" Just returned from our 3rd weeks holiday this year at Safe Harbour Cottage. This is a great place to visit if you want to just relax and get away from it all and we usually come here in the off season when it's quiet. We like this cottage because of it's location and our 2 dog's think it's their 2nd home now. They settle in front of the fire at night and won't shift unless it's their food time. They're totally chilled out. We got a perfect phone signal in the cottage this time too which was non existent in March this year but you can usually get a signal down by the harbour anyway. It's no bad thing though to be away from the phone sometimes. Wi-Fi is very good and also good in the 2 village pubs . The cottage is like home from home, no frills, just a really nice place and it's really warm due to the storage heaters which are on all the time. There's a house up the street from the harbour that sells logs and coal etc @ £5 a bag plus new laid eggs and he'll drop them off for no extra charge. I've seen a couple of negative reviews for the cottage and am wondering if the visitors were expecting a 5 star hotel instead of a quaint seaside cottage. We had a problem with the oven and the electronic door lock and Keith who looks after the cottage for the owner came out and sorted problems straight away. Top bloke. Really enjoyed our holiday and will be back next year. "

"Windows were moldy and dirty. Toilet you had to flush about 3or 4 times and made a noise everytime it was used We have been coming to Staithes for the past 10 years and this cottage was the most expensive and the worst one we have stayed in"

"All this was badly let down by the cheap foam "mattress" on the master bed that was thin, worn and really uncomfortable - not suitable on a slatted base and way below the quality of everything else."

"Lovely, very well equipped cottage in a convenient location close to pubs, cafes and beach. All this was badly let down by the cheap foam "mattress" on the master bed that was thin, worn and really uncomfortable - not suitable on a slatted base and way below the quality of everything else."

"It’s a lovely, comfortable cottage in the most enchanting location. There were three adults, one child and a dog and there was plenty of room for us all to enjoy the accommodation, including sitting around the open fire in the evening. It’s not the first thing you’d think of, but the WiFi was useful for phone calls (and keeping the child quiet) in a location that’s pretty much cut off from a mobile signal."

"Although this cottage met expectations we found it to be alittle to noisy and rowdy, no fault of the cottage by any means. Dotty tearoom (next door) were having a party and the noise echoed through our cottage. Only fault was the bedroom with bunkbeds was very cold. Thanks for a lovely stay, we’ll be back very soon however not to this particular cottage."

"Stayed at the Safe Harbour Cottage for a romantic break away from reality. We weren't disappointed - SHC is a beautifully renovated retreat in a breathtaking hidden gem of a village. The Owner has spared no expense in fitting out the cottage with all the mod cons (even smart TV with broadband) and some lovely finishing touches, the open fire an large comfy sofa perfect. Ample size for at least 6 adults or suitable for family use. The rental was as smooth as it could be- very reasonably priced, again the owner puts enough effort and obviously cares that you enjoy the time spent in Staithes. Evenings in Staithes is a little quite at this time of year but it was perfect for us, Whitby town is just 10 min away. Will defo be returning for a longer stay in 2015."

"Lovely cozy, welcoming and well appointed cottage. Ideal for the beautiful old fishing village and quaint harbour. Comfortable beds and friendly atmosphere. Lovely food across the road at the Royal George - huge helpings and Theakstons Old Peculiar on tap. Heaven! Only 2 grumbles (neither of which the owners can do anything about):- (1) Shower is very cramped and would be no use for "larger" folk. (2) Seagulls set up a dreadful din on nearby roof-tops from about 3.30am onwards. Ugghh! If I lived locally I would need to consider measures to "move" them on!"

