    About this property

A superb Abergavenny cottage in open countryside, lovingly created from the conversion of a barn on the owners' working sheep farm, on the outskirts of the hamlet of Llanddewi Skirrid, 3 miles from Abergavenny. Full of character, this cosy Abergavenny cottage retains many original beams, a large entrance hall, a spacious sitting room and a great games room with a pool table, Nintendo Wii and a piano. There are also two beautiful wooden spiral staircases, allowing one of the master bedrooms its own private access, adding to this Abergavenny cottage's charm. The hamlet's renowned restaurant, The Walnut Tree, offers a fine dining experience, and to work the food off, take scenic walks or cycle rides from the doorstep of this Abergavenny cottage. Spend a day in Abergavenny, or discover the region's abbeys, castles, museums and scenery. A terrific Abergavenny cottage for all the family.

Famous for The Walnut Tree restaurant, the small hamlet of Llanddewi Skirrid is set amidst stunning countryside. Overlooked by Skirrid Mountain, the village is also well placed for the Brecon Beacons National Park. With such impressive scenery, the region is packed with excellent walks and cycling routes whilst food-lovers will enjoy a trip to the Fox Hunter restaurant. Just three miles away is the market town of Abergavenny, set along the banks of the River Usk. This pretty town boasts a castle, museum, churches, and an indoor market hall in addition to good shops and a multitude of pubs and restaurants. "We loved the space and the comfort. The location is beautiful and very rural, yet just a few miles from Abergavenny, which is a lovely town. Overall another great holiday. Also are very easy to deal with with a very straightforward booking system. We have had to call the office a couple of times over the years and the staff are always very friendly and professional to deal with."

"The rooms are all very comfortable and well equipped. The games room is full of games, books, puzzles and wii games, invaluable for entertaining Kids on a wet day. There is even a piano and billiard table. Next time I will take my grandchildren! The location is a little off the beaten track but very well placed for visiting Abergavenny, the Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains and so much more. The bird life around the barn is a delight, as are the sheep!"

"From the kitchen with all need appliances to the comfort of the beds, every need is covered. If I could live here I would, the area is beautiful, the people in the town are friendly. There are lots of walks in the area, you do not need to travel far to keep yourself entertained. I can not recommend this property and the owners enough."

"The beds are very comfortable, the kitchen is fully equipped. Plenty to do in the area and surrounding areas, we found it very useful that a full range of pamphlets had been left for just this purpose. The farmer and his wife are close but not too close by, they are there if you need them but leave you to the peace and quiet of their farm. There is a Waitrose 15 minutes away which we made full use of. We would and plan to book this property again."
    Mr Van Oekel
"We walked to the top of the Skirrit from the cottage and visited some nearby castles. Perfect spot to enjoy the Brecon Beacons. Abergavenny close by, golfcourse near, lots of walking and cycling can be done. Everything could be reached within half an hour. And ofcourse we enjoyed watching Peter and the dog herding the sheep. Cottage is clean and cosy, the kitchen is well supplied. We hope to come back."

"Millbrook Farm is fantastic accomodation located down a country lane around the Llanddewi Rhyddech Region of Wales and is especially great for families. It has a fantastic setting on a rural property that is only 12 minutes from Abergavenny by car. The accomodation is fantastically clean, and very well appointed with great outdoor and indoor areas for kids and adults alike. I would highly recommend this facility for your next trip."

"This property was a lovely place to stay for a week near the Brecon Beacons. Plenty of space, yet homely with lots of rooms and well thought out touches e.g. piano, pool table, board games, other toys and plenty of books that kept the kids and adults entertained plus a well equipped kitchen. It is a barn so you will need to be mindful of the sloped ceilings and low beams in each room upstairs but this adds to its character. In addition to the lovely accommodation, there is a dedicated, flat, mini football pitch with balls and badminton racquets ready to use, beautiful views with sheep in the nearby fields, a friendly shire horse and sheepdog plus very helpful and lovely owners! Great rural location - you will need wellies, unless you are lucky enough to have no rain, as the barn is in a working farm at the bottom of a long farm track but not too far from plenty of places to visit. We enjoyed a muddy walk round the local area, a day at Cardiff Bay (Techniquest is great for kids of all ages), the Big Pit, LC waterpark in Swansea, boat hire along the canal at Brecon, a walk from the canal at Talybont-on-Usk to the reservoir and then round the nearby waterfalls. Many thanks to the owners (plus their grandson and his girlfriend) for taking the time and effort to make it such an enjoyable time for us all. Book it now!"
    Mr Michael Smith, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
"Millbrook Barn was an amazing place. The heated floors made it cosy and warm. It is very spacious and the games room kept the children and adults entertained."
    Mrs Julie Lester, Swindon, Wiltshire
"An amazing property and the hosts are very friendly! I loved everything about it and we will return."
    Mrs Samantha Cook, Gravesend, Kent
"An excellent homely cottage with great facilities. We had our 21 month old daughter with us and the cottage was perfect for her with stair gates provided and a clean high chair also. She was very safe and had a wonderful time watching the sheep, horses, cows, cats and dog. Would definitely recommend and would go again."
    Mrs Kate Morgan, London,
"We had a really great time, the property perfect for a family holiday the setting was beautiful with so much to see and do in the area. Overall the barn was well equipped with lots of thoughtful touches."
    Mr Frederick Davis-tilley, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
"It was a great property in a great location. The lovely living room and kitchen were easily big enough to accommodate the 7 of us on the holiday."
    Lauren C
"8 of us had the pleasure of a week at mill brook barn, when it came to the end of our stay I could of cried. I loved the barn and it's surroundings. We sat outside most mornings and watched the farm animals grazing. The barn was spotless and In such a wonderful location. You would definitely need a car to stay here but, if you don't mind paying for taxis then it would really be up to you. When we arrived at the barn we had fresh eggs and fruit bread awaiting us. The barn had such a lovely feel to it, I would recommend it 100% if you're looking for a countryside p/rural kind of holiday away from it all."

