About this property

Capel Mawr is an impressive and stunning apartment forming part of a converted chapel in the centre of the village of Llanrug, which is situated in the foothills of the Snowdonia Mountain Range, only three miles from Llanberis. This stunning property is perfect if you’re looking for something a little bit different, somewhere to celebrate that special birthday or anniversary perhaps? Or just a great base to get together with friends and family to discover and experience the beautiful Snowdonia National Park, stunning mountains and scenery and the superb coastlines this area has to offer. This magnificent property has an elegant ground floor entrance with two large glazed double doors opening into the entrance vestibule which immediately gives you the feeling of space. The two original staircases sweeping to the left and right, one of which leads up to the magnificent first floor apartment, and is just a taster of what’s to come! Upstairs the unique circular open plan living area is immense and naturally divided into three areas, a wonderful sitting area, kitchen area and a dining area on a mezzanine platform, this is a wonderful space for socialising. Capel Mawr has been lovingly restored by its current owner, and has been a true labour of love with so many original features and attributes skilfully restored with other parts of the chapel being adapted to form integral parts of the property. You are immediately drawn to the beautiful ceiling painted in pastel shades to emphasise the ornate coved ceiling with central roses and cornices, all enhanced with spot lighting. The sitting area is so relaxing and comfortable, perfect for chilling out after a long day walking on the mountains. The dining area, on a raised exposed timber mezzanine provides the perfect place for a more formal dining experience and is dominated by a massive circular window, and to the left and right hand side of the dining area a small flight of stairs lead down to a lower, more discreet seating area providing a nice little hideaway for you to enjoy some quiet time to reflect. The kitchen area is very much in keeping with the original building where further parts of the chapel have been utilised to create a bespoke kitchen. Everything you could possibly need is catered for and the large pitch pine island and breakfast bar with stools provides a less formal place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast or late supper over a bottle of wine and reminisce over the day’s adventures. Three spacious bedrooms, two double rooms and a twin room, plus the family bathroom all radiate off the living accommodation. Each bedroom is tastefully furnished and individually styled and all feature the original arched windows. The main bedroom benefits from having a feature sink in a carved ornate surround and a double door leads through to a dressing room with full length wardrobes and a sofa bed, lending a little more flexibility to the sleeping arrangements and accommodation. The bathroom is beautifully appointed with a modern roll-top bath on clawed feet, perfect for a long relaxing soak after a long day out walking; nothing like it to ease away those aches, there is a separate shower cubicle and washbasin inset into the original chapel pulpit. Outside there is a crushed gravel area providing parking for 3 cars and a raised decked seating area and summerhouse, ideal for sitting out after a busy day and relaxing with a glass of something chilled. Just a short stroll from this apartment are two village pubs, both serve meals and there are walks in abundance. Llanberis is just three miles away and offers an array of shops, Electric Mountain which is well worth a visit, plus there are numerous watersports on the lake, as well as it being one of the main starting points for hiking up to the summit of Snowdon. Fancy something a little less strenuous then take the train instead, or jump on the narrow gauge steam railway that runs the length of Llyn Padarn and enjoy a five-mile return trip taking in some wonderful scenery on the way. Slightly further afield, why not visit the town of Caernarfon with its historic and majestic castle and the Isle of Anglesey is just waiting to be discovered? Whatever you fancy doing there is something for everyone and Capel Mawr provides a wonderful base from which to explore from and is a very special place to spend some quality time with friends and family. This beautiful property will have you wanting to return time and time again.

Situated in the foothills of the Snowdonia Mountain Range, Llanrug is a small village with two pubs and a shop just three miles from the famous town of Llanberis. Popular amongst walkers, this tranquil settlement is set beneath the Snowdon Massif and flanked by the Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris lakes. As one of the most popular mountain tourist centres in the Snowdonia National Park, Llanberis is an ideal spot for walkers and climbers to gather, particularly during the annual Snowdon marathon. For the less energetic holidaymaker, trains travel to the summit at regular intervals giving those unable to climb to the peak a chance to enjoy the incredible views. Back in the town itself there are a number of excellent places to eat and drink as well as a great choice of shops.

Derek , the owner was very approachable when we told him the TV wasn't working he didn't hesitate in coming to fix it. One very minor niggle, there was no hair dryer. It doesn't say there is one in the description of the property but normally everywhere we stay has at least one. We would definitely recommend capel mawr to everyone. Debs.

Huge kitchen and bedrooms. Very comfortable. Plenty of parking. Great location. Owner very friendly. There is no deck & summerhouse as in the description but we didn't need it anyway.

The only downside is that the kitchen lacked a few utensils such as a jug (if there is one we couldn't find it) and we could only find one cloth to wipe the sides with after cooking. The bathroom is lovely but it's a shame there is only one bathroom, with there being 6 of us and one bathroom was the only downside, overall though this is a beautiful place to stay.
