"The cottage is not like the picture ,its shame it could be a lovely cottage if given some TLC ,We do suggest that a welcome pack and maps ,leaflets on the area would be good"

"Had a lovely mid week break to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday and had an enjoyable time. Spacious cottage with a lovely dog friendly pub right on the doorstep. Good location for plenty of walking"

"We've stayed in many holiday cottages but sorry to say this was disappointing the worst. There was no private outdoor space, visitors to the gastro pub/micro zoo walking past the back door and able to see into our living space so felt uncomfortable using the hot tub. The hot tub kept breaking down and stopped working completely 2 days before we left. No welcome bag of logs despite polite reminder. Tumble dryer not working, one reason why we'd booked this property, to dry our walking gear. Cottage could be beautiful but not maintained. Light bulbs don't work, that someone else had previously mentioned in their review. One a positive note we enjoyed the beautiful countryside, walks and there's a very good pub down the road."

"Booked the Blossom cottage to enjoy a few nights away (as part of a hen do). Cottage was not clean upon arrival and lacked a lot of basic necessities such as kitchen roll, hand wash, tea bags and so on. The lady in charge explained that the cottage was self catering and so there should be no expectations for anything to be provided. In addition to this, the hot tub was not fully functional for the duration of our stay. This was especially disappointing as this was one of the main reasons we chose to stay there."

    "Lovely holiday and hot tub"

"We were a little hesitant following some of the reviews about damp. The cottage is over 200 years old and yes showing signs of damp, but no smells at all.The owners were very welcoming and answered any queries promptly. The cottage is lovely, we visited with our 4 children (aged 10-15) and had plenty of space. Beds were comfortable and bathroom was big. 2 log burning fires were lovely but not needed as the heating was more than adequate. The cottage is based at the back of the owners pub, with plenty of grounds for the children and a surprise of a mini zoo which the children loved, absolutely loved. Hot tub also very useful. The kitchen has everything required to cook. Cottage also has a dishwasher and a washing machine. If you like walking, then plenty available - even walk to the highest waterfall in South Wales which is stunning - it's a jaunt so only advisable to walk if u don't mind walking up and down hills for over an hour each way - but very scenic. 20 minutes drive to the beacons national park - -again a lovely place to visit. A spar just down the road for anything that's needed or big supermarkets 10 minute drive. We would def look to stay again and don't be put off by the reviews of damp - it isn't a problem."

"As identified in another review we read before booking, the cottage does have a serious damp problem! However we were only staying for 4 nights & it wasn’t really an issue for us.The place was very clean & nice decor. A couple of bits weren’t working but not major issues.Only issue for us was we had a dog & children & the garden was unsecured with building material in as most of the garden in the photo is being made into a small animal park. So no kids/dog not an issue but we were led to believe there was a large fenced garden- which there isn’t anymore."

"great location and the hot tub was good. What let this place down was the beds that were very cheap and saggy and half the lightbulbs were missing so you could hardly see anything, not great for winter. For the price I would expect a comfy bed. They have scrimped so it negates all the advantages"

"Quaint, 'away from it all', well equipped cottage in a lovely location with views of hills. Animals on site and hot-tub makes for a very relaxing stay. Lovely, friendly & helpful owner."

"This cottage really didn't live up to expectations. From the strong smell of damp to the dirty toilet and everything in between it really wasn't a great place to stay. The floors were so think with hair we had to buy a vacuum cleaner whilst there to try and tidy up a bit.We were staying as a family, and had planned to use the three bedrooms, but had to put both children in the same room together as the room with bunks was very damp and we worried about their health if they stayed in there. Our bed, although looking good, was actually very uncomfortable. As was the sofa and chairs in the living room. The bath has no shower attachment to enable hair washing at all. We need up having to get a large jug to try and rinse clean. The floor covering in the bathroom is also coming apart. Probably something to do with the lack of bath mat. We booked a cottage with a washing machine and tumble dryer, turned out it was a washer dryer, however nothing I could do would get the dryer part to work. Very irritating given I like to wash on holiday to keep in top of things. The kitchen was well fitted out with oven, job microwave etc. However nothing was clean. Another major disappointment was the hot tub. We only ever stay in cottages or lodges with tubs. It's our luxury when on holiday. However this wasn't a luxury this time. All previous places have told us not to worry about chemicals as they sort it and also make a point of telling us its all fresh and they change the water for each set of guests etc. However I doubt the water had been changed in this one for a while, it. Smelt and looked quite grim. We were also given no instruction on use etc like most places. The cottage has potential, it just needs some proper attention and eye for detail. Unfortunately I will never see it as I certainly won't be returning."