"We stayed at Safe Harbour cottage from 5th to 12th May 2017 as an opportunity for a "chill out" together in advance of Mums 77th birthday and we loved it! Myself, my Husband, my Mum & our large dog where very comfortable in this quaint cottage decorated with a beech hut feel and it had everything we needed. Other reviews had mentioned concerns about electrics/safety which was a worry, but we had no issues. The bathroom heater is simply on a safety timer that you press on for the desired time and the storage heaters just had advisory notes to warn that they get hot (Obviously) and not to cover - As an ex fire safety advisor I had no concerns and we were nice and cosy. The Super King Sized bed was a real treat and we loved the fact that the bathroom had separate shower and bath which was great for getting ready in a hurry! Mum slept like a log in the second double room, not only 'cos it was comfy but also because of all the fresh air & exercise and the great local pub food. The Village itself is wonderful, so very pretty and traditional and the locals where really friendly - everyone says good morning which is sweet and advises you where to go and see and there are a couple of sweet tea rooms and vintage shops etc and the welcome pack provided at the cottage is really helpful too. The nearest pub "The George" is literally 10 paces across the road (or 8 if you really fancy a pint) which was fatal as my Hubby loves his real ale and Mum & I really enjoyed the large portions of traditional pub grub. The Cod & Lobster just a wee stroll near at the Harbour was my fav' as I adored their seafood options presented to a very high standard. We had mixed weather during our stay but that did not take the shine of Staithes which looks beautiful in the glorious sunshine and dramatic in blustery weather - Loads of photos taken!!! So, we had a cosy day in on the Monday with a roaring fire, old movies and jigsaw puzzles - "Old School". We felt like we where staying at a friends house! It's so well located we had day trips out to Bridlington, Scarbourough, Whitby and the not to be missed delightful Robin Hoods Bay. The whole area is very hilly indeed and is wonderful for robust walks and despite awaiting a knee replacement Mum managed very well generally and just took it bit at a time - every pause for breath is a photo opportunity anyway! We were able to take good advantage of the free parking (permit provided) at the top of the hill and could just nip down in the car and collect her if she was struggling as there's 20 mins loading/parking just opposite - I mention this as people with mobility restrictions can be accommodated if planned around! Out of all of us though I think our dog Hector had the absolute best time - He walked so much that I think his legs are about an inch shorter. Staithes is Doggy Heaven - we saw everything from Jack Russells to Mastiffs and all got along famously. Everywhere is dog friendly with water bowls provided by almost all venues. I'm a sucker for the beech and it was my delight to run with "my Boy" at half past nine at night on the sand and thru the waves as the sun was setting - it just felt so free! We packed so much into the week we felt we'd been away for a fortnight - Would we go again? ABSOLUTELY!"

"What a fantastic gem of a cottage, the owners have really made sure that you have everything you need to make your stay as pleasant as possible, we found this cottage very homely.... the front door is only 6 steps away from the local pub and just a few mins walk to a very beautiful harbour that looks like it's off a postcard, we stayed for a week and it has to be said the big bed in the main bedroom is so comfy it's like sleeping in the clouds I've never had such a good nights sleep since I was 14 years old !! This cottage really is a credit to you and we will certainly be booking again many thanks xx"

"Had a week away here with the dog, and didn't want to leave. Beautiful cottage, full of character in keeping with the stunning village. The pictures do not do the cottage justice-we were pleasantly surprised with the amount of room! Cosy, warm and fully equipped, plus some nice modern touches such as a smart TV and great wifi. Ideally placed to make the most of Staithes-the picturesque bridge to Cowbar Nab one minute to the left, and the beach two mins to the right. Perfect base for trips to Whitby, Saltburn, Robin Hood's Bay etc, plus easy access to fantastic walking on the Cleveland Way. We will be back!"

