About this property

A former gatehouse dating back to the 1790's, close to the sandy beaches of the Cambrian coastline and the Rhinog mountains. Just outside the village of Dyffryn Ardudwy between Harlech and Barmouth.

Dating back to the 1790’s, The Lodge was once the gatehouse to Cors-y-Gedol Hall and is now a delightful holiday cottage for six people, set in a third of an acre of gorgeous gardens, and just a few minutes away from sandy beaches and rugged mountains. The lovely Bennar beach is just down the road on this particularly stunning section of the north Wales coastline, whilst behind you are the wild Rhinog mountains, criss crossed with footpaths and bridleways. The Lodge is close to the village of Dyffryn Ardudwy which has a small shop, café and two pubs, also a railway station on the scenic Cambrian Coast line. Your are located between the seaside resort of Barmouth and the historic village of Harlech, about 5 miles from both.

The Cottage: has achieved a Visit Wales 5* and is very well presented throughout. It’s a lovely building from the outside and full of character inside as well. There is central heating and a wood burner in the sitting room. Plenty of private parking and room for boats etc if needed.

The Sitting Room: has the original beamed ceilings and a large fireplace with wood burner. There are comfortable sofas and easy chairs, and a lovely window seat. Freeview TV, DVD, ipod dock and WiFi.

The Dining Room: enjoy eating at this large oak table in the separate dining room with feature fireplace and antique furniture. Interesting architectural windows add to the charm of this room.

The Kitchen: is well equipped with an electric cooker, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and microwave. There is also a breakfast table and chairs for more casual meals.

Utility/Cloakroom Room: houses the washing/dryer, WC and basin

There are three bedrooms,

Bedroom 1: is the master bedroom with king size bed and en suite shower room with WC and basin. Views are out to the front of this historic lodge.

Bedroom 2: is a newly furnished room with a zip and link bed that can be arranged as two singles or a super king size. There are lovely arched Gothic windows looking out to the front a garden at the side of the lodge.

Bedroom 3: has full sized bunk beds and views to the rear garden.

Bathrooms: the first-floor family bathroom has a bath with shower over, WC and basin. There is also the en suite shower room and ground floor cloak room.

Outside: the garden is a real delight with several different areas and views to the beach and the hills of the Llyn Peninsula beyond. There are lawned areas, ideal for games, seating areas with picnic bench, and a lovely cottage garden.

Bennar beach is part of the Morfa Dyffryn sand system and is popular with surfers and for fishing. The whole system is an SSI and is lovely for walking and general beach activities. The cycle way Sustrans Route 8 goes past the cottage for access on quiet roads to both Harlech and Barmouth, though the ride to Harlech is steep! The Mawddach estuary in Barmouth is also fabulous for cycling and walking whilst the Barmouth sea front is always busy, with ice cream shops and a small fun fair, also boat trips can be taken from here. Nearby Harlech has the stunning castle. Further afield Portmeirion is 20 miles away, Porthmadog for the Welsh Highland Railway - 22 miles and Blaenau Ffestiniog for ZipWorld - 20 miles. About an hours drive will get you to the foot of Snowdon for the train or walks to the summit.

The property was a perfect base for our stay in Wales (especially when it came with a week of wonderful weather!). From the home-made welcome cake to the support when my husband was unwell, Jane was the perfect landlady. With glorious beaches, majestic mountains, activities for adrenaline junkies and some great places to eat.
