"Yew Trees is in an excellent location allowing you to walk into Winderemere and Bowness or enjoy country walks from the door. The property has a great layout with very comfortable settees and comfortable beds and an excellent on-suite shower room although I cannot say the same about the over bath shower. Thank you for the bottle of fizz which was so good I went and bought another bottle. During our stay there was a short power cut in the evening and when we went to look for the torch we found it was missing. Also found that the knives in the kitchen were so bad that they were almost dangerous to us when attempting to cut an onion. I noted in the visitors book that someone had mentioned this back in April. The equipment and layout of the kitchen was excellent but extractor fan could do with cleaning/replacing. I found that the front on the top left drawer on the chest of drawers in the twin room pulled off because it hadn't been glued on. I also noted that the light when entering the basement/Garage area was very poor at illuminating the room an as this is down a couple of steps I would suggest that it is replaced with a different bulb. On entering the property at the front door we noted that there were no coat hooks in the hallway but there were some useful seats available to sit and pull footwear on. This is a good property in an excellent location which could be made great with a few tweaks such as loosing the piano and replacing it with a bookcase or other useful piece of furniture. I would also consider turning the bathroom into another shower room but I realise some visitors particularly those the children may want a bath. The exterior of the property and grounds could do with some TLC which would also make it more attractive and safe to use. It may also encourage visitors to use the rear door into the basement/garage to bring in muddy/wet equipment where I noted there were door hooks and drying racks. On another note I would recommend the Prince of India in Winderemere if you are looking a takeaway."

"This is a very good property due to its location being in a private area midway between Windermere and Bowness making it easy to walk to either. The property is spacious with just the right amount of equipment and not a lot of clutter. However the property could be excellent with a few tweaks. The outside of the property has recently been painted and some of the paving re-grouted but there are still some lose pavers and the picnic bench needs refurbishment as it detracts from the exterior of the property. I found that rain water was spilling out over the gutter at the front door and this was due to debris at the bottom of the drain spout which was being held in place by the drain cover. Would suggest that the drain spout should be cut back 1/2 to 1 inch to allow the debris to wash out. Some shrubs at the rear are too close to the property causing the guttering to block and overflow and the subsequent waterfall being heard from the bedrooms which is unfortunate at night. The hallway is spacious with chairs and a table but could benefit from coat hooks on the wall to the right of the door instead of having to drape them over chairs. The bedrooms are very comfortable with plenty of storage space and loads of coat hangers. However the bedrooms are let down by poor curtains and curtain rails with end stops missing which means if you pull the curtains open too far they come off the track. The bathroom and on suite are excellent but both could benefit from having spare toilet roll holders to prevent space loo roll sitting on top of the toilet and possibly falling into the toilet. The fabric blind and light shade in the on suite have both become covered in mould. As there is an opaque window they could just remove the blind. The kitchen could do with a few hooks to put a towel and tea towel on."

"Just back from a lovely week's stay in this delightful little cottage. It was comfortable and cosy, combining old world charm with all modern conveniences. Everything needed was provided and the table was set for tea on our arrival with tasty scones. The shaded outdoor seating area was a great advantage too during the recent hot weather. The owner is very friendly and helpful and responds quickly to any enquiries. The location is great, just a short walk from the town with its wide range of shops, cafe and pubs ( highly recommend the Turkish restaurant for its delicious food and friendly service, the great bakery you pass on the walk into town and the Trout Hotel for a drink in its lovely riverside garden). Cockermouth is an ideal base for a holiday in the Lake District as it is near both the coast and the lakes, but is not overrun with visitors in summer as some of the other towns are. We took trips to Carlisle, Penrith, Keswick, Whitehaven, Grasmere, Ambleside and Bowness - all within easy driving distance through lovely scenery. There is even a great bus service which links all the towns ( including a scenic open top bus ) if you don't want to drive. We enjoyed our holiday at Tanner's Cottage very much and will hopefully visit again"

"Very small, but, quaint cottage, with history and a lot of potential. We had a problem with an alarm going off, which I couldn't stop. We even had a neighbour at the door, asking if everything was ok. I phoned the owner on her mobile and landline, for advice on how to cancel the alarm, but, didn't get an answer. I left a message and I'm still waiting for a response. The alarm finally stopped of it's own accord. It's a mystery why it went off in the first place. Toaster didn't work. After dragging the wheely bin out on the Tuesday night, as per the instructions. The following morning, I discovered from another neighbour, that the day for bins being emptied, had been changed, to a Thursday. Quite frustrating! As I had to drag the bin back up the overgrown path, then put it back out again, for the Thursday morning. Also, the garden requires a lot of TLC. The various written instructions, around the cottage, need to be updated and made clearer."

"This is without doubt the best accommodation I have stayed at in the Lake District by some distance as well. The accommodation was spotlessly clean warm and cosy, everything you could possibly need was catered for down to some very nice touches, such as some milk in the fridge and cleaning and washing facilities provided for.The area was beautiful, absolutely stunning scenery and only short walk away down to Wastwater lake itself. The location of the accommodation was within easy travelling distance should you want to travel further afield to explore different parts of the Lakes and beyond.Quite simply a wonderful relaxing and very enjoyable week in the Lakes made all the more pleasurable because of the quality of the accommodation, the weather was even good for the most part as well.I returned home very happy with my batteries full recharged.I will certainly book this accommodation again when I am on holidays in the Lake District."
