"Our party of 19 (aged between 6 weeks and 70+) enjoyed a lovely family celebration here. The ground floor and outside area were spacious and well-suited our purpose. There were some minor issues with equipment - eg a badly leaking kettle, a broken shower, but these did not affect our enjoyment of the week. The important areas - toilets, showers etc, were clean but some of the living areas could do with a bit of care and attention. We did feel that one towel per person for a week was not enough - probably better to take your own.We did have a problem with dogs from the farm and elsewhere wandering in uninvited - there are no gates to stop them - this often happened at mealtimes as the weather was good and we ate outside quite a bit. There is no mobile signal at all, and the WiFi only worked very spasmodically. Overall we had a good time and would consider going back there for future family gatherings."

"Magna Cottage is a lovely warm and cosy cottage that was very well equipped for our stay over Christmas. However the only shower had no hot water and whilst attempts were made to fix it, this didn't happen. A small refund was made to us but on reading a previous review it would seem that Rural Retreats already knew this was a problem before we arrived. it would have been good to have been warned and some alternative set up in the upstairs bathroom. In addition the smaller sofa has a broken leg and there's no lock on the bathroom door; all details that should be sorted for the money paid, and the general high standard of the rest of the house. I also think mention should be made that the internet is so slow as to be non-existent and there is no mobile phone signal. If the shower had been hot and the internet usable, I would have rated Magna Cottage 5 stars."

"This property is stunning in its appearance and features which exceeded our expectations. There is definitely a wow factor as you first step in to the barn. The rooms are all en-suite and the communal areas are spacious. There is plenty of parking for cars. Underfloor heating downstairs is welcome and the woodburner was very welcome in the evening. The owners lit the woodburner for us twice and provided extra fee logs. There were a few issues with housekeeping which could easily be resolved in order to bring this property up to a 10/10 standard. Some items such as towels and bedding were a bit tired and could do with replacing. The owners were also difficult to reach at times as the property is on a working farm. With these amendments I would recommend this property to families and friends looking for a large, private house for a weekend or a week's holiday."

"Great House For A Get TogetherLarge but cosy; a quirky house with nooks and crannies, and with different staircases to various groups of rooms; a well-equipped kitchen with a huge dining table creating a focal point; a generous lounge with enough sofas for the whole group to snooze.Julia was helpful and attentive, whilst keeping up with her duties on the working farm. The wifi was workable; the mobile reception wasn't - get to know the land line number for the Tithe Barn as an emergency contact. The sixteen of us had a superb time in the house; we spent some time in the local pub, Bridport market, West Bay, and Furleigh Winery was well worth a visit. The Seaside Boarding House was a good recommendation, and a stroll down to the Hive Beach and the Hive Cafe for coffees completed an excellent Sunday lunch. We even had sunshine !"

"The property smells damp. The furnishings and fittings are quite shabby and not in a good way. Needs alot of investment to bring it up to scratch. This is an expensive let and whilst the outside of the property is lovely, the inside smells and needs seriously smartened up. We only used two rooms because my daughter was quite spooked by the miserable bedrooms, the kichen needs smartened up with new appliances and crockery and cutlery. It all feels slightly second hand - kind of old stuff you'd get rid of if it was in your own house. We couldn't communicate with anyone because connections so bad. Couldn't even hear over the payphone. Housekeeper replaced that with old yellowed phone which you wouldn't want to touch. I paid over £2000 for 10 days - wouldn't have stayed there for free if I was offered again. Was glad to get home."
