About this property

The property is a privately owned Scottish castle that uniquely combines private home and exclusive use luxury venues. The castle has full licensing as a wedding venue and is equally suitable for corporate events, private stays and parties.

This historic 14th century castle is situated in the heart of the rolling hills, fields and trees of the beautiful Scottish Borders on the edge of a little market town. The castle itself is totally secluded in 1200 acres of grounds, yet conveniently, shops, bars and restaurants are within walking distance.

The family have owned the Castle since 1696, and along with their dedicated staff welcome guests to their home, which retains a very intimate and personal feel in spite of its historic grandeur and furnishings. The main Castle sleeps up to 23.

Groups of up to 60 may be seated to dine in the great hall. There are ample grounds for marquees, sporting and leisure activities.

The castle is superbly set within a 1,200 acre estate in the Idyllic borders town of Duns, just half an hour's drive from sandy beaches, and is perfectly positioned to make the most of a holiday in Scotland's Border country.

From Duns and C14th Private Castle, the sea is about 16 miles away at the ancient fortified town and fishing port of Berwick-Upon-Tweed. The Tweed is one of Scotland's premier salmon rivers. Close by are the old fishing villages of Eyemouth, Cove, and Coldingham. The shore at Berwick is predominantly rocky but north of the pier at Spittal is a sandy beach sheltered from the strong tidal currents by an offshore reef. In shore, between the reef and the beach, there is safe bathing.

An hour's drive to the north-east of the Castle lies Edinburgh with its fine shops, magnificent architecture, fascinating museums and many good restaurants and bars. The ancient abbey towns of Kelso, Melrose and Jedburgh are within easy driving distance, and there are several well-known East Coast golf courses in the vicinity - the nearest in the town itself, which has an 18 hole course as well as tennis, a swimming pool and a sports centre.
