With beams, tongue and groove doors and traditional furnishings, it provides a characterful and welcoming cottage to come back to at the end of a rewarding day. Outside, a rectangular small courtyard is a lovely sun trap in the afternoon. There are excellent local amenities within a stone’s throw from this charming cottage, including a good butcher's, a local pub, a tea room and a village shop. Port Mulgrave beach is just a few minutes’ walk, with its fossils and rock pooling, whilst the picturesque fishing village of Runswick Bay is one mile away and offers a sandy cove, just perfect for building sand castles and paddling in the sea. Take a bracing cliff-top walk on the Cleveland Way with superb coastal views, or explore the nearby seaside town of Whitby, steeped in history with its narrow, cobbled streets, interesting shops and famous abbey. On the edge of the North York Moors, this inviting and homely cottage makes an ideal base for a memorable family holiday.

Hinderwell is a small but bustling rural village with shops and pubs close to the picturesque fishing villages of Staithes and Runswick Bay, whilst being just 9 miles from the charming harbour town of Whitby. Hinderwell is ideally located for exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside, ranging from the dramatic cliffs and smugglers’ coves of the coastline, to the deep secluded dales of the North York Moors National Park. Spotlessly clean, warm and well-equipped. The friendly owners live nearby. Hinderwell is well located for exploring nearby coastal villages and the moors. Two pubs, one seafood restaurant, a tea room, and a butcher’s shop are all in walking distance. And there’s a very good bus service to Whitby. Only one minor issue was that the shower wasn’t working during our stay. And the bath took quite a while to fill. But that wasn’t a major problem for us.

It was lovely to stay in the village of Hinderwell with Staithes, Runswick bay and Sandsends all in easy reach. The bus service to Whitby is regular every 30 minutes. There are several good pubs serving good value meals. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a retreat within easy reach of the coast. Maryanne was really welcoming, the wine and chocolate was a welcome treat. Thank you for a lovely stay Karen and family
