Llanrug is a small village with two pubs, two shops, a Post Office, a hotel with indoor swimming pool and fitness room, and a 9 hole golf course is nearby. The village is situated in the foothills of the Snowdonia Mountain Range, only 3 miles from famous Llanberis. Dominated by the grandeur of the Snowdon Massif, Llanberis is flanked by two lakes, Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris, and is one of the most popular mountain tourist centres in the Snowdonia National Park. Llanberis is something of a 'mecca' for walkers and climbers, being the starting point for the ascent of Snowdon - the highest mountain in Wales. The ascent can be made either by train, on the Snowdonia Mountain Railway, or on foot along one of the many routes to the summit. Llanberis boasts excellent places to eat and drink and a great choice of shopping. Just 4 miles from Llanrug, on the coast, is Caernarfon with its magnificent 13th century castle and town walls and close by are National Trust properties at Penrhyn and Plas Newydd and many wonderful beaches.

We didn’t find the road to be a problem, and the parking was also fine (room to turn around for our normal-sized car). However, there were lots of niggles. • We arrived to a cold house (and the strip blinds on the windows didn’t help to keep the cold out). The storage heaters were all turned off, and they took a whole day to start giving out heat. It was difficult to understand how they worked, and we had to turn the bedroom ones off because they came on at night. • There was no welcome pack or written information/instructions for anything in the house. • The reed diffusers in the bedroom were furry with grey mould. One of the bedrooms also smelled of damp. • The soft furnishings smelled unpleasant; the cushions need washing and the sofa and armchair need a deep clean. • The double beds were saggy and uncomfortable. They both had mattress-toppers, but that didn’t help with the sagginess or the noise made whenever we moved; we ended up sleeping in separate rooms. • Two of the four bedside lamps didn’t work, and one of the working ones was constantly flickering. • There was somebody’s leftover mouldy coffee in the coffee machine, and a dog-ball behind the armchair – which suggested that the cleaning wasn’t very thorough. Overall I felt the place was sadly neglected and, as an earlier reviewer commented, unloved.

We had a comfortable stay but looking a bit tired, could do with a bit of TLC! Damp patch in living room could easily be painted over. Grass very long, desperately needed cutting.

The location is perfect to discover the Wales (Snowdonia off the LlÅ·n peninsula). We miss a washmachine (for the regio, it should be usefull). For the rest, we had all what we need. For me the narrow lane was terrific but my man had no problem with that.
