"What a beautiful cottage in a great location, close to all the action of Kendal with great access to lovely walks. We had our two dogs with us & chose the cottage because it is close to a park & dog walk at Sepentine woodland. We didn’t find the double bed very comfortable, the mattress was super soft & we both woke up aching each morning. The sofa & chairs in the lounge are also quite uncomfortable but we also accept we did quite a lot of sitting & everyone’s mattress needs will be different! We would have liked to have had eco friendly cleaning products to use. It was very clean & the kitchen had everything we needed for our weeks stay. At times the traffic was very noisy, there’s no double glazing so we were woken by the bin lorry & delivery vehicals on a couple of occasions. The parking is very congested & due to permits there is no parking outside the front of the cottage. Aside from our negative comments we really did have a lovely stay, the cottage is in a great location to access Kendal & we would recommend it."

"We had a very comfortable and pleasant stay at Smithy House. The cottage has a cosy yet spacious feel to it, and has a very well-equipped kitchen with electric hob. If you are self catering, you will need to bring supplies, as there is no shop within easy walking distance - the closest is in Shap. If you intend to eat out, the local pub (only metres away) is very pleasant but is shut for portions of the year, e.g. The whole of January! There are delightful pubs in Askham and Shap however, under 20 mins drive away. There are many shelves of books, tonnes of Dvds, Netflix and Amazon Prime, and a handful of games, if you are staying in. There are also Ordinance Survey maps and Wainwright books pertaining to the local area. There are several beautiful walks straight from the door, and some lovely ones a short drive away, particularly around Haweswater. You are reasonably close to Penrith and Kendal, and Keswick is about 40 minutes drive away. This is a lovely place to stay in the Eden Valley!"

"We had a great holiday staying at Crescent Cottage. It’s in a good location and easy to get to the majority of the Lake District (the SW is a bit of a trek).Great local amenities (Shop; Pub Restaurants & even Ice Cream!) a short drive or nice walk away. The property is furnished well and is very cosy. Kitchen amenities are great and even rainy days are thought of with plenty of books and board games.Unfortunately we couldn’t submit this review without mentioning the double bed on which it is almost impossible to sleep due to it being excessively soft and even the slightest movement of your arm causing the bed to squeak so much so that we had to resort to sleeping in the single beds in the second bedroom by the end of the week. With such a well furnished property it’s amazing that this has been overlooked. If this issue is resolved this is a lovely property and we would certainly recommend as a place to stay for a holiday in the Lake District."

"The cabin is in a really nice position at the end of the road looking over fields. The cabin had everything you could need and the en-suite in the main bedroom was great as well as a full size bath. Plenty of games and books if needed although we were blessed with lovely weather. A nice outside terrace with table and chairs was great. The whole cabin was so roomy and had lots of little features that made the stay even better. Just the large open cupboard just inside the front door is perfect for coats and boots - the whole place is well thought out. Only possible issue for some is the cabin is located at the top of a short stone drive that is steep and the outside grassed area is also on a steep bank. This could be difficult with small children on adults with mobility issues. However - we loved it!"

"We know this area very well and we loved this house with its period features, enclosed backyard and attractive well-maintained gardens. The two staircases to access the bedrooms was very convenient but please note that the description of the house fails to mention that the bunk room opens directly onto steep stairs, a hazard for small children. We solved this by buying a stair gate (Argos in Kendal) but perhaps the owner could consider providing one. The surfaces in the house were clean but other things were not (blankets in wardrobe were grubby). There was no heating and hot water when we arrived despite the controls indicating otherwise; bit of a brain teaser until we realised the boiler thermostat was turned to zero! Better house instructions would have been useful."