"Very damp cottage and evidence of recent rain water ingress (puddle by kitchen door). BBQ still dirty and sausages inside it. Smells of damp all through. Left after 1 night instead of a week"

"I enjoyed my stay. This is a lovely cottage, great location, not least for the close proximity of a pub and the fact you can see wallabys from the adjacent wildlife rescue centre out of the windows, but also for local attractions. Bed/matress was very comfortable. It seems that its may be undergoing a revamp, there is some cool decor and a new cooker so there are obviously new additions. But, and I say this as someone who lives in a old house and expects a stone cottage that is clearly at least 100 years old to have its issues, it is damp. It smells of damp ( as does my house in winter) and the back bedroom wall seem to suffer the most. There is no visible mildew etc, just a smell and patches on ths wall that appear to be damp. The ceiling covering in the living room has clearly departed company from the actual ceiling, the bathroom floor is 'split' (water damaged? Don't know, not an expert) in one portion and there is no shower. So yes its a good location, it has a hot tub, generally clean. However is it perfect? No, and I personally think that until obvious problems are addressed ( and i think the owner is working to adress this, and as i've said old houses get damp and there is little you can do about it) Don't get me wrong, i enjoyed my stay, modern decor quirky building, immeditate location was unique in a good way. Just the finer points need to be addressed. A cottage of two halves."

"We all enjoyed our weekend at the cottage, only downer was that when we got there we realised there was no hot tub due to it breaking and being removed earlier in the week (which as we are all 21 we specifically booked it for that reason). We felt like we should have been pre told either on the phone or when collecting the keys, not have to ring a few times to actually ask where it was which was disappointing. To be honest we were compensated very nicely which made up for it totally. We all had a free main meal at their restaurant next door (which was stunning) and 3 bottles of wine. We were also promised a single night stay in the future to try out the new hot tub but not to sure if that would actually happen as promised as nothings been arranged after it was said. The cottage itself was lovely, so clean and tidy, lots of dvds available to watch and felt very homely. Local pub not to far away and local attractions such as the waterfalls a short drive away which was lovely."

"No showerMould on wallsLack of utensils in kitchenNo mention of pub being fully booked for food all weekendMattresses extremely used (very old and sunken) and uncomfortableOne one double room no mention of other rooms being single beds/bunksHot tub features not workingOnly 1 set of towels for 3 nights for 2 people despite making aware there would be more than 2 of us"
    Jamie
"Excellent location, clean, tidy. Clean spa. Only drawback is we had to purchase tea towels and a sharp knife. There was also no initial supplies for a fire as advertised. Attached to a nice pub. Parking not a problem. Would easily go back again."

"POSITIVESCottage has lots of original features, which gives it lots of character. The location is excellent, close to lots of attractions. Could not fault the pub and food. Micro zoo was fun. Hot tub was hot and very relaxingBed was very comfortable and king size a bonusSky TV, DVD player with selection on DVD's, iPod adapter, WiFiNicely furnishedHeating on when we arrivedVery private NEGATIVES Very strong smell of damp and visible on walls. Ceiling paper coming away in lounge areaFloor coming up in bathroom No showerWould have liked a welcome pack with advice Key holder/ owner didn't come to make sure everything was ok. Steps into garden - there were none and very slippy has had been raining. No steps into hot tub. Broken light switch for stairs light. SMALL NEGATIVESPosition of mirror in bathroom for hubby to have shaveNo bin in bathroomLeaking roof in lean too area. Had a pet slugWe enjoyed our stay there but feel that it was not worth the price and need an extreme make over, especially with the damp, decoration and install a shower, but don't want to loose the character. When we returned home there was a t-shirt my husband had not worn but you could smell the damp on it. Loved the uneven floor in the bedroom that when you walked the chest of draws draw opened and the wardrobe looked as if it had spent too much time in the pub! Could be made into a very luxury cottage, but I understand that with 3 bedrooms it is aimed at families and it's all cost. Would love to return but needs to be made over first."

"We found it to be a lovely cottage but the damp problems let it down, also with being damp in the property it would of been better to have leather sofas instead of fabric ones as they smelled of damp and where dirty, once we throw a sheet over them and had the log burner going the damp smell disappeared quite a bit. The gardens and hottub were very nice except we didn't see anyone put any chemicals in it while we were there in that week, the pub at the end of the lane dished out lovely meals and would recommend to visit this as the food was 10 out of 10."

