About this property

A delightful mid-terrace character cottage located in the small picturesque Welsh village of Llan Ffestiniog in the stunning Snowdonia National Park, three miles from the historic slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Lovingly restored and maintained to a very good standard, Dolwar is deceptively spacious and offers generous accommodation over four levels. Providing the perfect base for exploring this wild and rugged part of North Wales this cottage will suit couples and friends, keen walkers, cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts. The cottage exudes warmth and charm with some lovely original and character features, such as exposed beams, stripped pine doors, slate flooring, and the decorative feature cast iron fireplaces and old cooking range, exposed lintels and deep window sills but not least of all, the superb addition of the central bespoke Italian spiral staircase which connects all the floors and makes this delightful cottage really stand out from the crowd! This extraordinary ‘centre piece’ naturally divides each floor, starting on the lower ground floor with a modern, fitted and well-equipped kitchen extending to a charming dining area. The ground floor has a sitting room with a comfortable sitting area with TV and views across the surrounding countryside at the rear and a more intimate sitting area to the front, an ideal place to simply relax and unwind. There are two first floor bedrooms, both with the original cast iron fireplaces and grates, one benefitting from a king-size double bed and the other from the double bed with some wonderful views. The second floor opens directly onto a landing area which makes an ideal area to sit and enjoy some peace and quiet, perhaps reflect or finish that book you started! The bathroom with the benefit of a dormer window and the corner bath is the perfect place to soothe away those aches after a day on the mountains. Outside, accessed from the lower ground floor, the rear cottage garden enjoys the morning sun and the seating area is the ideal place to plan the day ahead over a morning cup of coffee. The village facilities are all within walking distance; the village pub serves food and offers a warm Welsh welcome and a good selection of wine and real ales. There are some wonderful walks from the cottage and numerous lakes and waterfalls to discover. The popular town of Blaenau Ffestiniog is just 3 miles away, and the whole area is steeped in heritage and history as it is famed for its slate quarry and the Ffestiniog narrow gauge steam railway which links it with the seaside town of Porthmadog, 13.5 miles away. The little museum in Blaenau is worth visiting to learn more about the heritage and its bygone era. More adventurous attractions at Blaenau Ffestiniog are the renowned Zip World Titan, Bounce Below and Zip Caverns, a subterranean system of trampolines and zip wires deep underground. Also Antur Stiniog, the mountain bike downhill run and organisation and Surf Snowdonia are within reach. The beautiful North Wales coastline and many wonderful sandy beaches are only a short drive away whilst Betws-y-Coed, the Italianate village of Portmeirion, Bodnant Gardens, and Mount Snowdon itself are all within easy reach. This wonderful character cottage is an ideal base for exploring the area and is sure to delight at any time of the year.

The old slate quarrying village of Llan Ffestiniog quietly rests close to the impressive Manod and Moelwyn Mountains, near the centre of Snowdonia National Park. Nearby Blaenau Ffestiniog, once the world's capital of slate quarrying and in the 19th century known as the 'City of Slate', offers a range of shops and pubs, whilst the surrounding area boasts a variety of things to see and do. Take a tour around Llechwedd Slate Cavern, enjoy a ride on the famous Ffestiniog Railway or simply take some time to admire the stunning mountainous views available from all aspects.
