Holiday Cottages In Scotland To Rent

Holiday Cottages in Scotland

Home of the haggis and the Agony Bags (AKA bagpipes), Scotland might be small, but it packs an awful lot into its tartan britches. Book one of our Scotland Cottages and you’ll be introduced to a world where mythical monsters (allegedly) live in lakes, crumbling castles look as though they’re fresh from a fairytale, and the countryside is just begging to be explored.

As well as being one of the most beautiful parts of the UK, Scotland has a thriving and vibrant arts scene going on. You’ll find a theatre or live-music venue in most of the larger towns and cities – but nowhere is Scotland’s dedication to artistic endeavours more proudly displayed than at the Edinburgh Festival. Our Scotland Cottages tend to book out fast around festival-time so, if you want to treat your family or loved one to a week or so of the beautiful, the moving and the downright bizarre, it’s worth getting your skates on and booking in advance.

Where in Scotland should we go?

Scotland is packed with attractions and things to see and so, whether you’re on the coast or enjoying the countryside inland. For a look at the scenery at its unspoilt best, it doesn’t get much better than the Isle of Skye. With mountains clawing at the sky, glittering lochs and a ragged, rugged coastline, it’s a feast for the senses. For hustle and bustle with a bit of history thrown in, you can’t beat Edinburgh. Riddled with winding backstreets, with excellent shopping and the imposing castle sitting on top, booking one of holiday cottages in Scotland here gives you access to everything you could need for a break.

The scene of many a kilted battle and the largest lake in Britain, Loch Lomond is a great place to escape the summer crowds. Not to be outdone, Loch Ness is the only loch in Scotland that boasts its own beastie and you can take part in monster-spotting trips across its tranquil waters. And then there’s the food to consider- Scotland offers some of the finest fare in the country, from outstanding fish and seafood to the much-prized Aberdeen Angus. Whatever you want from your break, booking one of our holiday cottages in Scotland is the first step towards a well-earned rest.

What our customers are saying about our Holiday Cottages In Scotland To Rent.

MAFF-T-UK - verified booking

"Location Firstly, we loved it, but I want to talk about the location before we move onto the Cottage itself. Glen Orchy is situated and starts south of Rannock Moor on the A 82 just below Bridge of Orchy, the lower end (by 100 meters ish in height above sea level) pops out just South of Dalmally at Inverlochy. We have driven past it countless times heading to other holiday destinations and it is very easy to miss. Glen Orchy is simply a hidden gem and I must insist you afford some time and pay a little detour the next time you find yourself “just passing by” you will not be disappointed. The river boasts lower and upper falls and a new path to one of Europe’s few but amazing waterfalls that pour over natural Marble. It is a single lane road which has countless passing places, picnic spots so getting through isn’t a problem. As would be expected, at some time you will eventually come to Achnafalnich cottage, try Google Earth you will find it no problem at all, although the current picture does not reflect the now decorated and refurbished state of the cottage. Cottage outside If you enjoy watching deer feeding whilst sat in the kitchen, bedroom or living room or outside on a chair then this is the place for you, our stay was at the end of March and there wasn’t a room without a view at some stage of Red deer. They will, and do graze to the front down onto the river and to the back of the cottage, and I mean right from you’re window, through your garden and to the tops. Without any exaggeration at all I could honestly identify three separate herds at one point albeit some at the top of the mountains that command both front and back so binoculars are a real benefit here. That now being said, parking is not a problem with plenty room for three cars, but if you have a dog that likes to run off for a bit of investigating the fencing will not contain your mutt as it is loosely maintained partial dry stone walls and wire fence with a total open area onto the road at the side. Young children can easily wonder onto the road if left unattended with a serious blind spot caused by another workshop/material store building next door (as I said look on google earth). There is a small fenced off garden to the front that we didn’t use said for feeding the birds. You are alone here with your closest neighbour about 0.7 of a mile away (1200 meters) we could get a phone signal 20 meters south of the cottage next to the small brook but it was sporadic at best actually in the cottage. Just sitting outside listening and watching with the now and again rare passing of a vehicle for me was perfect. Cottage inside OK….. To greet us was, what looked like homemade scones with Jam, some milk and butter. Real nice touch and a good start. The fire was already made ready for lighting and a very generous starter pack of logs coal and kindling to get you going. So with the views the location the starter packs with free scones we are off to a great start. The cottage was warm ready for our arrival electric wall heaters were on and a full tank of hot water for a great shower good to go. The bedrooms were clean tidy and warm the front room was welcoming begging to put your feet up and relax by the fire. Which we were happy to oblige later that evening. The kitchen was clean tidy and everything you needed. Well sort of, I will get back to that shortly, the utility room (one step lower than the kitchen separated by a partial glazed door had everything it needed to including the kitchen sink, no seriously, it was the kitchen sink? The kitchen doesn’t have one and you have to go to the utility room to get your glasses to drink, wash up or simply get a knife from the draw, all in the utility room next to the toilet and shower. Now this is not a complaint at all. It was just a bit weird but workable. You just have to remember to get everything ready first before suddenly realising you have to go to the other room to get the spoon for your brew or knife to spread the butter for the toast that’s just popped up. Why a sink unit and draw was not installed in the kitchen during the refurbishment is beyond me totally. I work in the construction industry and even my darling wife could see it was possible, let alone the abundance of space to fit the said items. But like I said not a complaint by any means just simply an observation that will at first catch you out as it did us as you start looking for things that are usually…… well …… in the kitchen! As for the double bed, the laminate floor made sure every turn, twist and flip creaked and echoed down the corridor by the hollow tube metal bed frame, much to our amusement. Ladies & gentlemen, these comments may seem or look like I’m moaning, I’m Not, I love the place I would live there indefinitely and would move in at first light of the morning if circumstances allowed. But if you’re going to review and score place then I believe it should be honest and fair. We have never returned to any of the places we have stayed previously despite commenting that we would be happy to do so however we do genuinely like to explore. This honestly could be the first time we would return. “What a wonderful place” my heart says five stars, alas my comments say four If you found this review helpful please take the time to give a thumb up as I took the time to tell you about it. Hope you enjoy your stay as we did Kindest regards Maff."

