"Altho this bungalow had superb views and a brilliant location. We were not impressed with how the garden seemed to be a walk through for dog walkers! I was standing at kitchen window in pj's several mornings and people with digs were cutting thru a gap in back garden and walking thru garden and down drive! I was v shocked by this as it isn't stated in description it is a public walk thru!? If it was we wudnt have booked it! We have 3 young children and don't find this safe for them to be playing in garden with strangers walking thru! Plus out dog wasn't impressed! Your description actually states it stand in it's 'own'grounds?! I would not describe it as modern either with old tired sardines and drawers, one of which fell off when opening it and knob fell off in other room when opening drawer!( not great first impression) It could be a lovely holiday bungalow if a little bit tlc was shown to it. Yes it had a back door to garden but we had no key for this either? There was also a smell of damp, particularly in twin bedroom when heater was on, we discovered in corner of bedroom that damp had been covered up with paint! U cud see as it was a diffetent type and it showed! This is not great with 2 asthma sufferers in the bungalow! We couldn't contact the owner prior to arriving as no one answered the phone or returned our answer phone messages. We got a little list on arrival and phone number again, still no answer! There is a mobile number we found in a folder later in the hol, however this number not on the confirmation details we received. Luckily we asked some locals and found it and bungalow was open! We didn't see or hear from owner whilst there. We won't book again as garden is not enclosed for small children or dogs and is on a road! Plus the walk thru issue."

"S34781 is a delightful place to stay. There were 2 of us with a dog and it was ideal. Although it sleeps 4 I do think that would have been a squash. The kitchen was well stocked, there was plenty of hot water and the pressure was great making the shower work really well. The views are incredible and the stable doors meant we could take full advantage. We were lucky with parking as there was as always space but lack of a guaranteed spot was a little bit of a concern each evening. A couple of slight negatives, the tv was very small and crackly, no wifi (but a strong 4g signal) and the towels were small so if you're the luxuriating after a bath type take your own. Dogs aren't allowed on the furniture or upstairs so we crafted a barrier using 2 of the spare dining chairs and got very nifty climbing over this every night. There are lots of dog friendly places nearby. In fact, dog friendly seems to be the norm. We love this part of the country and find something new to explore each time but this is our first stay in S34781 and it has been a real find."

"We enjoyed the area and would visit again but not this cottage. We had an issue with the heating oil being smelt in the kitchen & lounge and had to leave the window open the 5 nights we stayed. My husband noticed there’s a leak as there was a pool of oil outside the kitchen window on the floor. Reported to the owner who blamed the wind blowing the wrong way! Also the blinds in the bedroom are inadequate. The light from the outside security light shines straight into the bedroom throughout the night. Mentioned to the owner who suggested we bloke them up, which we were already doing with cushions... not idea as it’s a barn and u can imagine how high one of the windows was. Shame, the decor and surrounding of this cottage is stunning but sadly we wouldn’t return. Also because it’s a small kitchen, but very well stocked I will add with quality crockery, the oven door wouldn’t open fully and I couldn’t adjust the shelves to fit our turkey in!"

"From the outside the bungalow is set on a lovely plot with pleasant views, but unfortunately the in side of the property was a massive letdown. Although cleanish it is very dated but worst of all very very cold, ok we did visit in winter but warmth is a pretty basic requirement, the storage heaters are useless not helped by the single glazed windows, to be fair this probably would not be an issue in the warmer months. The sofas and chairs in the living area are small and uncomfortable also are the mattresses which are thin and back breaking, the bathroom sadly is no better the shower curtain was moldy at the bottom and the shower was like standing under a leaking tap. All in all a real shame, should the owners spend a little on the property to get it to the standard you would expect should be."

"Nice clean cosy cottage in a good location, very easy to reach National Trust, Mills and the Tram Museum as well as Matlock Bath and Matlock, nice walk uphill to the heights above Middleton with beautiful views with an information centre and cafe. Owners who lived next door were very friendly and helpful as were the other neighbours. Had a bit of a ride though to get provisions. Although back garden was as described it was difficult to access and we did not bother after the first day. The dog had to be taken a walk in local area but open area and small park very close to front of property. Big plus point was the Pub next door, parking is difficult for the cottage but okay for a small car. We were fortunate that the property adjacent was not in use and we were able to use their bay."
