About this property

Penmachno 0.5 miles. A former slate miner’s semi-detached cottage, set on the hillside, half a mile above Penmachno in the beautiful Machno Valley in the heart of Snowdonia. Sympathetically renovated by the current owner, with stylish touches and a blend of modern fixtures and antique furnishings, this charming cottage is nestled in a quiet, rural hamlet with garden views across the valley. Entering into a welcoming, open plan sitting area with an inglenook fireplace housing a warming woodburning stove, you’ll want to settle down on the comfy sofa straight away. The kitchen has been carefully planned to offer all you should need for a memorable stay, with an intimate dining area ideal for a family meal or perhaps a romantic dinner for two. Upstairs are two well-presented bedrooms, with a double bedroom to the front offering far-reaching views and a cosy twin room, ideal for children to the rear of the cottage. A modern ground floor shower room completes the accommodation. Outside, there is off road parking to the rear of the cottage, with a sunny patio area and seating at the front, where you can sit and unwind with a good book or the morning papers in peace and tranquillity. Close by, there is an abundance of things to see and do, with the famous Penmachno mountain bike trail across the valley and the Marin trail just a 10-minute drive away. Also numerous doorstep pathways lead to unspoilt countryside, plus there’s easy access to the peaks of Snowdonia, and the sandy beaches of Cardigan Bay are just a short drive away. Ideal for a family holiday or cosy, romantic break, this cottage offers an ideal location in which to explore and appreciate the delights of North Wales.

Perfect little parking space behind house, nice relaxing spot with table and chairs out the front. Lots of little birds coming and going to watch too. No complaints at all.

Comfy beds. Peaceful and not touristy. Set on a hill but I never met a vehicle coming the opposite direction on descending the single track road by car into the village centre! Good small Londis in Penmachno. Local map and walk books at the property were very helpful although paths on some were fairly indistinct when out walking so map definitely needed. A fabulous viewpoint at Cadair Ifan Goch (Maenan walk) and we enjoyed trekking up to Llyn Geirionydd from Trefriw - great pies and sausages at the butchers there. Learning about the slate and watching slate splitting demonstration at National Slate museum was excellent and Bodnant gardens was beautiful, offering a wide variety of garden landscape and an extensive local wares craft shop to marvel at. Food wise we would highly recommend eating in at the Hangin' Pizzeria at Betws y Coed. No SMS texting/calls from the property were possible for us but WhatsApp over WiFi worked fine. All in all it was a lovely place to stay and sufficient for the needs of myself and 2 young adult children.
