"Sykescottages.co.uk/cottage/Mid-Wales-Cardigan-Bay-Devils-BridgePontarfynach/The-Farmhouse-973362.html First the bad : The listing is inaccurate, the pictures associated with the farmhouse are incorrect, with pictures 9-11 being for a different property. The description of the layout of the rooms is also incorrect, with one room on the ground floor and the remaining rooms actually being located upstairs. The bed which we had sleeping downstairs was 2 singles together which were quite uncomfortable and at slightly different levels to each other, reports from others were that their beds were comfortable. The kitchen could do with cooking utensils to cater for large groups of people as there is only a couple of plans available, luckily we brought pans and baking trays of our own, otherwise we would have struggled to cater for our group. There is no pool room in the farmhouse at indicated by the pictures, this is in a different complex of buildings which accommodates 38 people. As there were a large number of guests staying in the other building it was very awkward to use the hot tub as it was already full of strangers and a mentioned in other reviews there is no lighting in the hot tub area or between the hot tub and the farmhouse. We stayed from Friday for 3 nights, on the Sunday at around 11am the water stopped working so half our group were unable to shower or flush the toilets and this wasn't fixed once we returned later in the afternoon for lunch, before midday of us actually left the property to head home around 3pm. The good: The farmhouse itself is an amazing accommodation, the living room with the fire is a great place to host large groups and it's really comfy and warm. The fire was laid before we arrived and was easy to start ourselves the next day as well. The bedrooms are all as shown, the kitchen is amazing with 2 large cookers, 4 ring burners and 4 induction rings as well as a large fridge. The overall finish of the property is to a very high standard. There is also a piano in the farmhouse which had we known we would have brought music for! The staff at reception were also great and couldn't help us enough during our stay. The area is beautiful and Devils Bridge has a fantastic trail to see the waterfalls (if a bit treacherous and steep). Price wise the property was fantastic value for money. Overall we were happy with the stay as the communal areas in the property were perfect and the price for a group of our size, was unbeatable. We were however disappointed by the location of the jacuzzi, the lack of access to the games room and the fact that we didn't know we would have to share these features with a heap of other people. The issue with the water was also highly inconvenient. I hope this helps the owners and future guests.Lovely cottage, very clean and well maintained. Staff onsite very helpful.Everything was as listed. There would be a couple of improvements which would be around the hot tub area it would be great if there are lights but very difficult to get to it in the pitch black as it is not directly outside the lodge.Absolutely stunning scenery and great location - close to the Hafod Estate for great walking, the Devil's Bridge waterfalls and Nany-yr-Arian to see the Red Kite feeding. Vale of Rheidol railway is close by and the Hafod Hotel is excellent for food."

"Absolutely brilliant - a hidden gem! The house is set literally in the middle of nowhere with all windows outwardly facing onto beautiful Welsh hills and valleys. The house is within a few minutes drive of the beautiful village of Llanidloes with shops, cafes and restaurants. The house itself is fantastic, with a wood burner in the lounge, very posh and beautiful layout, plenty of space, 3 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms, a separate side lounge in addition to the main lounge, a utility room, and a large kitchen diner with a large circular dining table. The owner, Mr Jones, is one of the nicest gentlemen we have met whilst booking holidays like this. The photos do not do the house justice and if you want a family break where you will literally be thrown into the beautiful Welsh countryside then this is it. You will have access to WIFI and easy driving distance to many towns also. We wanted to take our children to a place where they could get off their ipads and enjoy the surroundings - this house helped us to do this. Bravo!"

"Its a difficult one to explain, we had a wonderful restful weekend there. If you like the idea of being in a secluded place (as we did) then it is wonderful place to go. I would rather be honest and suggest if you are looking at location as local amenities and activities, then there may be other parts of mid wales more suitable as it does feel "cut-off"....but as said this is what we wanted and were very happy about it. Although it is only about 15-20 minutes drive into the town. The accommodation was spotless, some lovely personal touches from the owner (bottle of wine and savoury snacks on arrival). Facilities inside the lodge were fantastic, bed very comfortable and genuinely didn't have anything to grumble about."

"Loved the property, one of the best we have stayed at. Didn't use the external facilities so can't comment on them, lovely friendly owners. Loved the walks up the mountains pass the ponds full of fish, very relaxing lodge but not as secluded as we thought but lovely, quiet and relaxing, Everything you could need was provided, was super clean, and very comfy, felt like we were home. Loved the gas cooker as all the others we stayed at are electric so extra points for that. Loved the way the lodge was set out and well made. Would love to be able to buy it lol Loved the squirrels, and the birds were so friendly you could stroke them. Would definitely recommend to others and will go back for a longer stay. 10 out of 10. "

"The lodge and scenery is beautiful. Fully fitted kitchen with everything you need. The inside sauna was an added bonus along with the amazing hot tub. Lodge was perfect and clean with tv in front room and bedroom with wifi. Surrounding scenery and location is gorgeous. The mrs loved every minute..The 2 negatives from the lodge were the amount of rules (lists) although we knew about the 30mins ruiling use of the hot tub, we signed a disclaimer stating we understood the risks of over use etc. Though felt rushed every time we used the hot tub. As from other reviews they were told to exit the hot tub by the owner??The second problem was the bed, very soft and uncomfortable. Mattress definetly needs replacing."
