    About this property

Set in a rural location, this property has sea views and has a number of attractions closeby.
This detached, former fisherman/crofter’s cottage has been tastefully restored to provide very comfortable holiday accommodation. Being nestled in this beautiful area does mean there is no Wi-Fi available in the cottage but it is available in some of the local hotels. The property overlooks the Kyles of Tongue, a dramatic expanse of pristine golden sand, and the many skerries that create this fabulous coastline. The ever-changing seascape and light make this area a truly get-away-from-it-all holiday experience. The area has much to offer, with Ben Hope and Ben Loyal for the serious climber and low level coastal walks. Smoo Cave, Castle of Mey, the former home of the late Queen Mother, Cape Wrath and a day trip from John O’Groats to the Orkney Isles are within a short drive. Loch and sea fishing are available, and a wide range of seabirds, such as puffins, waders and hen harriers can be easily spotted. Shop 500 yards, pub and restaurant 50 yards.
Ground floor: Living room. Dining room/kitchen with tiled floor. Study. Shower room with toilet. First floor: 1 double bedroom.
Multi-fuel burner in living room (initial fuel included). Electric heaters and electricity by meter reading. Oil central heating (controlled by owner), bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. DVD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washer/dryer. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Small garden with sitting-out area. Parking (2 cars). No smoking.

"A very nicely modernised cottage, well equipped, nice decoration. Lovely views. Convenient for local hotel, Craggan Inn. Shops and other eating options in Tongue short drive away."

"Fab. Even food at hotel nearby was the best we found"

"A lovely setting but very remote, be prepared to shop in tiny stores & ensure you have enough petrol! The cottage was spotless and comfortable with all the facilities we needed, but the TV only got 13 channels ( no BBC) and this was unwatchable whenever there was any wind. We commented at the time but there wasn't an easy solution. There is no radio as this would be from the TV. There is a very limited choice of DVD there."

"Stunning outlook. Carefully chosen decor. Our early enthusiasm was soon dampened when the heating came on and increased the musty smell in the sitting room. Later, having lit the stove, using the 3 logs provided, the mould smell became overwhelming. Anyone with a sensitivity to mould spores, take heed. We were unable to use this room. There is a shop at Talmine, and 2 shops at Tongue. Tongue Spar shop sells fuel, but closed Sat afternoon. Fresh fish van from Scrabster visits these shops Wed lunchtimes. Might be wise to have supplies to last 'til Monday. We would have appreciated some local interest books and leaflets, and useful local info. Take slippers or indoor shoes. The tiled kitchen floor is chilling! The staircase is steep and awkward. Not ideal to negotiate in the night to use the downstairs bathroom. No access to the upstairs bathroom."

"This cottage is in a stunning location. It is stylishly and comfortably furnished and decorated. However it is seriously let down but the failure to enable guests to control the heating. The options were heating on all the time or for two hours morning and night, times predetermined by owner. Convector heaters were available in all rooms but they detracted from the appearance of the rooms. Lack of adequate heating in the bathroom meant towels needed to be hung on living room radiators to dry. The promised basket of logs contained about three logs and the wood burner is too small to be effective. Having to read the meter and pay for all electricity used in the week is an outdated practice. It was also annoying to have to come downstairs to the bathroom in the night when there is a bathroom upstairs that guests do not have access to. To be an upmarket property, as this one should be, someone needs to work out an all inclusive price that leaves guests free to enjoy the holiday in comfort."

"This is a lovely stone built cottage that has been upgraded and modernised whist keeping the original charm and character of the building. We stayed over Christmas and we could not have asked for a better cottage (or location) for our festive break. The kitchen has been fully modernised with top of the range appliances and plenty of space to chat and linger over food. I also noted there are plenty of dishes which made us quite lazy with the washing up even with a dishwasher! Another small but important point for me was the Fairy washing up liquid provided was indeed Fairy (small point but important!).We were left with a decent supply of logs and kindling, as an initial supply of logs it was plentiful and of good quality. A new boiler has been installed and the cottage was warm and toasty, on occasion we had to turn the heating down as it was so hot! The bedroom was furnished to a high standard (the bed did let it down as it was uncomfortable) with plenty of drawer and hanging space. The area is spectacular, well worth the drive for the scenery alone. The local hotel was closed over Christmas and only opened up on our last day so I can't comment on the quality of the food but if it's anything like the welcome we receive from the owners it will be lovely! Another surprise came when we visited the local shop, my expectation of small shop with limited supplies could not have been more wrong, a local butcher and smokehouse supply the shop so we dined on the finest smoked salmon and sirloin steaks - not what I was expecting at all.Overall we had a great time, the cottage is lovely and the owner helpful - we could not have asked for more."
