"This is a converted garage. As befits a garage it is at the bottom of the owners garden. Pierro, whilst very nice, would just stroll in to the garden when he wanted, even if my girls were sunbathing, we were eating or playing cards. La Chicca is too small for 4 people. In fact as Pierro showed us in he said that as the weather was nice we could live outside. (Watch out for mosquitos). The sofa bed took up all of the living space. The children had to store their suitcases under the table so we could have a walkway to the kitchen. The kitchen is interesting, the cupboards are high- almost beyond reach. I’m 5’5’’. The microwave is so high that the plug cable is not long enough to reach the plug.Pillows were lumpy and there is no access to a washing machine.Outside- We were told we could not heat the hot tub as it ‘used 1 kilowatt and cost too much.’ The garden furniture in the photos was not actually there but much cheaper furniture of which some was broken. The pool was a stand alone structure where the sides are kept rigid by the volume of water. No pump to clean it therefore it was quite dirty.La Chicca is in the mountains so certainly not 500m from the beach as advertised. Also the owners told us to pay €109 cash to them for cleaning, something that was not advertised. This was refunded to me. Rules also included not being allowed to play a radio or make noise in case we disturbed the owners- yes it’s written in the welcome pack. The entrance to the property is a good walk from the public car park down a rubble dirt road and the wooden garden gate does not identify that this is La Chicca so it took us forever to find the place. One night we returned late to find a family of wild boar at the entrance to the dirt track. Luckily they weren’t interested in us.La Chicca is NOT a few steps away from the centre of Montemarcello! There is a nice evening restaurant within walking distance but that’s it. Italy is beautiful and has so much to offer- stay elsewhere though."

"I booked this accommodation based almost entirely on the photos provided. They are quite misleading and give the impression that the place is larger than it is. About a week before our holiday I noticed a one star review which worried me so I was expecting the worst. In order to redress the balance I will give an honest but measured review of this accommodation. Firstly, the road that the house is on is indeed a bumpy track but definitely passable and we drove up and down every day during our stay. We did see a wild boar on our final evening which was fun for us all and quite a treat. Secondly, the pool is very small and I feel that this has been fudged slightly on the description with no picture present and nothing really to explain that it’s a stand alone upright pool. It’s a bit galling when you know the main house the other side of the gate has a stunning pool - it might be better to stare that instead. The jacuzzi pool is cold but in 32 degrees of heat it’s perfect. The outside furniture was broken when we arrived but the owner fixed it so it was usable. The outside space was acceptable but not how it appears in the photos. The accommodation was quite well appointed but definitely not big enough for 4 people. The main bedroom has next to no storage and the only way we could function as a family of four was to put the dining table and chairs outside. The kitchen was poorly equipped - no tin opener, no chopping board - loads of plates though! Beds were extremely comfortable. Montemarcello is an absolute gem of a place which we fell in love with and the owner could have given us some more information about it when we arrived as we were under the impression that there was nothing more than a pizzeria but there’s so much more! If you want to stay in this village and you’re a couple then this place is ok but if you’re a family of four maybe check out the owners other properties with the gorgeous pool."

"This wonderful sensitively converted Trulli house was just right for our three generation family gathering of 11 people. The owners and local contact were all very helpful and did all they could to make our stay very comfortable. San Marco is ideally situated for pretty Locorotondo, the beaches north and south of nearby Fasano, the beautiful towns of Martina Franca, Ostuni and Lecce and of course the UNESCO heritage site of Alberobello. We enjoyed walking through the adjoining cherry orchards, meeting the friendly farmers and of course lazing by the pool in peace and tranquility. The village shop is exceptionally well stocked and the owner is friendly and helpful. The outside pizza oven was easy to use and the children loved the results which were followed by watching the stunning sunsets from the roof terrace. We couldn't recommend it highly enough and are already planning a return visit."

"I know that I speak for all my family when I thank you, and all your staff, for making our stay at Villa Gaiole so enjoyable. This was a special occasion for us, as you may already know, as my wife and I were celebrating our golden wedding anniversary. Apart from the small inconvenience of the 'leaking shower' everything went very well and Laura was always there to help. We cannot speak too highly of her efficiency and diligence - the cakes were nice too!! We all made it home eventually yesterday, nursing our bites (the only blot on an otherwise perfect holiday) after horse fly attacks at the pool. The weather was awful (thunderstorms) from Luton for us travelling up to Worcester and we didn't get home until after 5pm. A long day but Kate and Daniel et al were home in London much before us so they had a much easier journey."

"We came as a family of 16 for our 50th anniversary. The house swallowed us up nicely, and 9 bathrooms were welcome. There is plenty of room to roam, and the children loved the grounds and the pool. It's also very central to visit Tuscany sights - Florence, Siena, San Gimignano etc. Paola, the owner, took very good care of us. She stocked the fridge and kitchen with enough necessities for several days, for a small fee. She also cooked a wonderful meal for us as part of the concierge service (extra, of course). Second course - best lasagna ever! We also benefited from several gifts from her garden. The house has quirks, as one would expect from a 1000 year old home, but it really grew on us, and we would return if we could."
