Ringwood is largely unspoilt by the march of time, and still enjoys a weekly street market on Wednesdays. Found on the banks of the River Avon, there is plenty of local walking to enjoy; including the Avon Valley Path. The short trip into the New Forest offers even more outdoor activities to enjoy. From further walking routes to brilliant cycling opportunities, this gorgeous part of the UK is well worth exploring.

"Great location in the New Forest and 30mins away from all major places. Great walks from studio itself.Unfortunately, the sudio isn't very private and owners did gardening, watering, compositing and tidying up around us whilst we tried to eat our dinner on the patio which was a bit disconcerting.......maybe that sort of stuff could be done whilst we were out all day? Don't get me wrong, we knew it was on their grounds but every night tiding up 5 feet away from us?? We're stayed in at least 30 cottages etc over 20 years and lots on owners grounds, but most owners respected our family private time together and spoke to us in the morning whilst leaving for the day and did all their 'odd jobs' whilst we were out all day.Plus side love the area and The Royal Oak pub is fantastic and all the staff are brilliant! Also, they got days wrong and thought we were leaving on Thursday and came out to speak to us when we went out at 11am saying don't worry about leaving late, they can still clean it from within time as they have family staying here. As you can imagine a bit of a scare thinking we are being turffed out a day early. Only when i mentioned we're booked until Friday morning did they realise their error. If you're after a private, detached property this isn't the place for you. If you like talking to owners daily whilst eating your dinner then this place is an ideal base. The sofa bed is very uncomfortable and my 6 year old didn't sleep very well due to this. Shower is slow which I'm used to living in a rural myself, but fluctuating from hot to cold every 10 seconds not right."

"We had a lovely stay at the Lions Retreat at the October half term. The house is spacious, comfortable and well-located with an enormous garden bordered by a stream. The stream was only shallow when we visited and hazardous only with very young children. The owners were very pleasant and helpful. However there were a few things about the property that could be improved to make the stay even better. The dishwasher is actually a pub-style glass washer and required constant filling and unpacking as it held only a few items at a time. There were no instructions when we got there, but Mike kindly came up to the house having printed some out. There were a few items of equipment that would have been very useful. As a family group with 4 children we ate in most evenings but it would have been great to have a potato peeler and a large tea-pot. Also a small sharp knife. We struggled to get any heat in the upstairs rooms despite turning up the thermostat . Fortunately it wasn't too cold and we managed without. Downstairs was heated by underfloor heating which was very responsive and comfortable. The quality of the fittings and furnishings was good, plenty of towels and comfortable beds. The jacuzzi was excellent and easy to use. The laundry room contained an extra fridge and freezer . the fridge was really useful to accommodate our overflow of milk etc.All in all a very pleasant stay but it could have been much beter with just a few little improvements."

"Cramped accommodation. Steep stairs an understatement. There was a sign warning to remind you to come down backwards. Definitely not suitable for anyone with any infirmaries or needing to get up during the night. Can only stand upright in a narrow band along the middle of the bedroom meaning only one person can dress/undress at a time. No hanging space in bedroom, only a very small amount downstairs. No natural light into bedroom. Small window looks into an enclosed carport. Hence room dim even during day and needs light to be used. If you need to get up during night the bedroom light would need to be switched on, partner woken, possibly to turn light on as only one light switch behind one of the beds in order to have a safe visibility to negotiate the stairs (more like ladder). Had to kneel on floor to access the clothes drawers. The fridge was missing one of the shelves and all the door shelving missing. Both easy chairs 'tired'.Description states property has electric central heating. It actually has an electric wall heater in the very small kitchen/lounge/dining area and an electric heated towel rail in bathroom. No heating upstairs.Location pleasant. We got used to the property over the week, but we are moderately fit. Enjoyed our stay as the property's good location allowed easy access to some pleasant enjoyable locations. Property description needs to be improved to make the property's limitations clear."

"This was one of, if not the best week we have spent away. The accomodation and surroundings were fantastic! as was the weather, and our hosts Ulli and Tony are two of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet, really friendly and helpful.Ulli makes the most wonderful flapjack and jam! all part of a lovely welcoming gift.Coming from a town, it was just fabulous waking up to the country views all around us, we even had a family of pretty deer in the paddock one night, and again early one morning walking along the track, as well as numerous species of birds feeding off the hanging feed baskets, some, like the Nuthatch ive never seen before, they are the ones that feed upside down (thanks for that information Tony). Being members of the National Trust we visited somewhere different every day, so many historical castles and houses, and Christchurch beach is gorgeous! and we recommend eating in the Royal Oak Pub, fantastic meals and friendly staff. You also get a really nice Brunch (breakfast) at Hockeys farm, within walking distance. As usual the week went so fast, Soooo relaxing! cannot wait to visit again. Amanda & Paul. X"

"Very private grounds. Enjoyed hot tub and games room. TV adequate size and quality. Liked the large dining table as well. We had 8 in our party. When we arrived we all got stuck in to cleaning up, a bit dusty, lacked attention to detail in the cleanliness ( I have been to worse!) kitchen utensils, plates/pans all washed before use. Not sure why you need to have an industrial dishwasher that you have to watch and drain yourself- we didn't bother using it. The cooker took some getting used to as well. The upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms were particularly difficult to negotiate with steep eaves- you had to bend over to use the sink and I'm only 5'2. The shower door would stick and wobble. One of the showers wouldn't work properly. I was disappointed with the cleanliness and some of the equipment however the space was excellent, indoor and outdoor."
