About this property

A light and airy annexe to the owners’ property, on the edge of the small village of Sarn, close to the stunning Welsh Marches, the Kerry Ridgeway and Shropshire Hills AONB. A perfect base, providing deceptively spacious accommodation for couples looking to explore the fantastic area. The property offers ground floor accommodation with one large bedroom and a modern shower room. There is a well-equipped kitchen with dining area. The sitting room is spacious, with picture windows making the most of the views up to the hills in the distance, and plenty of space to relax in front of the cosy electric fire. Outside, you can sit in the small walled garden with views across the fields to wooded hillocks beyond, or relax on the patio and enjoy a glass of something cool. The Kerry Ridgeway sits up on the hills, visible from the property, and runs along the natural border of Wales with England, providing fantastic walking and cycle trails. You are ideally placed to explore the fabulous countryside which is peppered with little towns such as Montgomery and picturesque villages such as Berriew or Bettws Cedewain, many with welcoming country inns. Why not explore the banks of the River Severn, running through the valley in its infancy, or perhaps enjoy a peaceful amble or bike ride along the Montgomery Canal? Surrounding Newtown, 7 miles away, are various nature reserves, with the chance to glimpse some fabulous wildlife, from resident red kites to aerobatic sand martins in nearby Pwll Penarth Nature Reserve. Just a 12 mile drive takes you to the National Trust’s Powis Castle, with Italianate terraces and impressive interiors. Slightly further afield, take a trip to Lake Vyrnwy, around an hours’ drive, on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park; a fantastic 24,000 acre RSPB reserve of beautiful scenery mixed with the impressive architecture of the dam and fairy-tale style turrets of the tower. A perfect base.

Deep within the Vale of Kerry, the small village or Sarn is centrally located in Wales and is also close to the border of Shropshire. Known as the Marches, this scenic region is steeped in history. The nearby village of Kerry, with its shop and two pubs - one of which serves food - is a popular spot for walkers and cyclists. The Kerry Ridgeway, a 15 mile route through the hills, offers lovers of the outdoors to explore the countryside and provides remarkable views of up to 70 miles in all directions on a clear day. The castles at Montgomery and Powys, in addition to the medieval towns of Bishops Castle, Ludlow, Shrewsbury and Machynlleth, make wonderful places to visit, as do the National Parks at Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons. The area also offers easy access to Offa's Dyke, steam railways and the stunning Cardigan Bay coastline - all under an hour's drive away.
