"Unfortunately the lodge smelt damp when we arrived and on returning in the evenings. There were also fly traps on most Windows which was not very nice so see on our arrival. Overall we made the most of it and enjoyed the peace and quiet it provided us. Lovely to sit out with a glass of wine. Parking is excellent. Easy access to lots of interesting areas. Guide leaflets were a great help. Local garden centre cafe was a treat, great afternoon tea. The oven knobs have no numbers on the dials so Its all guess work and the grill didn't work, which was shame. The views were amazing, log fire so warming and cosy on an evening and it helped us thoroughly enjoy our time there. Bed comfortable and we slept well. Cosy quilt so warm. Bathroom heated towel rail a nice touch. Lovely to talk instead of googling, but the Internet was great when we needed it. Some amazing walks around and about and for those who like running, I used the private road from the cottage to the main road to do my 3 miles. No pegs to hang out washing. Some small minor touches that would help. A refurb and charging extra next year would be an idea, as worth it."

"Very comfortable, generally well equipped cottage. No ice tray (which seemed odd), and there were dvds provided but no means of playing them. There was an xbox which, after phoning the admin office, we discovered had the ability to play dvds, but only if you download an app onto the xbox. You needed a login to do this, which obviously we don't have. It would be much simpler to spend £25 on a small dvd player for guests to use.Maybe we've just been spoiled by other cottages we've rented, but it would have been nice to have a little welcome pack on arrival, even just with a couple of tea bags and coffee sachets. There was no salt and the liquid soap in the bathroom ran out on the third day. These little touches can make all the difference. Having said all that, we would rent the cottage again as we had a lovely time there. (My daughter wants me to mention how comfortable the beds are too!)"

"We spent a long weekend at Gill Cottage in February and it was fabulous. The cottage was immaculate, fully equipped and very comfortable. The owners were very friendly and very respectful of our privacy at the same time. You can go for a walk straight out of the back door across fields, giving you a great view of the surrounding area and fells in the distance. We saw the steam train travelling from Carlisle to Settle from the lounge window, which is just one of the many lovely moments we shared as a family. The hot tub was excellent, useable at all times of the day and the great thing is that you see it being checked every morning, so there is no worry about it not being looked after.Crosby Garrett is a rural village, so you should expect that you need to go to a bigger town in order to find shopping. Bigger towns are a 20 minute drive away."

"Galena is a real get-away-from-it-all gem, deep within the English Lake District close to the village of Glenridding. It has an elevated position, with Ullswater in sight from the livingroom window. The cottage was cosy and warm (we were there January) and had everything we needed. The location was very quiet. All the places you are most likely to visit (Keswick, Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside, Consiton) are within short driving distance of the cottage. The only fly-in-the-ointment was perhaps not being allowed to stay on 2 extra hours on departure day (until 12pm). This was apparently to accommodate the cleaner rather than the guests! A bit disappointing given that it was low season and there didn't appear to be anyone coming in behind us. That said, we would return as it was a delightful cottage and not much to fault with it in the main."

"Excellent cottage and I will have no hesitation going back to Corner Cottage, hence my top marks. Great Strickland is very convenient for touring the area, being close to the A6 and eastwards towards Appleby. Get good local maps, such as Ordnance Survey maps, for exploring the area and avoiding Penrith which can be a bottleneck. We ate three evenings at The Strickland Arms, which speaks for itself and is recommended. There is no shop in the village, hence my mark for local amenities, but we stocked up at Morrisons in Penrith and the Co-op in Shap so it was not a problem. All in all a most enjoyable holiday in a first class cottage and I look forward to a return visit."
