"We have just returned from a very enjoyable week at Le Grand Carre in the Dordogne with a group of 12. The property is fabulous - 3 separate buildings, each with a different style, set on 3 sides of a square with the pool at base. Two old French stone barns and a very modern barn style building. In the middle of the courtyard is a table where we all congregated to eat by candlelight at night. It is furnished to a high standard with an eclectic mix of old and very modern designer furniture. The property sits up a hill so the view of the pine forest and fields beyond is lovely. The gardens are very pretty and the smell of lavender wafts through the air and across the pool. The location is great - the countryside is beautiful, and the local villages and towns are very historic and picturesque. The old town of Perigueux is very attractive and the towns along the Dordogne River are also very historic. We spent a day canoeing down the river, which was great fun. Not a place for people looking for wild nightlife but perfect for us! During our stay, two charming "Guardians", Christine and Peter looked after us and made us very welcome, quickly helping to sort out any minor issues. They were very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. As I said, we had a party of 12 staying. The accommodation is large enough, but just be aware that the double bed in the modern building is only a 140cm sofa bed with a metal bar down the middle. It is also at the top of the building and there is no ventilation or aircon, so it can be hot in the middle of the summer, although it did cool down at night.. The bathroom is behind a curtain, without walls or a door. The people staying in that building have the short straw, as the other bedrooms are lovely and the beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms well equipped (with doors!). Several of our party said they slept much better here than at home. Future guests should also be aware of the 800 Euros damage deposit payable on arrival and the 350 Euros cleaning charge, payable in advance, which is very expensive. This was mentioned in the Ts&Cs, but I missed it when I booked and nobody brought my attention to it. The only other very minor comments are that the pillows are not very good and the kitchen equipment is lacking. Only 12 knives and forks for 12 people does not go very far and there are not enough bowls etc. Having said all that, we would absolutely recommend Le Grand Carre. We had a great stay and will certainly return to the region."

"Before our stay, we had exchanged various emails with Nick the owner who was more than willing to answer any queries we had prior to our arrival. Phillipe, the property manager, greeted us at the property as arranged, showed us around the beautiful house and its many, wonderful features and explained everything we needed to know for our stay. The property itself is truly first class. The pictures really do not do justice to the sheer size and space available for our family of 12. There are so many thoughtful features to accommodate all sorts of ages and interests from the games room for our teenagers to the vast collection of DVDs for our younger children when they needed a rest from the pool! All of the bedrooms are extremely spacious and comfortable with en-suites and bathrooms that easily accommodated our large party. The many different living areas were perfect for people to find their own quiet space, including a wonderful outside terrace with numerous seating, parasols and loungers. Details such as a filled 'beer fridge', which you were simply asked to re-fill like for like, was a super idea and enabled us to settle in and enjoy the property straight away. The area itself has so many things to offer. Our family, ranging from 10 to 71, spend a wonderful day canoeing along the Dordogne and we visited many attractions and local towns. We found a great pizzeria in Figeac and lovely restaurants in Gramat and Martel. There is also a fantastic pizzeria take-away just down the road from the house which provided us with a break from cooking on a couple of occasions! All in all, we had a wonderful stay and were very sorry to leave. The house is superb for a large party and we couldn't recommend it enough."

"Christine and I have just returned from our honeymoon and having digested our experience at the chateau last week we would like to provide you with our feedback. To avoid all the flattering getting lost in translation I am writing this in English. The headline and conclusion is that we are extremely happy and we both feel that we had a fairytale wedding that far exceeded our wildest dreams and expectations. We also get very consistent feedback from all our guests that the atmosphere you have been able to create is really unique and gave everyone a pleasant break from real life. My mum even refers to it as a Garden of Eden experience and several guests have also said that they will definitely come back on a later occasion. As you can imagine you got a lot of ambassadors from this wedding and I will encourage you to refer to us if any potential customers ask for reference. We will definitely convince them! And if you want to quote any of this in your marketing material you are of course more than welcome to. A heartfelt thank you from both of us for a fantastic wedding arrangement! We will definitely be back! Best regards."

"Dear friends and colleagues: I would not usually do this, however, Tim and I have fallen upon the most breathtaking French chateau in the Dordogne - I simply could not, not share it with you! It was so much more than we expected...! It is without question one of the most amazing places that either of us have had the fortune to stay. Jose and Diana could not have made us feel more welcome. They have lovingly restored their C16th chateau to glorious splendour and it feels more like a lavish home than a hotel (or a museum!). The chateau has 40 acres of forest to explore and the surrounding villages are exquisite. It is pretty much a 2.5 hour door to door trip (or at least for us) and there are regular flights from both Southampton & Standsted to Bergerac with a 40 minute drive to the Chateau. Jose is a fabulous chef and will cook up a feast of local produce at your request and Diana's breakfasts are simply gorgeous. (Gentlemen - if you are in the bad books this is most definitely the way out!) I guarantee you will love it"
