About this property

Being just a stone’s throw from the Runswick Bay beach, this delightful cottage is arguably in the best position in the prettiest bay on the North Yorkshire Coast. Tastefully finished in a beach hut style design, this property is ideal for families who wish to enjoy a seaside location or adults who simply want to take in the scenery and maybe watch the sun go down while enjoying the pub or beach café just a few yards away. The open-plan living area has a cosy woodburning stove and window seat to look out across the bay. There’s a well-equipped kitchen and dining area perfect for a hearty breakfast. On the first floor, be welcomed by an en-suite double bedroom, bathroom and a rather quirky single bedroom where a space saving staircase leads up to the converted loft where you will discover another three single beds. There’s a sheltered enclosed terraced rear garden and a patio area out front which makes for the perfect people watching platform. You could simply stroll along the beach or perhaps join the Cleveland Way for a bracing walk. If you can tear yourself away from this idyllic setting, there are some fabulous places to explore such as the historic port of Whitby, or quaint fishing villages like Staithes or Robin Hoods Bay. There is much to do in the local area, whether it's visiting the famous Abbey, Staithes with its pretty shops, cafes and art gallery, or touring the dramatic North York Moors. Whenever you go, it’s just a lovely place to spend some quality time with the ones you love.

One of the gems of the East Coast is the lovely Runswick Bay. With its narrow cobbled streets and quaint cottages, this picturesque old fishing village nestles in a small bay just nine miles from Whitby. Backed by spectacular cliffs and moorland scenery, this is not a typical tourist spot; cars have restricted access to the village which makes it an ideal place to relax and unwind without the sights and sounds of the modern world. Reached via cobbled, twisting alleyways, visitors can enjoy the sandy beach - well known for fossil hunting - and various cliff-top walks including the Cleveland Way. Local amenities within Runswick Bay are plentiful and include three local inns, all serving food, and one tea-room. A village shop is provided by nearby Hinderwell.

The sleeping needs addressing riot ideal to get up to loft bedroom between bunk beds. Needs shower in Family bathroom 1 shower for 6 persons is not adequate we had to clean hair traps which were full in bathrooms. Water was leaking from fridge. Dishwasher should really be full with salt rinse aid again I cleaned the filter and filled up. Dishwasher was full on our arrival

It was clean and all of the expected facilities were working. There were a couple of things that whilst they didn’t affect our stay may be worth addressing. The bunk beds do impede the access to the top floor. Whilst this did not affect our ability to access, it was just a little inconvenient, it may prevent some from accessing. Also the top bunk is almost unusable due to the height of a beam over it. It would be better to just have a single bed in this space or a sofa bed that could be folded away when not in use. We ended up having our youngest child sleeping upstairs with us rather than in the top bunk, although they would effectively be in the same room regardless. Also it is a shame that there isn’t a shower in the main bathroom (we were aware of this before we booked) could a suitable shower be fixed to the bath taps?

Perfect size for us (a couple) but imagine it would be too small if at capacity (sleeps 7). Was pleasantly surprised at how clean, tidy and comfortable the cottage was after reading some previous reviews. So pleased we took the chance on the cottage. Would have loved to have booked to stay again but the 23/24 price increases have put this one out of our budget now which is a real shame. Fabulous little place.
