About this property

This timber-panelled loft above the former dairy on the owners' smallholding near Llanbister is ideal for country lovers, with excellent walking and birdwatching.

The Loft is ideal for country lovers, with excellent walking (Glyndwr's Way, waterfalls), birdwatching and animals on the farm. It's a timber-panelled first floor loft, accessed via an external wooden staircase, above the former dairy (now a workshop) on the owners' smallholding. Llugwy Farm is near the source of the River Lugg, 1.5 miles west of Llangunllo, which has a village pub; Llanbister is 5 miles away, Presteigne and Knighton are both 10 miles away.

The accommodation is approached via an external wooden staircase with storm porch. The property is heated primarily by a Scandinavian wood burning stove – full instructions provided! – with a couple of electric heaters to supplement. The Loft has some sloping ceilings, but good headroom, and once inside, the accommodation is all on one level.

Entrance: via the external staircase.

Kitchen Diner: with fitted units, tiled floor, LPG gas cooker, fridge freezer, microwave and extractor fan; table with four chairs; two stools if required for additional guests. An open doorway leads into the spacious bed-sitting room adjacent.

Bed-Sitting Room: with tiled floor, Scandinavian wood-burning stove, futon sofa, four folding chairs, pine bedroom suite including double bed, small Freeview TV and video player.

To the other side of the kitchen diner, a door leads into a second sleeping space:

Cabin Bunks: tiny bedroom space with built-in cabin bed and roll-out second bed below; these beds are only suitable for children. Tiled floor, fan heater.

Bathroom: Accessed via the cabin bunk bedroom. A well-presented bathroom with bath, WC, basin and heated towel rail. A shower hose is provided for use on the bath taps.

Utility: below The Loft is the owners’ workshop, including a shared laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer and shower. Separate WC and basin. There is also a small shop selling produce from the farm including jam and eggs and a free video library.

Outside: guests have a small grassed area to one side of the farm entrance, with picnic table and space to park in order to keep the car away from the farm animals if required! Guests can visit the farm, stables and fields (children must be supervised), to see sheep, goats, llamas, donkeys, ponies, ducks and hens! Adopt an Animal scheme run by the owners, who are happy to show guests around and allow them to learn about and help with work on the smallholding. Please note that there will be friendly pet dogs loose in the farmyard.

This is very much an off-grid experience (no mobile phone reception or internet), in a peaceful, rural location for outdoor living, exploring the 23 acres of riverside and farmland.

Nearby, there is local horse riding, motorcycling, rally driving, fishing and clay shooting, all within easy reach.

Pets are welcome and accommodation can be arranged for guests' own horses, by arrangement with the owners and at extra cost.

And and DI were so welcoming! They allowed our 2 year old to accompany them (with us) feeding the animals every day. He grew in confidence and really enjoyed it and we enjoyed it too. Beautiful setting in a peaceful valley with no internet / phone - idyllic!

We had a magical time. Thank you for your kindness & involving Elizabeth in all the farm work. It was her dream holiday. We will definitely be back next year!

We had a fantastic stay at Llugwy farm, which is set in breathtaking scenery in mid Wales. Our hosts Andy and Di were welcoming to both ourselves and especially our children who they took time to introduce the variety of animals on site. The children had a magical holiday and the accommodation was special - with the feel of a log cabin set high in the trees. Truly a special place to visit. 5 stars.