"In the narrow country lanes, not 10 minutes drive from Abergavenny, lies a hidden treasure. Millbrook Barn has been beautifully renovated and modernised with a large living room and kitchen (equipped with everything one would need) and 4 well proportioned bedrooms. We had 7 people stay, including one 8 year old and a 4 year old. There was space a plenty for all and the grounds were perfect for the children to run around safely and yet still experience the adventure of exploring a working farm. What made this so special though were the owners Brenda and Peter, a lovely couple who went out of their way to make sure my family and I were made to feel very welcome. Little touches such as the fresh eggs and the homemade cake made you feel at home and their warmness towards my son Jack and his cousin letting them feed the ducks and see the sheep being sheared was amazing. I would highly recommend Millbrook Barn to any family wanting quality time together. I know my family and I will be back as soon as we can."
    Mr Stephen Chambers, Cambridge,
"Millbrook Barn is in a lovely setting, very peaceful. Extremely well equipped and is a superb family retreat. "
    Mr Ben Burke-Davies, Sindlesham,
"A beautiful tranquil location and a lovely barn, the owners were very friendly and helpful. Had a very well equipped kitchen."
    Mr Tim Wood, Lingfield, Surrey
"What a super cottage - absolutely 5 star. Well located for the Bike Park Wales too."
    Mrs Sahaira Shah, Luton, Bedfordshire
"Brilliant, the owners were beautiful people, it was a chance to relax in a very homely place. Liked the game room and under floor heating, it was well equipped and had beautiful scenery."
    Mr Ben Walters, Shrewsbury, Shropshire
"It lived up to it's 5 star rating, excellent hosts and a nice touch of eggs and cake on arrival. "

"I rarely write reviews, but felt compelled to come and give Millbrook Barn the thumbs up as we enjoyed it so much. The barn was spotlessly clean and very welcoming with plenty of space including a lovely lounge area, ample kitchen and games room. If you want rural, this is it... complete quite with beautiful surroundings - and a 10 minute drive will take you to some amazing walking locations. There were lovely welcoming touches. A lovely cake on arrival, fresh eggs and one of the owners popping along to check we were okay. But that was pretty much the single time we saw anyone, so privacy and quietness are ensured. I can't say anything negative. The only warning I'd say is that two of the bedrooms are en-suite, and the other two have a bath but not a shower available to them. But we just shared our showers so there really was no issue. All in all, highly recommended - and after this hotels are just going to seem very mundane."

"A property that is really "off the beaten track" and " out of the ordinary". The barn conversion has been skilfully carried out to a high standard and is very well equipped and thought out. The games games room with small pool tale , Wii and board games delighted our three grandsons. They also loved the one-ton shire horse that lives on the adjoining farm! This is an ideal property for family get-togethers with out-door eating spaces and lovely views. The grandchildren are already asking to go back."

"We stayed at Millbrook barn with our daughter and son in law and our grandchildren. It was ideal for a multi generation holiday. Spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped. It was great having the playroom with toys to keep the grandchildren amused and there was plenty of room outside for playing ball games safely. The little ones loved having Jimmy the lamb come to play. The barn is situated in a peaceful location but within easy drive of Abergavenny. We enjoyed trips to Greenmeadow Farm, Raglan Castle, Monmouth and The Kymin."

"We had a lovely 4 days at Millbrook Barn earlier this year. It's off the beaten track and not easy to find, so double check your directions, but it's more than worth the effort to get there. It's not far from Abergavenny, which is a lovely town, and that means it's not far from attractions like castles, national parks or Cardiff if you want to visit the city. The cottage itself is spacious, well appointed with comfortable furniture. Also, one main bedroom is separate from the others, so you can have kids or guests at the other end of the house for some privacy. It's a great base location for seeing this region of south Wales."

