"The postitives: Puncknowle is a quiet, picturesque village set in beautiful Dorset countryside. The local pub, the Crown Inn has a friendly service with a great selection of ales and excellent food. The negatives: Juniper's Cottage, is quaint and quirky and has great potential but is in desperate need of some TLC and is dirty. When reading the cottage's guest book as far back as 2014, it is very disappointing to see that the lack of cleanliness has been reported every year since then and that problems with the cottage do not appear to have been remedied i.e. radiator in upstairs double bedroom did not work in 2015 and it still doesn't, two broken slats in downstairs bed reported last year are still broken, the shower becomes a trickle whenever the toilet is flushed or the washing machine is on. Like many guests who had also reported before us, upon arrival we had to clean the cutlery, crockery, glasses, cooking utensils and saucepans before using them at all. One shouldn't have to do a mini-spring clean upon arrival! Stained carpets, cobwebs hanging from every ceiling, grime at the bottom of the cutlery drawer, badly stained pillows and worse of all, suspected bedbug droppings on the mattress and mattress covers of two of the beds upstairs. No WIFI and you need to bring your own towels. Big cracks in plaster in lounge and there are signs of wood worm infestation on the stairway and in the bathroom. Overall, not impressed by the cottage at all."

"The cottage provides a very comfortable accommodation for couples and is well located to cover both east and west areas of Dorset. The location is quiet although it just a mile or so away from the A35 main road. Dorset provides a varied interest to visitors and most of these can be reached from the cottage in under the hour. The lounge, bedrooms and bathroom are very well presented and provide a welcome return after a day out. We cooked most of our evening meals and found plenty of utensils etc available to use. The absence of an average freezer means slightly more trips to the supermarket which are about 20 minutes away. The cottage had a small garden which, given the weather, is an excellent spot to relax down.Like in all households problems can suddenly present themselves. What is important is how these are dealt with. In our case an issue raised was very quickly resolved by the owner. The cottage is semi detached and there is no dedicated parking area hence parking is at the side of the roadway. Could become difficult for two cars.Overall the accommodation provides good value for money"

"Overall we enjoyed our holiday stay at Swiss Cottage. It is in a good location for walks down to the sea and coastal walks, which we enjoyed with our dog. The garden is good for people with children / dogs as it is enclosed. We loved the sun room overlooking the garden for chilling out after walks in the evening. The pub round the corner ( Clockhouse Inn ) serves good pub food and means you don't have to get the car out for an evening meal. There were a few small issues with cleanliness. The kitchen bin was very dirty when I removed the bin liner to empty it, and the last visitors cigarette nubs were still in the garden. Also a toy was under the sideboard in the dining room and the floor was not very clean in there. The front door lock was very stiff when entering with the key. The back door was also very stiff to lock from the inside. The settees in the living room were very 'sinking'. However the beds are very comfortable and all the linen very clean.Thank you."

"We had a lovely break. The cottage felt comfortable. Carpets are in need of replacing and the mattresses on the double bed and downstairs room were very thin but we still slept well. (Mind your head on stairs!) Kitchen was well equipped so no bother making a meal and they supplied some cleaning bits which was nice. The garden is small and pretty. We felt the cottage fitted the five of us well and felt homely. Very peaceful village - most passing traffic was on horseback! No local shop so stock up well beforehand or order a supermarket delivery. Takeaways don’t deliver out here. The local pub was welcoming, good food and the most gorgeous beer garden. The village does have a very well equipped playground for children which our three enjoyed each day. Plenty to keep all entertained. We enjoyed our time here and at the local beaches and the subtropical gardens. Best cream tea at Abbotsbury in the Old School House. A truly relaxing break."

"Whilst this cottage is spacious it was generally dirty, the dishwasher still had food in it, the saucepans and glasses had to be washed before we could use them and the whole place feels uncared for. The sun room was nice when we finally managed to unlock the door, but there were slugs on the wall and the windows were dirty, I wrote my name in the dirt. The shower doesn't drain away and floods after a while as does the outside kitchen drain. There was no visitors handbook with instructions and when we contacted the owner the answer was that a previous tenant had taken the book and a new one was being prepared! This is rated as a 4 star cottage which it definitely is not and the owner was less than helpful with our complaints so we left early very disappointed and feeling cheated and upset. All in all my advice is to avoid it because until it has been thoroughly cleaned and updated it is more like an expensive 1 or 2 star."
