In a rural setting in Pinchinthorpe, this cottage is simply stunning; lovingly converted by the owners, this is the ideal base for families and friends wanting a break together in a delightful location. Enjoying stunning panoramic views over Highcliff and Guisborough, there are three spacious bedrooms, tastefully furnished with antique French furniture. The whole cottage boasts honey-coloured solid oak flooring and matching doors, plus your holiday home has double glazed and handmade sliding sash windows throughout. The elegant sitting room is light and airy, and has a baby grand piano for those who like to tickle the ivories. The large, open plan kitchen diner has a quality, handmade kitchen with Rangemaster cooker, woodburning stove, comfy chairs and tri-fold doors leading to the patio area and garden. To the front is a delightful south east-facing patio area, on which you can sit and take full advantage of the sun. Situated inside the North York Moors National Park, this location is brilliant for walking, riding or cycling, with countless footpaths and bridleways from the doorstep, and the Cleveland Way is less than a mile away across the fields. For those less active, the bustling cities of York and Durham are just an hour away and a short drive will take you to the lovely beaches scattered along the north east coastline. This really is a cottage not to be missed, in a beautiful area.

The village of Great Ayton lies on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, at the foot of the Cleveland Hills. Great Ayton is famous for being the boyhood home of Captain Cook, and is also mentioned in the Domesday Book. The village consists of a mixture of stone cottages and some new development housing. Great Ayton has two village greens, with a river running alongside, making it a popular picnic spot in the summer months. To the north of the village, the view is dominated by Roseberry Topping, a 330 metre hill. In the village are a good range of shops and inns, which, together with restaurants and cafes, cater well for holidaymakers. There is also the old school, now converted into the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum. Around the village are several interesting walks and Great Ayton makes a great base for walkers wishing to explore the stunning countryside around, especially in the summer months when the moors turn purple with blooming heather.

(And a real bonus to have a piano!) The owners were always discreet and always responsive to any question. It's true that the road leading up to the house is not the best but that should not put anybody off from choosing the house. Besides, there are plenty of excellent walks directly from the door including a walk into Guisborough.

Well equipped and a lovely welcome basket on arrival with lots of nice goodies in it. There were a couple of things from a health and safety perspective that would have made the experience even better though: The were a couple of elderly members in our group who commented that a hand rail on the wall of the staircase would have made coming down easier for them as there was nothing to hold on to. Also slip mats in the bathrooms for baths and showers. We bought some which we left for future visitors to use. The only other issue of note was the driveway up to the cottage which was full of potholes and bumps which, even though we were driving v. slowly the car grounded on several times during the week; whilst suitable for 4x4s less so for normal cars or those lower to the ground. We limited ourselves to only going out and back once a day and back before dark because of the condition of the drive. The roadway was very long and steep, poorly lit (no lighting) with no passing areas, we noticed other buildings were being renovated, if busier this could be an issue.

It is in a wonderful setting with great views all round. Plenty of walks from the door, Roseberry Topping just over 1 ml, local woodlands, Cook Monument, Cleveland Way. Enjoyed sitting out in the evening sun watching the swallows.
