"This is our second stay in this property in two years. The location is fantastic giving solitude, relaxation and unrivalled views. Overall the barn conversion has been completed to as very high standard and the facilities such as the kitchen and bathrooms are modern and very well presented. However, small details have made this stay less pleasurable than our previous one. In particular, cleaning in some areas could be improved. There are large numbers of spider webs in the rafters of the living room and other areas which are full of dead flies. These were present in our last stay and do not appear to have been removed since last time and are now larger. (Other guests commented on this in the visitor book.) The living room, stairs and main bedroom had not been properly vacuumed before our arrival. There were lots of crumbs in the living room by the sofa, dead flies on the stairs and flies and dust/fluff on the carpet in the bedroom. (The visitor book confirmed that the house had been occupied not long before our arrival so the property had not been empty for an extended period.) Other bedrooms were cleaner than the main bedroom. We vacuumed these areas ourselves after arriving. This only took a few minutes, but this should not be something that guests should feel the need to have to do. Some light bulbs in the living area were either blown or missing and a couple of the lamps did not appear to be working. Also, there were no dishwasher tablets and very little washing up liquid. Whilst we appreciate that the owners are not responsible for providing all cleaning equipment, if a dishwasher is provided it is our experience in other rental properties that at least enough tablets are normally provided for a couple of days until a trip to the local supermarket can be made. Finally, there was a musty smell in the main bedroom which got worse when it rained. Water also dripped through the ceiling above the French doors during heavy rain. This is an exceptional property in a unique setting. A lot of care and thought has gone in to the conversion, with high standards of workmanship evident. Good information is provided by the owners, access is good and the local area has lots to offer. It is a real shame that what could be a memorable vacation rental has been slightly tarnished by details which, in the main, would not require a huge amount of time or money to rectify."

"! My atlas showed only one Troutbeck in its back index, so I naturally assumed the one near Ambleside was it, in the area near to the 2 attractions my daughters or grandchildren particularly wanted to visit - Beatrix Potter attractions and Grisedale Sculpture trails. In retrospect I'm so glad it WAS the hamlet of Troutbeck, far from the Madding Crowd , as it were, which I only realised a few days before the holiday began, when I read the travel instructions! My fault of course, but there are some of us still using road atlases to locate a suitable holiday spot , not au fait with the gadgets most can use these days!My husband normally saw to fixing up holidays but sadly he died late last year. So, I want you to know we thoroughly enjoyed Gill Head farm with its peacocks, guinea fowl and RED squirrels as very special treats for us all, over and above the usual farm animals. The one problem we found - a window we could not close in the children's bedroom- was seen to immediately by the very pleasant owner as soon as it was reported. Very impressed."

"We received a lovely welcome and we knew we could always get the owners help if needed despite being a busy farm and campsite. The home was lovely, it had lots of character and rustic yet the facilities that make it a comfortable home. We loved being in the countryside, it was quiet yet not too far from nearby towns, markets and superstores. If you love to walk and be outside you are near some of the loveliest scenery and views in the Lake District. If you like farmyard animals you have them right on your doorstep. We loved being on a working farm and near to places of interest. We found the kitchen to be quite small and it was a bit inconvenient to have to use the paid for laundry facilities for the campsite rather than having facilities in the home. This however would not put us off staying again."

"Gill Head Farm in general, is absolutely amazing - a beautiful and well-maintained building. The cottage is situated on a farm with views to the open countryside. It was attractive and clean and very spacious for the 7 of us. The beds were comfy and there was plenty of hot water for everyone. There was plenty of room for all of us and we never felt that we were on top of each other. In the day we visited the nearby lake and then hiked around the area, both a 15 minute drive away. The grounds of Gill Head Farm are gorgeous. We cooked for ourselves every day and the cottage was large enough that we could all sit and eat together. The owner was very welcoming and was a great host, we hope to return in the near future."

"We loved the size of the house. It's slightly smaller than ours but it was just for a week. It was perfectly situated near the amenities without being in the hustle and bustle of everything and the neighbours were lovely too. One small thing I would mention would be that, had there been a note on the kitchen side telling us what day we should put the bin out, we would have done this. Another small thing was the back garden not being completely secure. My dog is a retired working dog as I was a Dog Handler, so she would never try to escape but that's not the case with everyone's dog and, being situated on a main road, this could be a problem."
