Southerness is a small coastal village established in the late 18th century, which looks out over the Solway Firth, and forms part of the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera'. Home to two pubs, a village store, a leisure centre with a pool and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools and Gulf Stream warmed waters, and one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland, built in 1748, it has everything you will need for a relaxing holiday. The nearby Criffel Hill rises to 569m, offers wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary below, and provides great walking opportunities. The Southerness Championship Golf Course adjoins the village and offers panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District to the south and the Galloway Hills to the west. A great location, with something to keep everybody occupied.

Couple of small observations, there wasn't much in the way of information for things at the cottage. Eg there was a laminated sheet saying to check the hot tub and treat accordingly but it would be really helpful if it was printed out and instructions on how to test the water and which solutions to put in and what quantity. Instead we had to get everything out of the cupboard, read the manual, read all the tiny writing on the test strip bottle and all the solutions and try work out what to do. Then the filter packed in on the 2nd to last day. There was a spare filter in the cupboard but again we would have had to read the manual and work out how to do that. Shower bunged up a bit and the tray filled up with water. Shower head was quite loose and kept sliding down. Overall though we had a great holiday and loved it, we will definitely be back!

Would recommend a leaflet on how you sort out heating as it kept coming on at night. If there was a instruction leaflet I couldn't find it. Lovely welcome pack. As it's pet friendly would be a nice touch to have some dog biscuits available. Overall xannot fault the property at all, highly recommend.

The views out onto the beach are stunning. It's really big inside although doesn't look it from seeing it outside. We really appreciated the treat basket! We will definitely be booking again :)
