"We had a fantastic week at Heron View cottage, 3 adults stayed and it was comfortable with enough space for us all (would be a bit tight for 5 adults). The village amenities were right on our doorstep, as was a lovely 3 mile walk around Grasmere Lake. It's easy to get to all the local attractions. The local bus service runs frequently if needed. We enjoyed a couple of walks with the Lake District park rangers (highly recommended). We also visited Glen Riding - ferry to Aira Falls and walked the lake back, went to Bowness and took the ferry to Ferry House and then walked to Beatrix Potter's house, walked around Rydal and Grasmere areas, visited the cinema at Ambleside (with meal deal at Zeferelli's). All restaurants and pubs we went to were great, in Grasmere we particularly liked the relaxed Goody Blakes. Curators at all the historic sites were friendly and informative. The cottage had mostly all we could ask for. In terms of improvements I would recommend adding fans to the bedrooms (it's too hot at present) and sheets for the beds, we ended up sleeping under the duvet covers and even this was a bit too warm. Nice basic touches would be to supply some black bin liners and basic condiments, herbs and spices in the kitchen. The TV reception is a bit hit and miss, husband ended up watching the World Cup Football in the pub (not that he complained)! There's no wifi, though you can pick up 3G, 4G and BTWifi if you have an account. The directions to the cottage need to be a bit more detailed at the final stage. However, none of that really mattered, we loved the Lake District and the cottage and hope to return one day."

"This is a balanced but we believe fair review. This is based on the latest of over 10 visits to Beech Ghyll. The property is in a quiet courtyard setting, but is just a [lovely] 10 minute walk into Grasmere village. Surrounded by fells, you can make numerous walls from the property. The open plan layout inside is practical/ very well set out. Recent new furniture additions has gone some way to refresh the interior and the decoration is clean and relaxing. Levels of comfort is high in the open plan area. The kitchen provides most basic needs, although there is room for improvement [the need for microwave dishes]. TV reception can be patchy and the Sky service is very limited. The two bedrooms are spacious. The mattresses are a little tired but are not uncomfortable and the bed linen is very clean. The twin bedroom has always had a slight smell of damp, although nothing is visible. The large bathroom is clean, but the hot tap needs attention. Overall, this is a very comfortable, well situated holiday home, which will please most. There are limited views from the lounge area, just visible is the ridge of Siver How fell and a view towards Easdale Valley. It’s one of the best we have found."

"The cottage was great as a base for what we wanted to do in the Lakes so we can't fault it really. The garden was nice, the morning view was absolutely stunning and the facilities were good. The location was perfect for us; very peaceful but not far from the main road so easy access to other places. We could walk down the road and straight up Helm Crag which was stunning and a nice walk into Grasmere along a quiet country road.We would highly recommend this place if you're just after a base to see the Lakes and not expecting luxury (why would you, it's the Lakes, get outside!).Recommendations:It was clear from the pictures that there was only a bath, but as we had two small children it would be nice to include a shower attachment; there was one there but it didn't fit properly as the rubber had gone off.Towels - for me it's not clear that they would not be included, for most properties now you highlight what isn't included rather than assume. However, when we asked for towels they met us at the office within 20 minutes despite being out of hours, and gave us a full set - so their customer service was unbelievably helpful!"

"Spacious bathroom and bedroom, ideal for a couple.Peaceful location yet only couple of minutes walk to nearest pub and village.Grasmere is a very picturesque village and easy access to other towns either by car or public transport. Our hosts, Attilio and Sharon were extremely welcoming and friendly and on hand for any assistance.Very nice people. Would definitely recommend this property. The cottage was in the perfect location, very well equipped and spotlessly clean. Sykes had incorrectly advertised the cottage with a washing machine and cot which was frustrating for us and the owners. The owners Attalid and Sharon were very welcoming and went out of their way to ensure our stay was as perfect as possible. They drove into Kendal on Friday night to buy a cot for our 1 year old daughter and even offered the use of their own washing facilities if required. First class service. Sykes, you should ensure your online search matches the cottage facilities. As I say, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Stonegarth Mews and would definitely return."

"Beech Ghyll is a very comfortable and well-equipped cottage. Its quiet situation just off the A591 makes it ideal for access to most of Lakeland. The village of Grasmere is just under a mile distant via very scenic field paths with wonderful views of the surrounding hills. Grasmere is well-provisioned with eating places and a Co-op which is open from 7.30 am until 9.00 pm during the season. However, during our stay two light bulbs blew one of which fused all the bedroom and bathroom lights. Fortunately one of our number had a fuse box similar to the one in the cottage and was able to rectify the situation. It would seem sensible for all holiday lets to be fitted with long-life bulbs which give, allegedly, 15 - 20 years service and would alleviate this problem. Also the reception of television channels, at times, is poor presumably due to the close proximity of the hills and little, I suspect could be done about this. The two problems above did not however spoil what was a wonderful holiday at Beech Ghyll."
