"I seldom review holiday accommodation, however I feel impelled to do so with Cromer House Barn for several reasons. I include both positive and negative points in my review. Overall, I feel Cromer House Barn is over-priced for what is offered and that the emphasis on comfort is somewhat overplayed, and I do not deem it to be 'romantic' as advertised in some locations online. For this price range, I expect more in terms of the decor, the quality of the fixtures and fittings, as well as a more effective heating system and the presence of a small welcome such as a pint of local milk or loaf of local bread. The wood burner is simply not enough to heat both the main room and the water during winter. I would also illustrate that I am happy to put on layers and heat my own home in an environmentally conscious way, but given the price and that I was on a much-needed break, a more effective or indeed efficient heating system should be present. I hold the view that being environmentally friendly need not compromise ones comfort, but at Cromer House Barn this is the case. At this price point, I would simply not recommend this accommodation to friends or family, as you will have a more comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable stay elsewhere. Positive points include that the property is less than an hours drive from Newcastle upon Tyne, there is a co-op supermarket within walking distance and a good local pub which serves a very good Sunday lunch. Up to two dogs are allowed in the accommodation and the owner can provide additional sheets or blankets for furniture. Furthermore, the owners of the property are knowledgeable about the local area."

"Lovely warm comfortable modern cottage, delightful hot tub and swimming pool. Could do with a little more kitchen equipment, ie teapot, chopping board serving dishes. Would be nice as well to have a little washing up liquid, a couple of tea bags, a little sugar, couple of coffee sachets and small carton of milk and a few logs to see you through the first night as nearest shop is a mile and half away. Log burner (which we didn't use because the cottage was lovely and warm) a bit of a worry when lit with no fire guard if you had small children with you - there is a warning notice not to light it if you have children with you. Lovely friendly collie pup good with people but not with other dogs. Apart from that a lovely spot with a magnificent view and we had an enjoyable time."

"Belle View is a lovely cottage and the hosts were very friendly and helpful, recommending lots of walks and places to visit. They even kindly brought us some lovely homemade fudge. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you would need and lots of information on the area is provided. The cottage is in a lovely quiet rural location with lovely walks from the doorstep we particularly enjoyed walks at Bollihope Burn. We visited the lovely waterfalls of Low Force and High Force along with a trip to Derwent Reservoir and Blanchland all recommended by the owners all within half an hours scenic drive. We took our two dogs who loved the walks in the area and having use of the large garden. We really enjoyed our week at Belle View and would love to return. Highly recommended."

"The owner was very welcoming but then left us to enjoy our stay (making it clear we could contact him if needed). The property itself was clean and there were some lovely touches such as a fabulous Christmas tree! My husband and I were staying at the cottage along with his Mum & Dad, and we were joined on Christmas day by 2 other adults and their baby. We had everything we needed for a pleasant stay and to cook dinner. The only slight issue was the fact the beds in both bedrooms were up against the wall, making it quite awkward to get in and out. Wouldn't stop us staying again, but something others may need to be aware of. Location is excellent - very close to local amenities but still feels like you're way out in the countryside!"

"Wonderful spacious home, the owners have completely refurbished the house and put a lot of thought into making it feel like a home from home. Exceptionally clean and so very comfortable which made it such a pleasurable to stay. We were lucky to have had good weather so got the best of every thing but I’m sure even on a wet miserable day the house is so nice that we would have still enjoyed our stay. A short walk to the village centre that has one of the best butchers and also a very good restaurant also meant we did not need to use the car too much. There are some wonderful walks on the doorstep with the Bowless visitor centre only 1hr 40min walk away following the river path."
