" When we had a problem with the heating (radiators hot in July!) this was sorted very quickly – thank you. He also replaced lightbulbs which we had not noticed at that point were missing/blown – worryingly, when he replaced the light bulb in the single bedroom it kept blowing so he left it without a bulb – we were not using the room so not a big deal, but does this mean the electrics need attention too? Garden – nothing like the pictures on the website of a neat and tidy garden – it was overgrown and badly in need of weeding and the grass cutting Dustbin needed emptying – dirty nappy left beside the wheelie bin was disgusting and should have been removed during the changeover “clean”, presumably from previous occupant (equally disgusting!) Conservatory - dirty inside and out Kitchen – floor needs repairing and is a trip hazard. There was a jar of instant coffee and some fruit tea bags, as well as some out of date milk pods – if a welcome tray is going to be provided then let’s have some proper teabags and in-date milk! Master bedroom – children’s sock behind the ottoman + dirty cotton bud on top of the wardrobe demonstrates the very approach to change-over clean All the single mattresses need replacing, the slats underneath can be felt through the saggy soft mattresses – my 82 year old mother ended up sleeping on the sofa in the living room. "The cottage is better equipped than most, the furniture is solid, stable, comfortable and there is lots of it - plenty of storage and lots of bed space and extra blankets. If you wish to make a home cooked meal there are plenty of utensils, crockery and kitchenware. The kitchen is a little tight for space, and headroom and stair tread limited in places throughout-but it does add a certain charm and we have stayed more than once and would stay again. The bath area looks tired, but is functional. If this were to be redone, making use of the extra space to include a washing machine it would guarantee our repeat visits! As it is, not having a washing machine is a downside to what is otherwise a lovely family house. The rain during our stay meant we stayed home an entire day, and most mornings. The house did not feel cramped (although we took our own PS3 for the kids!) and had time to read some books and magazines and then watch some dvds. A good selection is provided, but it was far more tempting to stay in bed and look at Corfe Castle through the bedroom window; with a mug of tea and toast made with fresh bread from the local bakery. "We loved our time at Rose Cottage and really want to come again. The location is wonderful, views of the Castle from the bedroom and a quiet and beautiful street out at the front. It is ideal if you have a dog as there is easy access onto the Common for first thing in the morning and last thing at night walks. The only down side is the VERY steep stair to the upper bedroom which has the double bed in it. The information says that these are steep but until we saw them we didn't realise how steep, still it didn't stop us from using that room. The yard/garden is lovely, full of lovely scents and herbs. The kitchen is very well equipped. The shops are within a very short walk to collect morning papers and fresh baked bread etc from the bakery on the square. The well stocked and friendly village shop will deliver a box ready for your arrival, we didn't do this but might next time and is nice to know."

"The cottage was very clean and cosy, the kitchen had every appliance, the t.v/dvd was small and cables had to be changed. We had trouble with the heating, which we could not work and the little fire didn’t work,as the weather was appallingly wet and cold we could have done with heat and somewhere to hang our wet coats, etc. Parking was on the High Street, which didn’t cause us too much of a problem. The small courtyard was a misnomer as it had no space for the dogs to exercise, however the beach was only across the road and a small public garden nearby. Our holiday was cut short because of the weather, but given some sunshine it could have been a good place to stay as a base, particularly for lovers of water sports. The welcome package was very brilliant. June 2012. "

"The cottage was lovely and incredibly clean and all fittings etc were well maintained and fresh. The owner left a welcome pack of tea, coffee, biscuits, wine and milk and had also added sweet festive touches. The property was comfortable with a fab shower. I also brought my two dogs with me, and it’s always good when I can do that. Unlike some properties that allow dogs, this cottage was not at all doggy or dog smelly and furnishings, despite the visitors book referring to lots of doggy guests was not remotely doggy or hairy which was lovely. Well located for Portland and easy access to the Dorset coats. Dec 2007."
