About this property

A cosy, detached cottage nestled within the grounds of the owners' guest house on the outskirts of Jedburgh in the beautiful Scottish Borders. Originally the stable block, this cottage has been thoughtfully converted to provide comfortable accommodation for a couple wishing to explore this popular part of Scotland. The ground floor of the spacious interior features contemporary open-plan living accommodation with a kitchen, dining area and comfortable sitting area, along with French doors opening out onto a lovely courtyard. Here, you can sit out at the table with a glass of wine or a chilled beer and enjoy the open outlook across the hills. Resting within the owners' grounds with flourishing gardens for the guest house adjacent are a pleasant place to unwind. A short walk down the hill brings you into the pleasant town of Jedburgh. Only ten miles from the English border and famed for its abbey and its substantial ruins which dominate the town, Jedburgh is also home to Mary, Queen of Scots' house and Jedburgh Castle Jail, now a museum which you can explore at your own leisure. With Jed Water, a tributary of the Teviot, and circular walks easily accessed from your front door, there is something for everyone at this delightful cottage. EPC Rating: Band G

Shower not used as wooden shower board looked too unhygienic to stand on. Details suggest "fully equipped kitchen" but no baking dishes, no vegetable peeler, no cheese grater. Great location, reasonably comfortable accommodation let down by poor general maintenance and the lack of any personal contact

The fridge didn't work, and when we realised, after a couple of days, we had to throw away food and milk that had gone off. We contacted the owner and he adjusted the fridge temperature, but that was ineffective! The only coolness in the fridge was simply because the freezer compartment door was broken and it wouldn't shut, hence we had unfrozen peas in there. The bottom of the fridge and the towel rail were both rusty too. There were several light bulbs not working in the property - we phoned and left a message asking for them to be replaced, and had no response from the property owners whatsoever, despite them running a guest house next door. We were surprised to find that the kettle, toaster and combined microwave/oven were all running off the same extension lead, which we considered unsafe and therefore had to make sure we didn't use them at the same time. There were broken ornaments on display, and a broken (removed, but fittings still in the wall) shelf in the bathroom. So overall, not a particularly pleasant stay. We actually decided to come home a day early.

Gorgeous setting in the Allerton House grounds. Wonderful place so close to the town centre & the dogs loved the river walks nearby. Highly recommend The Stables and loved our stay so much & we will definitely be back.
