The sitting room features a lovely wood burner, so if you're feeling chilly during the winter season, turn up the heat and get cosy on the deluxe leather sofas. You will be overwhelmed by the panoramic, picturesque views from the garden which features a barbecue and exceptionally large hot tub, so why not take a nice hot soak after a long day of country hiking before your evening meal, should you choose to dine indoors or out, you have the option. In Builth Wells, just a 10-minute drive away is the RWAS showground, home of the Royal Welsh Show, hosting other big public events all-year-round. The highlights are the Spring Festival held in May for smallholding, gardening and sustainable living enthusiasts and the Winter Fair, held in December which features livestock displays and a huge Christmas market. Hay-on-Wye is a 20 minute drive in the opposite direction which features historic sites, mountainous walks and many shops to visit. Pen Y Maes is of superb quality and professional finish throughout with lovely modern fixtures, an ideal holiday location, sitting just below the ruins of historical Aberedw Castle.

The market town of Builth Wells is located in the countryside and makes an interesting base for a Mid-Wales break. Home to craft stores and many collectors’ fairs, this is also the ideal location for walking, pony trekking and mountain biking. The town offers an 18-hole golf course, a sports centre, and the Wyeside Arts Centre, which includes a cinema as well as many live shows. Across the River Wye lies the Royal Welsh Showground, home to the famous Royal Welsh Show, which brings an explosion of colour to the town every July, along with many other events taking place throughout the year.

I do have to look hard to find any criticism, and the only thing I can think of which could be improved is the size of the towels provided for the hot tub! Just to note, if you are staying with large dogs, the wire fence between the garden and the surrounding sheep is only approx 1meter tall. Didn’t impact us at all as our dogs are good boys and would never attempt to get out, however, it could easily be cleared if your dog has that nature! We will certainly be back, and can’t wait to meet the overly friendly sheep again!! Thank you to the hosts for your fabulous facilities.

As always the bungalow was immaculately clean and every item you would need was thought of. It's like home from home. Our dog enjoyed staying too, there are walks from the garden which is good for dogs that are reactive to cars. Just be mindful of the sheep that graze there, so dogs must be on a lead. The garden is full of birds, many that we don't see at home. It would of been nice to have sat ours if The weather had been better. The hot tub was a bonus and seen to everyday, we never saw anyone come, they are that discrete. Thank you for a lovely break
