"La Cala is an extremely spacious cottage with a lovely open-plan layout downstairs and ample, flexible sleeping space on the ground and first floors. The location is excellent - close to the Brecons, good hiking country, a superb whisky distillery and the Brecon Mountain Railway. The WIFI was good throughout the property and the second sitting room with a little desk area was a welcome addition, allowing some guests to retreat to a quiet area while others cooked or watched TV. The cottage is let down by one or two aspects. Although it has two bathrooms plus an additional separate toilet, there is no separate shower (only handheld showers in the two baths). The dishwasher (essential in a cottage accommodating ten people) was rendered nearly unusable due to a broken lower basket. Some of the beds were extremely comfy while others were much less so. The lack of any welcome basket was also a bit disappointing - most holiday cottages at least provide milk and bread. These few niggles did not prevent our group of eight friends having a lovely weekend in this stunning part of Wales and on the whole the cottage was well equipped and comfortable."

"3 of the dining chairs that were present, were broken! Poor kitchen equipment - eg a very small 2 x slice toaster, for 8 adults! Only one medium sized kettle. The light bulb above the cooker had blown, making life difficult. Generally, the lighting in the place needs attention - probably one third of the light bulbs had blown/didn't work.. Woefully inadequately sized fridge, and it had broken/missing shelves inside it. We had to ask for a quilt to be supplied for one of the beds, and also 3 extra towels were required. An accumulation of dust under the beds, etc. The venetian blinds throughout the house looked like they had not been cleaned in years. There was no bath mat in the en suite bathroom. Garden poorly maintained, the garden furniture well past their useful working life, and the decking around the back was rotting in places. This was advertised as a 'luxury cottage', and it probably was 10 years ago. It is no longer."

"It would be a lovely holiday home in the summer and we felt very welcomed by the owner but it was very cold inside the house. The radiators and hot water ran off the log burner which meant you had to light it and check it every 30 minutes. Even when it was blasting it still did not heat the front room to a cosey temperature. We then had to use the plug in electric heaters which would of been fine but we had to pay for the electric as we used it putting pound coins in the metre which cost a good £6+ a day. If the electric was included I would return but unfortunately it lead to a holiday constantly worrying about whether we had change and how we was going to heat the home. Not the luxury cottage stay I was hoping for unfortunately."

"We had a great time and really enjoyed our break. Can't wait to visit again. The Crown cottage was fantastic, well equipped and very clean. Especially liked the quaint garden, which is a nice place to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. The cottage is perfectly located, and the short walk to Crickhowell, past the church and over the river was a real little pleasure. We were so pleased to find such a wonderful place, to holiday with our young daughter and dog. We have fond memories of walks up Table Mountain and Pen-Y-Fen, and have recommended to many of our friends and family. We certainly will book with Brecon Holiday cottages again. Thanks to the owners, Brecon Holiday Cottages, and the lovely weather!"

" Open-plan kitchen / dining / sitting area made for very sociable evenings and was a great space to relax in. Plenty of sleeping options for us as a group of six single friends, and we ended up with the luxury of having a bedroom each, with the smaller lounge having a sofa bed. Pleasant sunny garden in which we enjoyed our morning cuppas, and evening drinks, although the decking does need some attention. We found the lack of a shower a bit frustrating as it took a long time in the evenings for all six of us to get bathed and ready to sit down to eat, it also felt like an awful waste of water to take a bath every evening.