"It was very quiet and peaceful. We were very pleased there was a full size proper cot rather than a fold out travel cot for our youngest, thank you."
    Mrs Carolyn Davies, Bristol, Gloucestershire
"The owners were extremely nice and very helpful and the barn was ideal for families. Being literally at the end of the road, it was so peaceful. It is definitely one to return to."
Mr Pat Doolan, Dublin 16, Ireland
"The house was lovely and had everything we needed, it was really comfortable and well equipped. The owners were nearby if we needed them but not intrusive which was the best of both worlds. A lovely quiet location. We had a great holiday."
    Mrs Isla Day, Colchester, Essex
"The cottage was quiet and peaceful with just the noise of the sheep close by. We loved the spacious living room with large areas of glass so it felt like being outside, inside. The pool table in the games room was fun at the end of the day. We were also blessed with fantastic weather!"
    Mr Philip Morton, Tarporley, Cheshire
"The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. A staggeringly beautiful area. We are looking to go again."
    Mrs H Hampshire, Ulverston,

    Mr Phil Heathcott, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
"The house was extremely comfortable and well equipped, including many items for indoor entertainment which we made good use of when the weather was bad. I particularly enjoyed beating all my companions on the pool table. The hosts were very welcoming, providing us with a freshly baked cake when we arrived and chicken and duck eggs."
    Mrs Diane James, Honeydew Manor,
"Millbrook barn was outstanding! Loads of room and comfort for a large group. Everything we could need was supplied. The farm was pristine and the owners of the barn were lovely people. They made us feel very welcome without intruding on our time. The fresh farm eggs and home made cake that was given to us when we arrived was a lovely touch. We stayed over the Christmas period and the barn had been decorated tastefully and there was even a Christmas tree. We couldn't have been more thrilled."
    Ms Claire Walker, Iver, Buckinghamshire
"Millbarn was extremely clean, welcoming, and had great facilities. We will be booking again soon."
    Mrs Lorna Morse, Perranporth, Cornwall
"Very comfortable, well appointed cottage. Ideal for a family with young children and grandparents."

"This was our third visit to Millbrook Barn - which really says it all! The barn itself has everything you could possibly need for a wonderful family holiday - loads of space, fantastic kitchen in which we fed 12 people with ease and a great games room, complete with billiard table and piano. Brenda and Peter are wonderful hosts and everything is taken care of, including fresh flowers, home baking and a supply of fresh eggs. The icing on the cake for our granddaughters was the presence of 4 tiny kittens just across from the barn. Can't recommend it highly enough"
    Miss Ritchens, Bristol, Somerset
"The barn was enormous, clean and had everything there you could possibly need! The owners went out of their way to be helpful. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Fantastic holiday!"
    Mrs Miles, Cheadle, Greater Manchester
"We had a wonderful welcome, and everything was in good order. The facilities were excellent throughout, and it was peaceful, and with beautiful scenery. We would love to visit again."
    Mr O'Brien, New Bern, Craven
"I do not know what the Tourist Board rating for this house is, but if it is not the highest rating then it is wrong! A great place with all the trimmings, and very nice and helpful owners. I would certainly recommend this property to family and friends!"

"Eight of us, five adults and three children, loved the week we spent in Millbrook Barn. Being Half Term, it rained almost non-stop, so we really appreciated everything the barn had to offer, and staying in such a luxurious place took the edge off our disappointment over the weather. The kids loved the farm cats, and the many amusements on offer in the Games Room. The adults enjoyed the comfort, the well equipped kitchen and the isolation, miles away from the nearest town. The owners have thought of everything, plus a little bit more. Millbrook Barn is well off the beaten track, and not easy to find first time round, but it's the perfect venue for a family break. If you stay there, make sure you visit the waterfalls above Talybont- quite beautiful! Also recommended is the pony trekking centre at Llanthony: www.llanthonyriding.co.uk"

"My familly and friends had christmas at millbroke barn. On arival christmas tree up cake on the table with a lovely note very clean warm and comfy. Kids loved the catS and horses and outside space to play. Although away from other properties close enough if you wanted a town. Perfect for us could not fault it"

"What a wonderful stay!! Unbelieveable comfort for two families with four children in total, but there was room for more!! Owners were so accomodating (thank you so much for your time, cake and basics). Great place to tour abergavenny and areas around...fanstatic places to walk, eat, enjoy. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Will definitely recommend to all our friends and family"

"If you want somewhere that is away from ia all, this is the place. other than the owners cottage the only neighbours you have are horses and sheep. Yet it is only 10 mins away from abergavanney - which is a lovely local town."

"Couldn't have been better - we were two families of 4 with kids from 9 to 14. Everyone loved the cottage. Big enough that we all had space (kids in the "games room" most of the time) but not so big that you felt you were knocking around in a warehouse. All mod-cons, comfortable - could not fault it. Views lovely, Abergavenny 5 minutes away, walks from the doorstep or down the road - easy access to M4 etc. Owners an absolute delight - friendly, welcoming, helpful but not in the slightest intrusive. One caveat for families with small children is that one of the two master bedrooms is up a different set of stairs from the other three bedrooms, fine for us but maybe not if you have younger children..."
