A warm welcome from the owners and the cosy open fire await you at this cottage. Located in the rolling countryside of the Dumfries and Galloway, within 10 minutes of the Solway Coast, Dairy Cottage, is on a working farm, the owners are happy to show you round and introduce you to farming life, the children will love meeting the animals.
The working farm is hidden away 5 minutes from the motorway near Annan making it an ideal base from which to enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside without having to travel for miles to find it. The area is steeped in history and within a short drive you can visit the Old Blacksmith’s Shop at Gretna, famed for its weddings, Robert Burns House, Hadrian’s Wall, Hermitage Castle, Caerlaverock Castle and Sweetheart Abbey. Nearby Dumfries has a large swimming pool ideal for rainy days.
The 310 acre farm is home to a herd of Highland cattle, Highland ponies, a Gloucester old spot pig, Tottie the mini pig, sheep and chickens. As the farm has won the rspb Nature of Farming award for Scotland for faming and conservation there are opportunities to learn about the diversity of the farm and its wildlife habitats either from the owners or rangers, the bird life is fantastic and a haven for photographers. Walk around the farm and meet the animals, help if you like, or explore the Scottish countryside with walks and cycle ways for all to enjoy. Mountain biking at Ae Forest or Seven Stanes are all very accessible from the cottages.
New a children’s play complete with a pet area with miniature animals to pet all day if you like and picnic tables, access is free and unlimited for guests.
If nature and photography are more your thing then there is a fenced off walk around the farm. On this walk you can see all the new animals out in the fields, take photographs and spot the many birds and wild animals the owners have attracted through our award winning conservation work.
If you are a horse rider enjoy a ride around the farm, maybe stop for a picnic at the top of the farm, where you can see the coast and the Isle of Man on a clear day. Should you wish to bring your own horse, the owners can accommodate that, please ask at the time of booking.
There are 4 cottages located on the farm, all furnished and equipped to a high standard. Each cottage has a cosy open fire or log burning stove for cosy winter evenings and a garden to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside. The owners are happy to introduce you to farm life and by arrangement will give you a tour of the farm where you can enjoy the local birds and wildlife, fish on the private lake or go horse riding.
The cottage has oil fired central heating and comprises:Lounge with open fire, TV, DVD and CD players.
Kitchen/diner with electric oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, washing machine and microwave.
Double bedroom.
Small single bedroom with Z bed ideal for 1 adult or 2 children.
Bathroom with shower over bath, hand basin and WC.All oil, electric, logs, bed linen and towels provided.
Cot, highchair, baby bath and Wi-Fi available.
Ample private parking.
The owners are happy for you to use their garden, summer house and barbeque.
