Southerness is a small coastal village established in the late 18th century, which looks out over the Solway Firth, and forms part of the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera'. Home to two pubs, a village store, a leisure centre with a pool and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools and Gulf Stream warmed waters, and one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland, built in 1748, it has everything you will need for a relaxing holiday. The nearby Criffel Hill rises to 569m, offers wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary below, and provides great walking opportunities. The Southerness Championship Golf Course adjoins the village and offers panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District to the south and the Galloway Hills to the west. A great location, with something to keep everybody occupied.

It is very comfortable and has every cooking equipment you need. Its location is ideal for visits throughout Dumfries and Galloway and wherever you travel, it's lovely to return to Simmer Dim. Having stayed in many holiday cottages, this is one of the finest and I can recommend it to all.

We had fantastic weather and enjoyed using the outside (very private) patio area with ample tables and chairs. The views from here of the surrounding fields and hills is wonderful. A lovely feature of the cottage is the kitchen/diner/family room extension which is bright airy and again has great views of the countryside. A very enjoyable stay yet again.

In some eyes the limited room in the ensuite/bathroom and limited headroom in main bedroom upstairs might be perceived as a problem, but to be honest you spend most of your time downstairs and the kitchen/conservatory and living room had plenty of room. The views from the upstairs bedroom were also terrific (and also from the kitchen). We loved it.
