"This cottage gives the wow factor from start to finish. We visited for Christmas and were so pleased to find we had everything we needed to enjoy the holiday as a home from home. From walking into the house we were so happy with how stunning the inside is, the views are amazing and the log burner just amlensit feel even more special. The owner had really gone the extra mile by putting in a Christmas tree for us, setting the dinner table and leaving us a beautiful festive hamper. No detail goes without thought, there are extensive instructions which make being there so easy there is no guessing where anything is or how it works. The house is so well equipped it says a lot when you can visit somewhere and cook a full Christmas dinner. My 3 year old son loved all the space to play with his new toys and we also loved that children had been though of top with games and jigsaws, safety features like the fire guard and the cupboard locks and not forgetting the roll too bath (this was he biggest hit) we felt so happy here and it is memories that will stay with us forever, we would love to return again and would recommend everyone visit S24325."

"A lovely cottage given that it sits in the grounds of Mellerstain House, so lots of nice parkland to roam around. Great sized bedrooms upstairs, but small downstairs bedroom and living area a bit cramped (for 2 adults and 3 kids and dog!). The cottage was generally tidy and clean, however an annual spring cleaning job is needed e.g. cobwebs and dust on higher window areas, the 4-poster bed canopy (!!) and the on-suite bathroom window of one bedroom which was admittedly high up, was so dirty it was unbelievable ;( and must surely have not been cleaned in years. This let down the overall otherwise nice appearance of the cottage. Crockery needs replaced, many chipped and cracked bowls and plates. I mentioned some negatives but it wouldn't stop me booking the cottage again, overall good."

"A quite remote place. Mainly for hill walkers or bikers. But even for not so active visitors there is a lot to see round about. Local villages are worth a look at, different styles of villages from most in the borders. Good pub in Kirk Yetholm, and another at Town Yetholm. Half hour drive to Berwick, try a train trip from there to Edinburgh, or go to Galashiels and have a trip on the on the Borders Line. Fish and chips at Eyemouth, justifies the drive. Kelso is stepping up the pace now. Well set up with shops and cafes. Nice flat, handy for getting about, well equipped. Only the rehearsals for ‘Strictly’ upstairs to set up a creaking and groaning. But not often. We liked this place."

"We four very much enjoyed our stay at S24325. Very comfortable, even in the heat of 2018's summer ! Although the A7 is very close with attendant noise at certain times, it did not really detract from a most pleasant stay. Great views across the valley, lovely pastoral scene. We didn't eat out locally but self-catered indoors mostly. We used the restored Borders Railway to get to Edinburgh and was amazed at the speed and comfort on the trip (from Stow, just down the road), it was also very reasonable price even without a senior railcard. Some issues with the Wifi, but this is a very rural location and anyway we all had our mobiles to catch up with emails etc.Would love to stay again."

"This is a very comfortable and well-appointed and spacious cottage. Being 5 miles from the nearest town there are no local amenities, so make sure your shopping list is filled on the way.The cottage is within easy driving of almost all of the border towns and their associated attractions and there are a number of good walks available locally.Everything that we needed was provided and all of the utensils and crockery etc were in very good condition. The beds and lounge furniture were all very comfortable. We visited in October and the property was extremely warm and cosy. There is a lovely conservatory with a wonderful view across the valley. I would strongly recommend S71542."
