About this property

Nant Gwyn is a lovely, stone-built barn conversation, with lots of quaint and quirky charm, situated on the owners’ smallholding in a rural location, within driving distance of the pretty Powys village of Newbridge-on-Wye. This lovely cottage is surrounded by rolling countryside, yet within driving distance of bustling market towns and rural villages, ideal for a couple or small family in need of an away-from-it-all retreat. Upon arrival, you’re sure to receive a warm welcome from the variety of animals living on the land, including horses, pigs, sheep, turkeys, chickens, horses and dogs. Once inside the property you can feel the stresses and pressures of modern life melt away as you step back in time into a world of low ceilings, stone walls and characterful low beams. Downstairs there’s a rustic open plan living area with a kitchen and dining area, leading through into the sitting area with a warming woodburning stove. There’s also a cosy double bedroom benefitting from an en-suite wet room. Upstairs you’ll find a special little crog loft with twin beds and a sitting area, an ideal hideout for the children. Outside, you can sit in the enclosed patio garden, with splendid views across the fields, to the rolling green hills beyond, the perfect place to enjoy a family barbecue and relax after a day adventuring. The River Wye meanders through the valley, which opens up fantastic walking, fishing and canoeing opportunities, whilst the Cambrian Mountain uplands offer the chance to pony trek with loved ones, whilst marvelling at the majestic red kites as they soar through the sky. There are also some fabulous towns and villages just a short drive away, including the splendid villages of Rhayader and Llandrindod Wells, a former Victorian Spa town, hugely popular with cyclists and offering pretty parks to relax in and an interesting Victorian festival. For an excellent day out, pack a picnic, jump in the car and head for the Brecon Beacons National Park, a breathtaking natural space within which the children’s imaginations can run wild whilst you appreciate the stunning beauty of the rugged peaks and sloping valleys. No matter what it is you decide to do on your holiday, this cosy, traditional and rustic cottage is ideal for couples looking for a romantic getaway or a small family in need of a holiday to remember.

Rhayader is a small Welsh town with a selection of tea rooms, pubs, restaurants and shops, with the added bonus of a leisure centre and regular livestock marts. The annual Royal Welsh Show is just one of the attractions in nearby Builth Wells, where a great variety of exhibitions and sales are held all year round. The beautiful Elan Valley offers a wonderful variety of walks and cycle trails, as well as a visitor centre with cafe and children's play area.
