What our customers are saying about our Self Catering Holidays In Blisland.
- Ms Buckle, September 2018 - verified booking
"It was mainly ideal for our circumstances with enough space and all on one level. A seat in the shower for our disabled aged relative would have enabled use of that for them, standing using the bars was not an option and a stool in the hall could move about in the shower and was too low. That being said they did not advertise that this would be available and not knowing fully what space we had to play with meant the one used at home was left behind. The owners were helpful and asked us to contact them should anything be needed , other than that they kept their distance and were not in our pockets. Lots of information about local things to see and do. The Blisland Inn is a real bonus, being within easy walking distance for anybody without mobility problems and with plenty of parking around the village green. We were advised by bar staff to book for Sunday lunch if we wanted to eat in the restaurant part, which was a good tip for there are no many tables in that part. In the bar and outside you can order off the bar menu which is extensive, food from local producers and reasonably priced. All the people in the bar were friendly and helpful and we even went to do the pub quiz on a Weds night. The post office/ shop/café was not open every day and closed part of some days and sells newspapers and basic food needs. Nearest supermarket is Asda, a short drive away and is a large one. The church in Blisland is said to be John Betjemen's favourite. It is small inside with Norman features with a very impressive ornate altar and is open for anybody to wander around. Most disappointed by Pencarrow House, despite all its blurb. Booking through Sykes was easy and very detailed information was provided, unlike other similar booking sites."

" £60 extra for your holiday for NOTHING extra. I've had several holidays in this lovely cottage when Helpful Holidays was the agent. I cannot praise it highly enough. I was asked to review the holiday when I was still on holiday because Sykes couldn't work out it was a two week holiday !!!!!So I wrote the review in the cottage and in the first review I praised the cottage, setting, and all the staff and owners at Blisland. To my surprise I had an email from Sykes which said it wasn't policy to charge the rip off fee for both weeks. They only want to rip you off once, not twice! So I wrote back and said I was looking forward to receiving a £30 refund from Sykes. They agreed they should not have charged for both weeks so I expected a refund in a few days. SURPRISE SUPRISE still NO REFUND and it's been weeks and weeks since we came home. I guess Sykes are too busy working out how to squeeze more money out of us rather than organising a refund. Not good really are they? Sykes? Real Shame! "

"Higher Tumrose is a very cozy, but spacious bungalow. The large lounge has the best wood burning stove I’ve ever used - so easy to light. There was plenty of equipment in the kitchen. Everything worked although the appliances are a bit elderly (the microwave is small). The beds were very comfortable too. The downside; the main bathroom shower was little more than a dribble which meant queuing for the electric en-suite one. There are ten steps up to the front door and the paving is slippery when wet. Only a problem if you book the property, like us, with an elderly parent in mind. Bizarrely the sun lounge was a fly graveyard! This aside, Higher Tumrose was a great place to stay for exploring North Cornwall. We loved the pub too - great beer and really friendly."

"Now that they appear to have been taken over by Sykes Holiday Cottages we are less than delighted. Sykes Cottages have imposed a booking fee, which Helpful Holidays never did; they have removed the Family & Friends discount, which Helpful Holidays gave us; and they have increased the rental charge without any consultation with the owners of the holiday cottage. We have been going to the same holiday cottage for all these years - because it suits us and we like it. There is no advantage to us in having a much wider range of cottages to choose from. We have booked our holiday for next year - same weeks, same cottage - and it is costing us over £300 more than our holiday this year. We are not happy with Skyes Holiday Cottages."

" I wanted to book more than one week but this seems beyond your comprehension. You insist on breaking the holiday down into separate weeks presumably so you can charge a booking fee (whatever that is) for each week. Helpful Holidays never charged ANY booking fee but new agent Sykes make us pay the fee more than once. Cornwall is brilliant. Our cottage is brilliant but Sykes is screwing every penny they can out of owners and holiday makers for what? So they can waste my time duplicating receipts, invoices, pick up keys etc etc etc, Bring back Helpful Holidays. They were helpful. Sykes is very unhelpful and unwelcome. "
