"Wonderful view of Grasmere and ideally located for walks to Rydal and over into Langdale. Really an apartment rather than a cottage as the property is an integral part of Huntingstile House. Lovely gardens, patios and a charming entrance. Very secluded. Inside, the kitchen has everything you would expect, but some of the cabinet doors are very worn and cracked. The lounge is excellent and very cosy with real style and quality. The double bedroom is up a very narrow and steep staircase and the en suite loo is in a very small space. The twin room beyond the bathroom is in need of redecoration and the water pump noise intrudes all night every few seconds. The main bath and basin taps are in need of renewal and the tile grouting is very old. Also, behind the net curtain, the inside of the window frame was black with mildew. However, the whole property was really warm and comfortable. We were surprised, though, that there was no welcome pack, not even a pint of milk. There were some tea bags and an empty coffee jar ! The whole ambience of the property was stunning, thanks to its architecture and location but for the sake of some inexpensive updates, a few cleaning oversights and £10 worth of milk, tea, coffee and even gingerbread, it could be outstanding.I would definitely book this again"

"This was our first time in the Lake district, and won't be our last. As everyone says the area is beautiful, even those views from the doorsteps of this very comfy cottage, right on the village green, and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. With a place for the car (which was very close if not adjacent!) it was just a question of getting the Lakes Bus pass for a week and get to see the views, visit the towns and places with no hassle with parking. We were really spoilt with the weather, in shirt sleeves most of the time, and what better way to end the week than with a Farmers Market on the Friday before leaving (stocked up with fresh meats fish and sampled the Caribean dishes) and right on the doorstep!! Apparently it was a Grassmere first - so thanks to the organiser and we really do hope it becomes a monthly event."

"Beck Steps 2 has an ideal location, right in the heart of Grasmere, with beautiful views from the bedrooms. The bedrooms are a good size, and the beds comfortable. The lounge is also comfortable, though there are some dusty blankets which can cause problems for asthma sufferers. Dust is also noticeable in the bedrooms, probably due to having floorboards with gaps between them. The kitchen is adequately equipped, but the saucepans could do with replacement. The bathroom is downstairs, which might be a problem for some, though we did not find it so. There is a parking space just a few steps from the cottage door, which is another useful asset. All in all, a very nice cottage, though with the potential to be even nicer with a little bit of extra attention from the owners."

"We recommend this apartment. It is well designed and thoughtfully furnished with everything that you need, and it is surprisingly spacious with ample room for wet coats and boots. It would be particularly good for two couples or older children as the two bedrooms are very private. There was a designated parking space which was big enough for our large car and the location in the heart of the village meant that we didn’t need to use it during our short break. Although I have no idea what it would be like in the middle of the summer it was extremely quiet when we were there during term time in December. We would definitely use this apartment again if we return to Grasmere."