"No overhead shower as stated.Oven could be cleaner"
    Emily
"We had a fantastic holiday in this lovely old cottage. The owners were very friendly and were more than happy to help provide anything we needed to make our stay more comfortable. There was evidence of some past damp problems in one of the bedrooms but there was no damp in the cottage and it was clean. We would happily stay here again. It was very cosy in the evenings with the wood burner on, the kids loved the garden and the animals and the pub was fantastic."
    Richard
"This cottage has all the basic indegredients to be special but is let down by some pretty straightforward issues. So, the positives: Amazing location on the Swansea Valley side of the Brecon Beacons with walks into the mountains from the back door;Amazing garden that presents a real adventure for little people and dogs;Hot tub in the back garden;Micro zoo next door;Friendly owners;Comfy beds;Gastropub next door. But here are the problems:Only a bath with no shower attachment - the novelty of a relaxing bath wears off after a few days!Bathroom floor lifting up and no bath mat (think the two may be linked)The cottage is advertised and priced as 3 bedrooms but we were advised not to use the 3rd bedroom due to to ingress of damp from chimney;3 dining chairs for a 3 bedroom, 6 person property;Very small fridge despite having space in sun room for a redundant washing machine, old paint pot and chest of draws - needs a family fridge freezer; No lights working on stairs or in children's bedroom on arrival although sorted out as soon as the issue was raised;Kitchen ventilation not working and very greesy;Remnants of previous occupants fire still in wood burning stove;Lounge is very gloomy despite efforts to light up - if same spot lights in master bedroom were installed in lounge would major improvement."

