An ideal spot for a romantic escape to a quiet location, Brewery Lane is located in the attractive East Lothian village of Belhaven. This terraced single-storey cottage dates back to the 18th century and was likely one of the cottages for the Belhaven Brewery. Decorated to a good standard and maintaining character and charm, guests will find a welcoming, cosy cottage. A perfect retreat with the benefit of a small garden where you can enjoy a pre-dinner drink, and in season there are herbs to enhance your cooking.

From the doorstep you are just a short walk away from the beautiful sandy beaches at Belhaven Bay offering splendid views over the Forth Estuary, ideal for gentle walks and sunbathing, or pack a picnic and spend the day exploring the sand dunes and grasslands. The bay is well known for surfing and recreational activities, and for beginners there are local companies offering lessons and equipment hire. This area is part of the John Muir Country Park with miles of pathways to follow, and a clifftop walk to Dunbar, passing the harbour and ruined castle, offers coastal views.

Just a few minutes’ drive away is Dunbar with a traditional high street with a local baker, fishmonger and butcher as well as supermarkets, local shops and galleries. There are also plenty of places to eat or find refreshments. The town has a picturesque working harbour where you can watch daily activities and the local boats unloading their catch.

The village of Belhaven is well known for its brewery which is the oldest working brewery in Scotland. It offers tours and a chance to sample the products, and as the cottage is only a few minutes’ walk away you will be able to take full advantage of this. Glenkinchie Whisky Distillery is in the area if you would like to see how Scotland’s national drink is made, which also offers tours and sampling. East Lothian has a great choice of golf courses in lovely locations, there are three local courses in the immediate area for guests who enjoy a round of golf on their holidays.

For a day out, the capital city of Edinburgh is only 30 miles away and there is a regular train service from Dunbar to the city centre, taking only 20 minutes, so you can enjoy the city without having to look for a parking space! This makes Brewery Lane a great base for visiting the Edinburgh Festival, the Royal Military Tattoo or just exploring the city. After a busy day you will then be able to return to this quiet and peaceful little cottage in Belhaven village. Beach ¼ mile. Shop and restaurant 300 yards, pub 500 yards.

Just spent the New Year weekend at this lovely cosy cottage, everything was perfect. Fantastic location for going on long walks. The dogs, my husband and I had a fabulous relaxing time here. Thoroughly recommend this property.

The cottage is very rustic. Half glazed front door with clear glass looks straight onto bathroom door so passers by can see when you go to and from the bathroom.Odd mechanism to operate drain plug in bathroom sink, needed to contact owner to get to know how to use.Had to clean the cooker hob before we could use it as the burners were clogged with grease. The heating system was on a time clock and out of our control which meant we were unable to get any rooms warm enough when needed. Plenty of hot water though at any time of day or night. The double bed is very low, about 12 inches high off the floor, but comfortable.Annoying three steps up into the kitchen area from the dining/living room.

Excellent location, really comfortable accommodation for a couple. Lots of walks and golf on the doorstep. We’ll visit again soon.