"Stayed over the weekend and really enjoyed our stay. The property is a quaint cottage with loads of facilities inside it. One of the cleanest cottages I have stayed in for some time with everything you can think of needed inside it to make your stay comfortable. The Queen Size bed is amazing and other rooms equally nice but not as roomy. The living room has a fabulous open fire which makes you just want to stay in and enjoy. Close to pubs restaurants really handy but hill from hell so beware but close to beach so enjoy your stY"

"Beautiful Cottage, the comfiest bed I have ever slept on and an amazing location. I could not have asked for a better place to stay - we will definitely be returning! The village is so friendly and welcoming - our best break this year!"
Mrs Carolyn Guest, Barnsley, South Yorkshire
"The cottage was very comfortable, clean and warm. It is ideally situated for the beach and walking along the Cleveland way. The children (and dogs) loved the rock pools, catching crabs and finding fossils. The owner and the locals are very friendly and helpful with anything to do with the cottage or the village. We had a brilliant week and hope to return soon."
    Mr Rafal Przybysz, Bedford, Bedfordshire
"Lovely holiday spent in a lovely cottage. The location of the cottage close to the sea and beach was the thing our kids and us loved the most. The cottage itself made us feel like we were at home."

"Great dog friendly pubs with good food especially the Cod and Lobster which has a great choice of GF food."
    - Mr Thomas-peter, September 2018
"The dustbin (carefully cropped out of your photo) takes up most of the space - and who wants to sit by a dustbin anyway! The back patio is just some chairs on the public path by some more bins! The main room smelled fusty and damp when we got there. The only usable room downstairs gets steadily more gloomy and dark as you move towards the kitchen at the back. This is not helped by one of the kitchen lights flickering and another having a piece of kitchen roll taped over it. The equipment in the kitchen was inadequate - for example there is only 1 teaspoon. There is no freezer, except for a very small compartment in the fridge which is full of ice so cannot be used or even opened properly. There was even some tea in one of the kitchen cupboards several years out of date - an indication of when the place was last cleaned out or inspected. The under-stairs area is blocked up with an old gaming machine that has a failed PAT test sticker on it. There is another room downstairs which seems to be full of the owner's discarded things. Upstairs there is nowhere to put clothes. Both wardrobes are full of old linen and bedding - some dirty. When we cleared one, there were just 5 old broken coat hangers. There were some tiny chests of drawers, too small to be of any use. There was only one bedside light in the main bedroom. It was nearly impossible to walk round the bed in the main bedroom. The carpet in the smallest bedroom was very dirty. The bathroom has black mould and dirt in several places particularly the shower cubicle and the woodwork. There is sticky backed plastic over the tiles around the bath, which is starting to peel off. The plaster round the window reveal is flaking off. The pipes to the toilet had air trapped so that we had a terrible noise every time we flushed. There was a lot of noise from the adjoining property, which extends above the bedrooms in the cottage. The windows rattled with the slightest wind - one previous occupant had tried to jam a coin in to stop this. Towards the end of the holiday the wi-fi and the shower stopped working but by this time we didn't have enough patience or inclination to try to do anything about these. My expectations were guided by your advertisement which assured me that all properties are hand-picked and regularly inspected. It almost looked like the description and pictures had been created to deliberately mislead and overstate the property's facilities. By the end of the holiday we were glad to be leaving. Clearly this ruined our holiday."
    - Mr McDonough, December 2018
"Whilst some may have been we were disappointed to find that there was no fuel for the open fire despite the owner's manual in the property stating that there would be. Shower worked intermittently and kept going cold. Stained carpets and bedding, insufficient lighting in the lounge to read by, broken curtain rail in bedroom, storage heater in lounge not working, tear in sofa cushion, broken towel rack in bathroom, thick dust on fittings and generally tired and unloved decor. We left on Boxing Day morning. Our 9th stay in Staithes and the worst cottage we have been in. Photographic evidence available if required"
    Mrs Winifred Baldwin, Chorley, Lancashire
    "Very clean, well furnished cottage."
    Mrs Wright, Worksop,
"A very beautiful and well decorated Cottage. The candles, pictures, ornaments and cushions gave the Cottage a homely feeling and we felt very relaxed. Left the car at the top of the hill most days and explored the coastal routes by foot. After walking all day it was nice to come home to our cosy Cottage and the two pubs in the village serve excellent food."
