About this property

Llanelltyd 2 miles. A delightful stone-built, Grade II listed former farmhouse, set high up in a peaceful, isolated location, on the foothills of Y Garn Mountain yet only two miles from the village of Llanelltyd, in Southern Snowdonia. Oozing character and coming complete with lots of original features, Tyn Llywn offers spacious and comfortable accommodation for larger families or groups of friends who are in need of a relaxing holiday in an away-from-it-all location. Boasting spectacular views of the Cader Idris Mountain, as soon as you arrive at this property you will be in awe of the tranquillity and outstanding beauty that this holiday home has to offer. When you approach the entrance to this characterful property, you’ll notice the adjacent stone barn, where you can store your bikes. As you enter, you’ll come straight into the first of two sitting rooms, with flag stone floors and original oak wood beams, comfy seating for five and an inviting woodburning stove, set in a gorgeous stone fireplace - perfect for those chillier nights. To your left, a door will lead you to the second sitting room, with a superb grandfather clock, additional seating for five guests, a further woodburning stove and a TV to cuddle up in front of with your favourite DVD – a great hideaway for the children whilst the adults swap stories next door. Straight ahead of you to the left of the stairs are two steps leading to the fully-fitted kitchen with dining area, offering seating for eight, a TV and a lovely AGA – an inviting focal point for a family meal to remember. To the right there’s a handy utility room, with a cloakroom adjacent to it. Ascending the original wooden stairs to the first floor, to your left is a spacious double bedroom, straight in front of you is the single room and to your right a further double bedroom - mind your head here as there are beautifully-restored original low beams. There’s also a family shower room and along the hall, another door with low beams will lead you into the master bedroom with Velux windows, a king-size double bed with an en-suite bathroom, complete with a period roll-top bath. The grounds at this property are fully enclosed with ample space for parking, a barbecue and furniture to enjoy a drink whilst watching the sunset, and you are also surrounded by open farming countryside, with walks galore from the doorstep. Just seven miles to the north you have Coed Y Brenin mountain bike trail centre, one of the most revered rides throughout Europe. There are also the outstanding sand dunes of Barmouth just 10 miles away to the west, as well as the idyllic market town of Dolgellau only four miles to the south, with a fantastic range of restaurants and historic buildings to explore. This splendid property is a great base for discovering Southern Snowdonia or for a break away in complete privacy.

Set at the starting point of the sweeping Mawddach Estuary and caught between Snowdonia’s sea and mountain scenery, the small, peaceful village of Llanelltyd rests amongst climbing green hills, offering a perfectly peaceful holiday location for touring this vibrant area. The crumbling Cymer Abbey, a 12th century romantic ruin, and St Illtyd’s Church, thought to be one of the oldest in Wales, stand testament to the village’s past.

The house itself is so full of character, it had everything that we needed and was very clean. Eirian was really helpful and thoughtful. To be honest this wonderfully, renovated farmhouse is in a dream location, we are so glad that we booked it and would love to visit again in the future. Diolch yn fawr iawn!

It's a stunning location, with great views across the valley to Cadair Idris, in a lovely pastoral landscape with plenty of good walks from the door. It's very quiet with an amazing night sky. The cottage is spacious, clean, warm and full of character with all the facilities we needed. We didn't have the best weather for our week but there's plenty to do in a short distance. We will definitely come back.

The property is remote, but in a beautiful setting with amazing views and walks from the doorstep. For us, this made the remoteness more than worthwhile. The walks that take in the views across the estuary were particularly lovely. The property itself has been beautifully renovated with lots of original features and quirky character, which we love. It is spacious and has all of the facilities that you might need, two sitting rooms with lovely log fires, two TV's and a radio, downstairs loo and two large bathrooms upstairs. The kitchen is huge and would make a perfect setting for a family Christmas lunch! There is a utility area with washing machine and tumble dryer, which is essential to dry off your walking clothes. The owners had left cakes which was a lovely touch. The bed we slept in was comfy and the property was very clean throughout. I've seen some other reviews that mention the steep drive to the property and condition of the tracks, please don't let those put you off! Yes, it is quite a long way up the single width track and yes, there is a sharp right turn with a steep hill, however, after the first time it is a doddle and not an issue at all - I actually quite enjoyed it as part of the experience! In terms of the areas that could perhaps be improved, we found the two seater sofa in the sitting room with the TV a bit small for us and would have preferred a larger sofa or perhaps the TV situated in the larger sitting room with the three seater sofa. The property would benefit from some little touches, such as lamps and a couple of rugs and throws downstairs to make it feel more cosy and homely. Some details of walks from the property would have been helpful. Although the garden is technically enclosed, there were rogue sheep that kept finding their way into the garden (as sheep do!) so we weren't able to let our dogs run loose (plus they would have loved rolling/eating the sheep poo!). All in all, we loved it and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Thank you so much to the owners for their hard work renovating this absolute gem and letting us stay!!
