About this property

This charming mid-terrace cottage is quietly tucked away in the small village of Grosmont, home of the North York Moors Steam Railway.

Cosy and welcoming, it's the perfect spot to explore the stunning scenery of the surrounding countryside but be within a short drive to the popular seaside town of Whitby. Refurbished to a high standard, the rooms are bright and airy, with a mix of modern and traditional furnishings. The inviting sitting room has a warming wood burner to relax by on those cool winter evenings, with the galley-style kitchen leading just off from here. If you fancy taking yourself away from the group, a second snug room allows you to relax with a quiet book and a cup of tea. Lastly, the ground floor shower and utility room is a handy addition and will appeal to all. Upstairs are two pretty bedrooms with a seaside theme running through them and a spacious bathroom. Outside, the enclosed rear courtyard and the front garden are ideal for catching the sunshine or watching the sun go down with a rewarding glass of wine.

A short stroll brings you to the famous steam railway, which is a must for both young and old to take a trip through the beautiful heather clad moors to Pickering. There is a wonderful network of footpaths from the village, including the old Toll Road to Egton Bridge, local woods to enjoy the bluebells in season and the Esk Valley Walk that winds its way to Whitby. Grosmont is the last stop on the famous Coast to Coast walk before the last leg to Robin Hood’s Bay. There are good amenities in the village, including a local inn serving food, tea rooms, art gallery and a small shop selling a range a of food and house provisions. If you want to leave the car at home, the Esk Valley railway line takes you from Grosmont to Whitby in around 10 minutes. The area has much to offer, with the Danby Moors Centre a short drive and Goathland village, famed for it's appearance in the TV series 'Heartbeat'. With the magnificent Yorkshire coastline to discover, and delightful inland villages to visit, The Cottage provides a super base for an enjoyable holiday.

Grosmont sits at the junction of the River Esk and Murk Esk in the midst of Moors scenery. Grosmont itself lies in the centre of ‘Heartbeat Country’ and is famous for being the home of the North York Moors Steam Railway. The Railway has been preserved and run by enthusiasts since 1973 and today carries upwards of 300,000 passengers a year. The village has a general store, post office, book shop, cafes and a pub. It makes a great base for exploring the many pretty farming villages along the Esk Valley and the wider North York Moors National Park, as well as the small fishing villages along the North Yorkshire Coastline.
