"I stayed at Kestrel Cottage with my 96 year old mother in law. I had chosen the property for its wetroom, bedrooms all on one level and it's proximity to Durham. The cottage far exceeded all my expectations. It is much bigger than the photographs suggest, bathrooms, hallways and living area are very spacious. Everything is very new, tasteful and not worn out or shabby. The beds are really comfortable and the linen is good quality. The main living room is south facing so it's light, and bright. The views from the two full length windows are stunning, open fields and countryside. We were visited every morning by two friendly goats at the fence by the patio. Most afternoons we watched parachuters descending to an area about a half a mile away. All most entertaining. We could park at the door which was very helpful as my mother in law couldn't walk too far. In the wetroom there are handles to aid the not so steady. The owner kindly brought us a proper shower seat too, which was so useful.Even though very early in the year we found a lot to do in the area. Durham is nearby, we went several times. I highly recommend the Oriental Museum, we visited the botanical garden, cathedral and castle. The Hartlepool maritime museum was excellent. We went to Gateshead quay. Just a couple of miles away we went to the big outlet shopping centre and the coastal towns and coast road are on the doorstep. All this to do, and then at the end of a busy day out the cottage was a relaxing, warm and welcoming home to come back to.Jean the owner was friendly and helpful, she lives nearby but wasn't intrusive at all. The welcome pack was extremely generous, including eggs, bread, milk. Kestrel Cottage was an excellent choice for our holiday and we were delighted with everything we found there."

"We enjoyed a super holiday at S15100. The house is well situated with lovely views to front and back. The layout out inside is very practical with a large sitting room, large kitchen-diner ( with doors opening out onto the patio/garden) and good-sized bedrooms. The house was very well equipped with more than enough crockery, cutlery glasses etc.. The bathrooms and en-suite shower rooms were spacious with lovely fittings. Wifi and phone signal both excellent. There is a pub 150 yards away and about 300 yards is the railway station with trains to Whitby. It's a very friendly line but not very punctual! The house is very well placed for a number of lovely walks. The two shops (post office/store and butcher's) are about a mile away. The roads into and around the village are very steep ( up to 1 in 3) so we were not sorry not to have taken our bikes!A great holiday in an area we didn't know at all well before."

"A well equipped cottage with a large secure garden. Spacious and clean with plenty of seating area and living space. Nice layout. Wi-fi was a bit temperamental in the evenings but the owners were aware and sorting. Bed mattresses could do with replacing. Found the one in the double bed rather uncomfortable and lumpy. Not the best nights sleep. It was advertised that there were walks from the door step but no information to say where. A map etc showing the tracks that could be walked down would have been handy. The traffic noise from the nearby road was rather noisy during evening and first thing in morning. Welcome hamper was a nice touch. The place was clean and tidy and ideal for pooches. Overall we were happy with our stay at the cottage. Just a couple of minor things but I would recommend it and would return."

"S81226, as well as the other two cottages are suitable for disabled users and is a great central position to explore many towns and attractions in the North East. The location is in a quite, pleasant, secure area, and with this you really need a car to get to places. The cottage was fully equip with everything you would need, including a lovely arrival basket ( eggs, bread, butter, milk, jam, coffee, tea, sugar, condiments, and refreshing bottle for those who indulge ) The owners Jean and Amy were very helpful and if you needed anything they would try to sort it for you (although we couldn't think what else would be needed for these cottages.)A lovely time was had and would recommend to everyone.Always keep you camera handy while resting on the patio as curlew and chicks nesting or the odd owl may be spotted."

"A very comfortable cottage with beautiful views both front and back of the cottage. We liked the dining kitchen with patio doors into the back garden and a TV. The separate lounge was roomy and a homely place to relax in. ( we don’t like open plan kitchen/diner/living) . A bath room and bedroom downstairs and the two ensuite bedrooms upstairs suited us. The Arncliffe Arms pub may need some up dating but we had a hearty meal there and the service was very good. There is a very good butchers in the village. From the cottage it is easy to go to Whitby, Goathland Sandsend or sit in the garden and relax and count the hens and sheep."
