"From the moment we arrived following the clear instructions, Jean welcomed us to the cottage. She even had a traditional cream tea and big pot of tea for us. The cottage is set in a very quiet peaceful location but is within easy driving distance of local amenities and the beautiful south Cornwall fishing villages. The cottage sits in a large sloping garden which the kids loved. An atmospheric old track leads to the top of the Sibleyback dam within a 15 minute walk. The inside of the cottage is characterful and well appointed. The bathroom and kitchen are modern and have all the utensils and mod cons that make a holiday easier for everyone. The beds deserve a special mention and with the comfort and peace and quiet I slept the best I have done on any holiday I can remember. Jean put out some cushions on the front seating area when we were out on our first day and watching the local bats and listening for the owls in the quiet surroundings was joyful. The cottage is lively, the surroundings so peaceful and Jean is the perfect host being there if she is needed but not intrusive. It really felt like we were staying with an old friend. We will definitely return."

"Beautiful calming location with fantastic views from the garden. The host I met upon arrival was very welcoming and kind, we caught her just as she was putting the lights on for our arrival. The cottage had already been heated for us and home made cream teas with a lovely bottle of Cava in ice was waiting for us.The hot tub was very comfortable but not ideal if you want to be next to you're other half due to the positioning of the seats (top to tail lay out) but the lights around the tub where very nice along with the inbuilt light under the water. If you're a fan of memory foam then the bed provided upstairs is for you! I however am not a fan and found it uncomfortable but the bed was lovely and spacious with nice decor and my partner found it comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with essentials which made everything so relaxing with easy to use cooking appliances. Overall the cottage had a very calm, happy and quiet environment which looks absolutely fantastic inside and out. The only thing I'd change is the lack of privacy on the loo due to the fogged glass window on the door. BUT I can see how this could be beneficial to some."

"We wanted peace and we certainly got it, the cottage was very very clean, the towels and bathrobes were fluffy and white and the top quality cotton sheets on the amazing bed felt like silk. It was furnished beautifully and the little touches such as single or double roses dotted around the cottage was wonderful. The bedroom was gorgeous and the gold bath in the bedroom was big enough for two. Everything we needed was there for our use. The owners of the cottage were close by and responded very quickly to any requests from us, a great place for walking and there are bikes available to use. The hot tub was fantastic and the cold weather was not a deterrent to using it nor was the misty rain we had one day, the temperature of the hot tub kept us very warm and the star gazing was particularly spectacular one clear night. The Donkeys were gorgeous and very quiet, we didn't realise they were there until we read the guest book. The owners definitely present their cottages how they would like to find them if they were guests. Well done to you all."

"Despite poor weather, all four generations of our family had a super week at Ratherton House. Ant looks after the grounds superbly and after a storm on our first day came back to clean the pool again and clear the tennis court of twigs and leaves which we really appreciated. Some of us took road bikes and the house is a great base for the quiet lanes around Holsworthy and down to the sea. The toddlers enjoyed the swings and slides in the play area, the great grandparents enjoyed the conservatory and we all enjoyed the pool, tennis court, grounds and the fields around the house. The kitchen is well equipped so we ate in for the whole week - we aren’t used to cooking with an aga so it was good fun to experiment while it rained outside!Overall a good base for a week and only 20 minutes to the coast for the beaches of Bude, Widemouth and Sandymouth Bay which has a free car park for National Trust members. We would definitely go back if we return to North Devon - just hope that the weather is a little kinder next time!"

"I normally do not complain about many things at all. In this instance I shall make an exception however. We arrived at the cottage to find that the log fire was still full of ashes from the previous letting, the log basket was full of waste including and empty bag of coal. The paving on the way into the main entrance is lose and makes an awful racket as you cross into and out of the property. As you go into the cottage the floor tiles are loose and insecure, i lifted one out.The cooker was dirty and & my wife had to clean it before we could use it.The garden was beautiful and very well looked after, it was very secure and our dogs could roam freely and with no worry. The location is ideal right on the edge of Bodmin Moor, you are ideally placed to be within a short distance of many of Cornwall's amazing attractions. It is a real shame that the cottage is not looked after the same way as the garden because it has the potential to be a very nice letting but needs a lot more TLC.Pete"