"Delightful cottage in a wonderful location, would happily visit again."
    Emma
"The cottage was very disappointing, all the rooms smelt damp and had a lot of mould. Most the rooms had diffusers to mask the damp smell. The small room with the bunk beds had a lot of mould up the walls which was horrible. The owner even told us to not go in that room and shut the door.No shower and no towels even though they advertise them on there site. One of the kitchen cupboards had mouse poo in, so they couldn't of cleaned them.We couldn't let the dogs in the living room incase they licked the walls with mould on and we couldn't let then in the garden because the garden wasn't enclosed like they said it was, they could of either ran out near the road or the gap near the goats and other animals. There was a mirror and a pot with chemicals in near the summer house. The summer house you couldn't get in because there were work tools and rubbish inside which was a shame as the outside of it looked nice. Also there was a old bonfire which wasn't nice to see. We was horrified when we saw a thick wire sticking out of the garden wall. One of the staff members said it was just were the hot tub use to be. We only stayed one night as we didn't want to stay any longer. When we did fall asleep the loud speaker trespasser alarm woke us up. The only good thing was the lovely zoo they had."
    andrew
"The cottage was very disappointing. The bedrooms were damp especially the one with the bunk beds. There was no wardrobes or drawers to put clothes away in that room either. There was not enough comfy seats for number of occupancy. There was no smoke alarms Which I thought was illegal when renting a property. On the plus side the pub and zoo were excellent"
    robert
"Very nice cottage, with amazing zoo and very friendly people/pub"
    Chris
"The key holder was very friendly. The cottage was fairly clean but a few things were missed, like the dirty grill tray and a full bucket of ashes and rubbish by the fire and both log burners were also full of ash.The cottage wasn't particularly well equipped, there wasn't much kitchen equipment and there was only 1 towel between us. We had to buy new towels locally to suit our needs. The cottage was obviously damp and the damp smell throughout the cottage wasn't great, although efforts were made to mask it with diffusers. The sitting room was so dark it was impossible to read a book. More lighting is needed in this room and instructions for the tv equipment and heating would be useful. We left a day early because it wasn't very enjoyable to stay there, although the hot tub was very nice."
    LOUISE
"The cottage was beautiful in really pretty surroundings. The bed was very comfortable. Unfortunately my husband was not happy due to the fact that when we booked it said blossom cottage had a shower but there wasn't not even a hose on bath taps. So listing a bit misleading there. There were mouse droppings all in kitchen cupboards which I cleaned out during stay. Bathroom and one of the bedrooms had a lot of mould on walls with no attempt to cover it up. Couldn't use hot tub when we wanted as people walking in and out of garden all day and having bonfires in garden most mornings. Gate into garden was kept open so had to keep our dog on lead so she wouldn't go out of the gate. So in all we felt quite awkward being there like we were in the way. This was our honeymoon and felt a bit let down."
    Sarah
"It was a lovely cottage and the owners were friendly. The beds were comfy as was the sofa! The hot tub was fantastic, unless you had short legs, because getting in it was a challenge with no steps. The equipment in the kitchen was basic and I think a party of 6 would struggle. The gardens are lovely and great for the dog. However, having people randomly walking through to look after the birds or fetch chairs from the summerhouse invaded privacy quite a bit. We even had a dog visit one day as someone left the gate open, so it's a good job our dog was safe inside! The cottage has a problem with damp, which was a shame. It would really benefit from having a shower installed, too. The cottage was good value for money and we had a lovely week there."
    Dennis
"Lovely setting, huge garden, perfect for all the dogs. The oldies complained that the living room was too dark in the day to do their crosswords. They really need to sort out the damp and mould issue in the bunk bed room. It didn't smell great and I'm sure it wasn't that healthy."
    Linda
"The location was fab, the kitchen needed more utensils although having read previous reviews I took a lot of my own. The bed was extremely comfortable although the bottom sheets did not fit . The mattress needs a protector as it is marked. There is a hoover which needs replacing as it did not pick up the dog hairs. The cottage is suffering from some damp which is understandable due to its age, but could be put right easily. There is no where near enough lights in the living room which I found had to have lights on all the time. The owners and their staff were lovely and very friendly - and had the hot tub was an added bonus."
    Richard
"A clean, warm cosy stone cottage. The owner was keen to ensure that we had everything we needed but could not help with the weather. The hot tub was just what was required to relax at the end of the day's touring. The food in the owners pub/restaurant was fantastic, although London prices, which we did not mind as the chef made best use of the high quality produce purchased. We will return to Blossom Cottage."
    Lin
"We loved the hot tub although it didn't seem to have any chlorine added all week. The garden was lovely and wild but user friendly, just a shame there were no outdoor furniture provided. The kitchen had only very basic utensils and was quite small. Only a tiny fridge with a missing shelf, for 6 people? The living room didn't have enough seating and there were 5 of us. The sofa had seen better days. No shower in the bathroom, but a good sized bath. The bedrooms had barely any room to put your clothes, one room had no furniture other than the bed. Main bedroom bed was quite soft but also comfy. Loved the animals next door, our teenagers even sat with the meerkats! Food at the pub was mostly very good. We did enjoy our week but felt that the cottage needed upgrading."
    Hugo
"Very limited cooking utensils and not a very clean hot tub."
    Rebecca
"Lovely cottage. Owners were very friendly and always on hand in local pub. Only downside was lack of cooking utensils and general kitchen ware."
    Emma
"Lovely location, situated well for all the attractions in and around the Brecons. Warm and helpful hosts. The garden was fantastic but is not secure if you have dogs who are curious or can get over low walls and be aware there is a small pond. Although the cottage is advertised for 6 people there are only 4 sofa spaces leaving the remaining 2 on the floor or a dining room chair. It wasn't a problem as there were just the 2 of us but I wouldn't be impressed if we had travelled with friends. The double bedroom was good with a very comfortable bed. The kitchen is small and could be a bit better equipped. It was useful having a washing machine and tumble dryer though - detergent is thoughtfully provided. I was disappointed that there is no shower. It would have been nice to have more info about the property available, for example where to turn on the hot water etc. One thing that was an annoyance and maybe nothing to do with the property owners was a loudspeaker trespasser alarm which went off very early every morning basically shouting at would be trespassers but was actually probably staff arriving for work at the pub/mini zoo?!"

"love the location. the food in the adjacent pub is superb....thoroughly recommend staying here !! looking forward to our stay later in the year."
    Richard
"We had a wonderful time here with our three young children aged 6, 4 and 2. The owners were very friendly and helpful and the cottage is immaculately presented. The weather was not great when we arrived and Claire went out of her way to borrow DVDs for our kids to enjoy, for which we were really grateful. The wood stove is fantastic and the central heating keeps things cosy if you don't feel like lighting the fire. The beds are very comfortable and the living area is well equipped. The kitchen, however, is only minimally fitted out and it is a wee bit like camping (for example there is only one saucepan, no frying pan or serving utensils or serving bowls, no vegetable peeler or grater, tea pot etc.). That is the only area lacking, however. The situation is lovely and the animals next door are great for young children to pop over and see whenever they like. The local attractions are excellent for all ages and we found it easy to fill our week with fun things to do and see. The caves and dinosaur park only a mile or so down the road was particularly good. The food at the inn next door is excellent and it has a lovely atmosphere. We would recommend this placemat hour hesitation as a great place to stay."
