"The cottage is lovely, cosy, well equipped, the beds in twin room very comfortable, also the end bedroom, the middle bedroom not so much. The extension is lovely, the lounge suite is dreadful. The garden is nice but not fully dog friendly as one of our dogs got out and onto the main road so that she could have been killed as the road is fast."

"Enjoyed our stay here soo much, the location was fantastic and the cottage excellent."

"Lovely quiet spot in the middle of the countryside. Excellent for discovering the Solway Coast and only 14 minutes drive away from Dumfries. Good Wi-Fi connection. Spent most of the time we were at the cottage in the kitchen/diner as we had the patio doors open to appreciate the fields around us. Only about half a mile from Caerlaverock Castle and the Wetland Centre. Came back very relaxed after our time away."

"Wonderful location with terrific views but my overall feeling was disappointment. Advertised as a dog friendly cottage with secure garden I found that the laminate / tile flooring throughout cottage was NOT ideal for my two greyhounds; even just getting to their feet was difficult and we had a couple of incidents with splayed legs causing pain and distress. The front garden fencing was incomplete so we couldn't sit outside in the sunshine without dogs being on harness & leads. There were cobwebs everywhere when we arrived (all windows were festooned with webs) and the second bathroom /utility room had black mould /damp on the wall (unsightly and smelly), a cracked shower tray and very dis-coloured mastic seal. Having stayed at a lot of places in England & Wales - this was our first cottage in Scotland and I was surprised and disappointed that this was the only place without a basic arrival /welcome pack (a carton of milk for first cup of tea, little pack of local biscuits etc) Whilst not essential it is always a nice touch so that your first task isn't trying to find a local shop to get essentials (nearest was in Dumfries itself 7 miles away)."

"Excellent location with good connection to DumfriesCleanliness is good. Good facilities in the cottage.Fire place a bit smokey flue may have been leaking. Complimentary wood was too big for fire place so never benefited from that and Wi-fi could be better."

"We loved our week at Bankswood Cottage and are talking about booking to stay there again. There was everything we needed both in the cottage and in the surrounding area. As you'd expect the internet was occasionally a little slow but that didn't bother us. After all, we'd come away to rest and relax. If I were being picky then there were a few small things. Logs for the fire were too big to fit in the burner (the cottage has amazing central heating so we were warm) so an axe or saw might have been useful. We visited in November and we were toasty with the heating on. I really wanted to recycle our waste. I know the owners don't control the local area rules on recycling but it just felt wrong to not recycle. That said, the cottage was lovely. Calming with beautiful views. The nature reserve was fab for walking our dogs. The beaches we visited (we went in November) were empty and the dogs loved them. The Boathouse in Glencaple do amazing food (and takeaway) with a small shop. Caerlaverock Castle is well worth a visit (they have a play area and climbing frame if you have children). For shopping, Dumfries is a short car journey and you'd find everything you wanted there.Safe to say we'll be back again!"

"We really enjoyed our stay there are only a couple of things that would've made it excellent:a comfier settee in the living room, it had seen better days:more wood for the fire, we had to buy some as there was only enough for one evening:recycling bins, we took our recycling home! The owners were friendly and quick to sort out a wee problem with the hob in the kitchen. The house was warm, relaxing and we enjoyed our stay."

"Wonderful cottage and the kitchen is great ... garden not fully secure for thd dogs but we tried to resolve that with a makeshift log fence It was lovelly weather whilst we were there and we loved every minute of the stayWe would love to go back"
