"Loved the peacefulness and ruralness of Maison Massignac. We spent a week there and often enjoyed just staying in and enjoying the location, lovely local foods from the supermarket, and pretty garden with shaded outdoor seating rather than venturing out. The house is extremely well equipped and comfortable, with excellent cookery utensils, pans etc and lots of mugs, crockery and serving dishes of every kind. We also loved having chilled water and ice from the large American fridge in the pantry. It really was one of the best equipped cottages we have stayed at!Whiling away the evenings in the huge comfortable sofas in the living room after a day out in the garden was very relaxing. Sadly it was not cold enough to light the wood burner, but there is plenty of wood....WiFi was spotty upstairs in the main bedroom due to the huge internal walls and the location of the modem downstairs, but not a game changer. Also the thick walls mean no phone signal inside the house, unless you leave your phone on a windowsill and are happy to go outside to take and make phone calls.Nearby Massignac town offers simple grocery shopping facilities, with a few large supermarkets within a 15-20min drive. We particularly likes the Leclerc store in St Junien. We would definitely return here if in the area again. From a personal perspective, whilst the main bed was very comfortable it is a 4’6 bed and we found it a little cramped as we have a superking 6ft bed at home, but that really is personal choice, as the mattress was extremely comfortable. Thanks to the owners for making us so welcome, and following up so quickly on our queries."

"We had a fantastic time! The area was lovely (although a bit lacking - i.e. post office was shut and didn't open when it was supposed to), the house was amazing and had everything you needed for a lovely, family holiday. I've actually never stayed in a house so well-equipped and clean before. There was wi-fi that worked, a TV, lots of suggestions for things to do (we did them all!) and the pool was gorgeous. The owner has a pool-boy go in and look after that so we could use it for the whole fortnight without worry. The house was stunning - really felt like I was living the high-life for a couple of weeks - my 11 year old has just reminded me that none of us wanted to leave! The owner was really helpful and friendly - just couldn't fault anything. Lots to do in the surrounding towns and cities (Confolens & Poitiers for example - and some really nice walks close by as well as a weekly music night at a beach just down the road. Lots of wildlife, some lovely night views of the stars (we saw Perseid showers in all their glory whilst there) and the Maison du Terroir in Queaux is a lovely little place to have a cold beer on the balcony. The canoeing in Moussac is a MUST - we did the shortest route (5km) it cost 44 euros for 3 adults and a child (you have to be able to swim (nager) 50 metres) and had the most fun ever! You get wet and stuck on rocks - it's hilarious and the youngsters who were running it were really friendly and really helpful.Weather was hot, hot, hot - it was 37 degrees whilst we were there - so we learnt to stay in during the hottest part of the day and venture out later."

"Just returned from our first holiday in France. We have fallen in love with the country and especially the people who where always helpful and accommodating wherever we went, from the Charante to Paris and Normandy. We packed a lot into our 16 days and on reflexion the most tranquil and relaxing time was in our accommodation at Chateau Cypres. We arrived very late after underestimating the drive from Paris but were met with a smile. The chalet (no.7) was just perfect for us and we really liked the decor and the overall setting of the gardens, the pool was perfect and we made great use of it for two very hot days when we took a break from our touring around the Charante, we took in La Rochelle, Cognac, Saintes and the Royan areas. We also met a very pleasant and helpful English girl, possibly Catherine's daughter, who gave us some tips on the local area and Marennes. The weather was fine and dry in the mid twenty degrees Celsius for most of our stay and was hot and 30 to 35 degrees Celsius for two days so overall no complaints, really enjoyed our experience and were sad to leave for our onward trip to Paris. Hopefully we will return to France and will definetely put Chateau Cypres top of our list. Thanks for everything, bon chance."

"The moment we arrived and were shown our little 2 bed gite we were delighted with our choice. 'The cute rustic cottage for our 2 week stay was a joy. The French ladies who deal with the cleaning etc were lovely, happy and friendly. Even though the weather was changeable for the first 10 days we had a great holiday in this beautiful area of France. There is so much to see and do. The grounds and the little gardens for each gite and the pool are lovely and excellent for children being very secure with gates and a high wall. I cannot recommend it highly enough and we were quite sad to leave. The family who own the chateau and gites are a lovely family and we were lucky enough to meet them."

"We did so love being in this property, recommended to us by friends who stayed there a couple of years ago. Child-friendly and quirky, full of interesting nooks and crannies and amazing old objects. Every day we discovered something new. The kitchen is properly equipped, though a tad tired-looking, and everything was spotlessly clean. We particularly loved the "museum" area and the library. The pool was clean and the grounds ideal for children to run around in. Sheltered parking would have been a plus, but we were grateful for off-raod secure parking anyway. Village shops pretty minimal and seemed to be constantly shut - but that is France !"
