"I had the briefest of conversations with the owner on the phone before we went and was just told that the cottage would be open and the keys would be on the table. That was it. No instruction book re. the various facilities e.g. heating system - we only discovered on the last day that the place had underfloor heating! We had no idea. This didn't matter as the electric panel heaters were very efficient and it wasn't a cold week. But some instructions on this would have helped. I presume that the 'owner' is the chap who owned/worked at the hairdressing salon opposite but he didn't make that clear at the beginning of the week. He was the one who, much later in the week, by chance met us, asked if everything was OK and told us incidentally about the underfloor heating! It's just an issue of a little bit more printed information is needed along with meeting and greeting guests. The place itself was great - 100% clean, well-equipped, quiet, convenient, warm, good kitchen facilities etc. so no complaints at all on that score. Excellent television with Sky if you should want that. We also had access to a garage where we could safely store our bikes. The double bed was a bit 'soft' for my liking. Maybe a new mattress should be considered. Other than would recommend both Sykes Cottages generally and this cottage in particular. A fascinating area, full of history. Some simply beautiful scenery juxtaposed with some post-industrial ugliness! We had an excellent week. Thank you."

"We booked as a last minute get away for New year and looked at the place and location and thought it would be fab for us, our little girl and the dog! Looking at the pictures we didn't think we would be able to take our pooch as it looked too nice, I had to double check! But you can and it is so nice being able to be somewhere nice, clean and of a high standard with a dog! It's also nice walking in and not realising dogs are allowed here! (Fresh, clean). The cottage itself is lovely, cosy and very well equipped! We walked in to a Christmas tree :) which our little girl loved!- thank you. Yes it is on a main road, and the windows are single glazed at the front as the owners have kept the original features which I think is a good thing but is a little noisy. I struggle to sleep so always have earplugs with me but my little girl and husband slept fine and the back of the house is super quiet! The dog stayed in the kitchen and didn't mutter once, and she can be quite protective if she hears anything! The high street has everything you could need and there are a couple of pubs nearby! Overall a great weekend away! Would highly recommended and would return!"

"This is a small but very comfy cottage , very well equipped especially the lovely kitchen . We stayed over the Christmas break and I was able cook and serve dinner for 6 adults and 3 children . The owner are very welcomingg and left a bottle of prossecco, box of chocolates card and a decorated Christmas tree . They fixed an issue with central heating within 5 mins of a text on Christmas Eve! My grandchildren loved the attic bedroom as they could play up there away from the adults and two of them even stayed overnight up there .even though they lived 10 minutes away . It’s on the main. road through the village and parking is on road opposite or on public car park 2 minutes away neither of which was a problem . It’s in a very lovely area with beaches at Saltburn , Redcar and Maske less than 5 miles away . Whitby half an hour away by car ,there is a reasonable bus service tor them all . Can walk a 3 mile walk through the woods to Saltburn on the cleveland Way from the door North Yorkshire Moors is half a hour away. . It’s so comfy we are going again in July"

"It was a delight to stay at Swallow Cottage. On arrival, we were made to feel very welcome and found the cottage to be well furnished and extremely comfortable. The surrounding area is ideal for walking and the garden perfect for total relaxation. Our grandchildren especially enjoyed all of the toys, games, swings and particularly the sand pit. Swallow cottage is the perfect location for all age groups and is all on a ground floor level so easily accessible for anyone with limited mobility."
