Set aback from the harbour at the Port of Ness, on the wild Isle of Lewis, this detached cottage rests among a few others with views and plenty of space for two. This is a place for couples to get away and find peace spotting whales and dolphins on a wildlife adventure. Stone-built and all on the ground floor, the interior is presented to a good standard, with a traditional feel. Light pours through the windows, framing wonderful views stretching towards open fields and craggy coastline. The kitchen is modern and well-appointed, whilst the sitting room boasts a cosy spot for relaxing. When the evening draws closer, you have a lovely double room to retire to, with solid wood furnishings and floral print on one wall. The tiled bathroom offers guests the luxury of a warm soak in the bath or a refreshing shower to wake up to each morning. Explore the magical land enveloping the cottage with historic and archaeological sites, including the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse hosted by crashing waves, wild grassland and views across the Atlantic. Absorb the stunning scenery here at the island's northernmost point. Stornoway is within driving distance with shops, pubs and restaurants, along with a golf course and art galleries. Take a day trip to discover all the town has to offer, visit Lews Castle and explore the pretty castle grounds. This property is ideal for those wishing to cycle the Hebridean Way from the north to the south of the Outer Hebrides. Bring your bikes and walking boots and use this cosy base, at either the start or end of the route, a charming couple's nest to retreat.
The Port of Ness rests at the northern tip of the Isle of Lewis. Harbour View Gallery is where you will find some of locally-based artist Anthony J Barber's works on view. Cross boasts an inn that looks slightly out of place, along with one of the most cheerful looking post offices you'll find anywhere. From the nearby Butt of Lewis you can look out across the Atlantic and stand in the shadow of a Stevenson lighthouse built of red brick. Discover Dùn Èistean, an archaeological site on the north east coast. Stornoway is just 40 minutes away by car, with a working harbour, shops selling local gifts including Harris Tweed and award-winning restaurants selling locally sourced food.