"I rented Achnafalnich to get away from it all for a week, and do some writing. I would highly recommend this property If you are looking for a quiet base in which to explore the Highlands. The cottage is located about an hour's drive from the Glasgow Airport, down an isolated glen alongside the River Orchy. Such an incredible location! The most spectacular portion of the West Highland Way is only a few miles away, and in fact I did walk from Bridge of Orchy to Kinlochleven and back as a two day diversion. Hiking, fishing, stalking, are all nearby. The cottage itself is impeccably clean, and the owners are wonderful – ready to help at a moments notice. At one point I lost the key, and within the hour I was being bailed out by my helpful and responsive host! Everything you need is here. Well equipped kitchen, decent WiFi, and satellite TV (though I cannot imagine why one would ever turn it on – I did not). It was cold when I stayed, but the coal fire kept the place toasty warm. This cottage is remote, and if you are OK with that, Achnafalnich is for you. 5 STARS on everything!"

"It was a nice touch to find fresh scones, butter and fresh jam to start our holiday :-) Also plenty of kindling, logs and coal for the fire :-) There is something special about looking out the window in the morning and seeing Deer!! The cottage itself is a little bit quirky in the way that the kitchen sink is not in the kitchen, it is in the wash room right next to the kitchen with the bathroom next to that which means if you need to go in the night, it can be a fair walk from the bedroom. These things are really nit-picking though! The cottage is on a little single track road with the River Orchy only about 100 yards away. The river runs through the spectacular Glen Orchy with (at the time we were there) snow capped mountains in the distance. We used it as a base to explore other places, Oban, Inverary, Kilchurn Castle/Loch Awe and Glen Coe to name but a few. A lovely place, I would recommend it :-)"

Mrs Ann Parry, St. Helens, Merseyside - verified booking

"The owners were wonderful hosts; available if needed but not intrusive. They had thought of everything that holiday- makers might need for their stay. There was a lovely tea tray with scones and jam on arrival. The location was superb - just what we wanted for a relaxing family break. It was remote enough to get away from it all, but close enough to Oban and other places of interest to be convenient. The cottage has recently been refurbished. It was very well equipped, comfortable, clean and bright and contained everything that we needed. It was a lovely place to return to, especially when the fire was lit in the evening. The added bonus was that we had sunshine for much of the week and we made several trips down to the nearby river in the evenings as it stayed light until after 10pm."

"Absolutely gorgeous cottage in a remote setting; mountains surrounding the property with the River Orchy running outside along the road. Plenty of space for our family of five and our dog. Real log fire and plenty of board games/books in the lounge. Very strong WiFi but mobile signal erratic, which is to be expected being so remote. Kitchen was well stocked with appliances and utensils; my only gripe is there wasn’t a dishwasher, but that really is the only thing and certainly not a deal breaker! We just all got stuck in and shared the washing up. The Tesco in Oban will do home delivery to this cottage so we arranged a delivery for the evening for when we arrived. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone who wants to chill out and get back to nature. Absolutely loved it!"
