" Fells cottage is small but full of amenities and spotlessly clean. A great location. Plenty of useful information about cottage, lighting Esse range and locality. Made booking with Booking.com - no key collection information from them but from Sykes Cottages who I didn't book with so they didn't have my email address. Only when I queried the possibility of moving dates did I get key information - on 12.12.18. Pertinent information about key collection could have been more prominent and not buried in a wordy email that included all details, Sykes app download and travel insurance. Didn't have any direct contact with the owner - only via Sykes. Owner kindly agreed to let me move dates (reason for stay was attending a wedding but one relative couldn't go due to having flu) but I decided to stick with my original booking as extra charges to move dates to January 2019 were excessive. Only ended up staying one night (spent other nights visiting ill relative). Arrived around 5.30pm on 13.12.18 and cottage was very cold - storage heaters had expended their heat; thankfully the Esse range was easy to light with enough wood provided for a couple of hours but it did take a while to heat the space, after the doors to kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom were closed. I could have brought wood from home to keep the fire in longer had I known I would have to rely on lighting the stove. Choice of Failed to meet expectations - didn't book with Sykes so I had no expectations of their service "

" We thought that the listing for 4 people is a little misleading as the cottage is very small and doesn’t really have facility for 4 people (there are only 3 seats in the lounge and 3 proper seats around the dinning table). I would also suggest that there is very little storage for 4 people to put clothes in. We have used this cottage before prior to it being with Sykes and don’t think that some of the additions that the new owners have made add anything more. The range cooker in the lounge is too big and a gimmick, my own personal view is I don’t want two pages of instructions of how to light the thing and all the hassle of cleaning it out. There are a few minor niggles that need to be dealt with such as the shower door, and the low light fittings that are a bit of a hazard and the broken door tray in the fridge. The changes to the rear garden area are great, and this makes somewhere nice to sit outside there are new external doors, new wood floors and a dish washer. When booking we where aware that this cottage was fine for two people and that is what we found as there was only two of us staying for the week. The personal touches that the previous owners made such as a bottle of wine on arrival and a small message where gone, this might be something the new owners may look at as it makes you feel welcome and a valued customer and adds a nice personal touch. " This was our first holiday with our one year old, so there was some trepidation in uprooting everything to a cottage in the Dales for a week. As soon as we arrived, all those fears disappeared. This is a beautiful cottage, for which the internet does not do it justice. There is a signifcant amount of room, both upstairs and downstairs. The kitchen is a real pleasure, and has plenty of home comforts. Cleanliness is very good (though there did seem to be some flies about - no real issue). Dent itself is a lovely, quiet Dales town. it is wonderfully picturesque, with great walks from the centre of the village. There is a local shop, which sells pretty much all the essentials, and one nice pub (George & Dragon) and one not as nice (Sun Inn). "

"We were looking for a relaxed festive break away and that's what we got. Normally travelling to Cornwall, we were well able to negotiate the narrow lane adjacent to the house. But even if we hadn't, it would not have been difficult to park at the road junction and carry bags and provisions to the house. Then park the car in the car park at the bottom of the road with the parking tickets provided. Slept 5 adults and 1 adolescent comfortably for 5 nights. Wood burning stoves easy to use. Kitchen was an absolute surprise. Better than the one at home. If I could have I would have taken it away with me. The TV set up was a bit strange but, enjoying a puzzle, sorted that out. Local pubs nice with reasonable food. Highly recommend!"
