"This is the second time in 6 months that we’ve visited the Bothy. We went for a short break in February but a whole week this time. The owners are lovely, nothing is too much trouble & the cottage has everything you could need and then more, even down to a pint of milk in the fridge, tea & coffee in the kitchen & a packet of biscuits to welcome you!! After a bad experience on a holiday park, we wanted something much more peaceful.....& that’s what we found at this beautiful, tranquil place. Our son has made friends on the farm and been able to enjoy herding sheep & checking cows. The zip wire has provided many hours of fun!! Penrith is a 20 minute drive away and there is a retail park just off the motorway with an Aldi, Iceland and Home Bargains should the need arise. There are lots of things to do within about a 30-45 minute drive. Carlisle is also about 20 minutes away with lots of restaurants, a Vue cinema & obviously the Castle!! The kitchen is very well equipped with a dishwasher, fridge freezer, washer/dryer, microwave and all the usual pots & pans. There is even a slow cooker, panini press & a hand blender!! Although we didn’t need the heating this time it was lovely and warm in February. The beds are lovely & comfortable & both bathrooms have towels & toiletries. It’s a lovely peaceful location but a car is needed to see the local area. However the lanes are quiet enough to walk along and enjoy the scenery. We are already planning our next trip back, it’s everything we could possibly want from a holiday."

"Great place to stay, would happily go back. Location is brilliant, 15 mins into Keswick, 20/25 mins from Ambleside. As a photographer I was 15 mins from Derwent water, 15 mins from Ullswater, 15 mins from Thrilwater etc.. Couldn’t have been better. Cottage was really cosy, really nice decor showing the old building while still being modern. It has everything you need for self-catering, all you need to bring is food. Towels, hairdryer, dishwasher (plus tablets) salt, pepper, every cooking tool needed, bin bags and loads more. Judith and Mike were great hosts, they will go out of their way to help you, all you need to do is ask. They did with me in order to get some red squirrel photos. (you will see red squirrels while here) Very dog friendly, they have a new wood which is fenced in to take the dog out to the toilet, this saves the back gardens from getting messy and is encouraged to use. The garden is lovely but you do have to go outside the front door to get to it. Games room is great, ping pong, pool/snooker and fussball. Even provide board games, cards etc… You can also walk around the farm to see the animals, you will meet the 3 dogs pretty quickly as they roam around, the donkeys will come and say hi and love an eye rub. Tips: Wifi is good enough to stream from Netflix, so bring a laptop/phone cable to hook into the tv (hdmi). Bring a torch for those late night dog toilet trips as it’s very dark outside. (although there is a little one in the drawer if you want to use that)"

"Nice cottage in a fantastic location in the lake district located between the supermarkets of Penrith and the lovely cafes and restaurants in the quaint town of Keswick. Only 10 mins from the motorway junction but the property feels very isolated (a good thing). The lakes of Ullswater and Derwent water are 15 mins drive and offer fantastic walks in the mountains. The cottage itself is well stocked and clean. The living area is upstairs and the bedrooms/bathroom downstairs. With a small private garden with fabulous views too. The cottage has a lot of character with wooden beams and part exposed brickwork. Some of the furniture and the bathroom are a little dated but not a major issue. Nice powerful shower. The kitchen is new, well equipped and crockery very clean. The owner is very friendly and helpful. Home made jam and scones on arrival. Very dog friendly with a medium sized bed, towels and bowls supplied. Plus a dedicated dog woodland for them to run around. It's small but still a great feature. Would recommend for a small family looking to escape in the lakes."

"Blease Cottage is very happily situated in Threlkeld at the foot of Blencathra. It was fully equipped, including even trekking poles. Very comfortable and a great place to explore the Lakes. Local amenities are a bit lacking in terms of shops but there are 2 pubs in the village, and one further away in Scales. The nearest pub, the Horse and Farrier, does standard but good pub food. There is an excellent coffee shop in the village hall at the bottom of the road with great views of Clough Head. If you don't drive (we don't) there is an hourly bus service to Keswick which goes on to Workington via Cockermouth. We got a weekly explorer for £29 which is good value as local buses are pricey (by London standards). The local disused railway line walk to Keswick is now totally closed until December 2020 for maintenance, which is a shame but plenty of local walks. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable. We will return"

"Galena is a real get-away-from-it-all gem, deep within the English Lake District close to the village of Glenridding. It has an elevated position, with Ullswater in sight from the livingroom window. The cottage was cosy and warm (we were there January) and had everything we needed. The location was very quiet. All the places you are most likely to visit (Keswick, Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside, Consiton) are within short driving distance of the cottage. The only fly-in-the-ointment was perhaps not being allowed to stay on 2 extra hours on departure day (until 12pm). This was apparently to accommodate the cleaner rather than the guests! A bit disappointing given that it was low season and there didn't appear to be anyone coming in behind us. That said, we would return as it was a delightful cottage and not much to fault with it in the main."
